  1. Used Long nets, Gate nets, Ditch nets and every other type of rabbiting net,...all my life... We all have our prefered methods,.but over five decades (and several thousand rabbits later) , I have come to the conclusion that it is favourite to use whatever method, that works best for you,...simple really..
  2. Was out weekend,.just schooling my wee cur puppy,...and teaching her the netting game.... Purse nets were the order of the day. I particularly enjoyed watching the youngster, standing back up behind a bury,.listening to, and feeling the bolt, rumbling under her feet, coming ever closer.... This early education towards the ferreting game, usually produces the style of lurcher that I need. Not all dogs take to this game,..hence the often lengthy period of allowing them, to learn their trade...Long Nets, Purse nets, Ditch nets,.whatever,..they all have their uses,...same as v
  3. Cracking pictures of the wee laddie,...
  4. Only run a Collie cur,.but Bull bloods are fabulous critters,... I realy like em....
  5. Huntaways... Fabulous working dogs fellah,..truly rough and tough and invaluable to the shepherding guys,... I've kin,.in both Australia and New Zealand, using herding dogs on a daily basis and they speak highly of the Huntaway..... The breed has been selectively bred over a long time, to literally seek out and find its quarry (sheep) and to encourage it,.by dint of a loud bark,.to come into line.....and when I say bark,..I do mean, BARK... This is what they do....
  6. Had some great fun with them old jukels,...good times...
  7. Goodonya Neal... I love the 'herding types',..either purebred, or as lurcher hybrids...
  8. Feck off you lot... The rule, back in the day, was really quite simply,.."No porno tash,....No pu**y"
  9. Interesting and varied comments,.on an extremely interesting and varied subject
  10. The DVD era is more for the modern luvvies.. Darling,..when I last trod the boards,..everything was still Betamax and VHS
  11. The benefit of the old style, ex army 'cammo' gear had ,..was that it was cheap.... I've worn all sorts over the years, and kneeled quietly up behind a bury, in the guise of a Jap Sniper, a Congo Mercenary and even a Navy Admiral..! Never helped me much though,...I still can't catch feck all..
  12. Over the years,.I have had clients offer me rabbits, in lue of payment for removing them,.."You can keep all the rabbits you catch,.and then you can sell them',.they say.... To which I invariably reply,.'No,.you can keep all the fecking rabbits (and trawl them around the shops/dealers),...I would prefer my wages, please'...!
  13. This is a swings and roundabouts kinda predicament,...albeit one with an often dangerous conclusion... Whist it is useful for a running dog to be capable of negotiating obsticles,.. in a safe and competent manner,...you gotta ask yourself the all important question,..."How fecking badly do you need that particular rabbit or hare "....
  14. Whatever you choose to wear for ferreting ,.it has to be 'cheap 'n cheerful',.cos its a down and dirty old game.. So,.I purchased,.at great expense,.a Genuine Dutch Army Surplus Helly Hanson Fleece. Warm as toast, at around £15.00 a pop from Ebay...
  15. Well done Ray,..this photography lark ain't so easy as folk think,...but it is always good fun...
  16. Sorry to hear of your loss,...I have been there myself,..a couple of times....
  17. Well locally,.. everywhere is covered in a six inch high, carpet of stinging nettles,..the poisonous fekers sure pack a punch and the young pups are prancing around like show ponies.. On the plus side,..most of the warrens are still fairly clear,.the grass and undergrowth is at its lowest ebb and everything is open for business.. Most of the hedgerows on the higher ground are fairly well stocked and if me and my ferreting partners, take a nice quiet approach to the site,..throw a few purse nets down and more importantly,..lay some stoppies in the right places,.. ...the job is still a good '
  18. Sensible advice Casso,...and as an aside I would simply add,..."Let a pup,.be a pup,..don't cook its brain"....
  19. Yeah,..I remember both of these characters,...seems a lifetime ago,...but then,.I suppose it was....
