Hi,.yeah I have been fortunate in going out hunting, with a few guys, that have a knack of being in the right place, at the right time.. I don't have much luck with my own efforts at photography ,....so, I rely on the generosity of others. Truth is, I have thousands of images on file,...hopefully I can use these interesting pictures,. in a future project All the best, Phil.

Phil that is a fantastic photo but don't take my question as an insult. But is that lurcher after busting through that net ? If it did, fair play, LOL. Hi Neil,...no probs with your question....and in answer to it,..no,.that particular lurcher has not run through the meshes,...in fact, she was well broken to the nets,..and did not touch rabbits once tangled,..no point is there.. The rabbit she has intercepted, has bounced,.. back off the net ( rabbits sometimes do this if they are givent too long to think about the job, see the trap and regard the long net as a barrier)....or, more

Regular USA Trapper's Bucket......

Hi Snakey,...we are field trialing canvas bags,.hopefully suitable for mole trappers,...at this very moment.. The bags are nice and comfortable to carry and are simply 'trappers bags' from the USA... We need to make certain modifications, to fit our UK requirements for mole trappers (as opposed to fur takers),..we need longer pockets sewed in,.for marker sticks, etc...but so far,.the bags are holding up ok. I do believe the Magnum Trap Company Limited are considering their options.... All the best, Phil.

Well,..a wee bit of money does come in handy for us old timers,.. Me and Outlaw Pete need certain necessities,..or we simply fade away... Life is nothing without a Jalfrezi....

Same as you Bosun,.love the place.. I was reared on a quiet wee smallholding,.. along the Welsh Marches,... I did not attend school, until I was quite an age,.hence my early lack of socialisation,..which upon reflection, really does explain a lot about me Obviously, as a hunter, I love the quiet solitude of the wild places, the Moors, Dales, Fells and Fenlands,..but my heart will always be in the high Southern Downland, with its dark deciduous woodlands. However,..I learn't many years ago, that there is far more to life than chasing rabbits and messing around with ferrets and lurch

This is a terrible thing for any hunting man to go through,... I've been there myself,..too many times,.and it definitely fecks a man up. Never be ashamed to show your feelings for a good working partner,..anyone who has walked the walk,.. will understand.. Some advice,..from an older guy,...take some time out,.get a warm Summer on your back, then,..make your move... Always let the pain subside before walking on,..you are in the prime of your life,..still plenty of time to start again... R.I.P ERN...- 113 replies

True,..although with the continual changes occurring in the pest control industry,..seemingly every few months,..there will be more and more lads walking down the traditional,.'whippet and flat cap' route.. I sold off, all my regular, bread and butter contracts,..years ago,...my partners in the commercial sector all said, 'you will fecking starve',.however,.as anyone who has walked out with me,..(or waddled in my case),..will surely attest,..I sure ain't been starving Obviously,..as I enter my twilight years,..I cannot take on large contracts to control rabbits over vast acreages,...phy

Rats In A Loft
Phil Lloyd replied to Heyford moles Pest Control's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Interesting comments from all concerned.. I've spent a long time, pursuing pests,..mostly animals,.but a few two legged animals as well,.. Facts are, when it comes to rats,.this Neophobia business is extremely varied and rarely definitive. I've worked on Game Farms, Pheasant Shoots,.Pig Farms and Factories,..Leisure Complexes, Bakeries, Supermarkets and Swimming Pools..Feck it, you name it,..I've laid poison amidst it,.. or trapped it,..and this massive variety of areas,.is the way to get the feel for this often awkward situation. I've sat and watched rats, willingly approach -

Mole Trapping Some Questions

I love that style of hunting/mouching,... Obviously,..such wee curs and mongrel types are not going to fill a van with a hundred conies,. or a pile of hares,..and if I was still keen to travel,...I would be looking to work with, a far more physically gifted critter,.but,..my standards are pretty darn low these days, and like most older guys,..I am entering my second childhood,..and genuinely enjoying myself in just the same manner as I did all those years ago.. Only this time around,..I take my time,.stand back and watch the hunt unfold,..as opposed to getting all steamed up over a poxy

Sure looks a mean machine..

Well,.I've netted and wired a lot of hares,..and shot them with the rifle, to sell on....so,..perhaps it would be hypocritical to disagree with the contents of that Shooting Show episode,.but I do.... I feel the presenter rather shot himself in the foot, and his remarks concerning the headless hare were a wee bit insensitive.. I've no doubt it died a quick death,..possibly far quicker than other methods,.but,..I would have cut that bit out,..considering the way things are... But, I am not a shooter, so I could well be wrong... Just my take on it... All the best, Phil.

Mole Trapping Some Questions
Phil Lloyd replied to James Cooksey's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Well,...I have to admit that I was a supporter of the 'Guild',..and to be honest,.I have met some real nice guys through it. However,..I earn my wages by catching moles and rabbits,...I cannot do anything else,..in short, I am unemployable..SO,..reluctantly I have had to leave the Guild,.and my reason for doing so,..is really quite simple ... These Mole Guilds/Societies,.whatever,...are keen to run monthly courses and train up more and more Mole Catchers. Nothing wrong in that,.we have all got to earn some gold doubloons,..that is a fact of life,..I do know that.. BUT,.no way can I supp -
Hi Brambles,..good to hear that you favour the collie lurcher types... Yes, you are correct in that it is often difficult to find a Stud dog that suits your requirements.. I only need a cur type of hunting dog, to assist me in finding occupied rabbit warrens, in amongst a large acreage of vacant burrows,..so in reality,...my requirements are possibly far less than your own.. That being said,.such a mutty wee critter, does save me a lot of time,..and in woodland,.obviously makes the ferreting job go much easier.. As for your own preference,..ie; Border/Beardie lurcher combos,.well,.the
