  1. ?Yeah, Ken's Deputy,..it is a real mystery..? Mind you,.. we have both seen the plethora of files, that show images of the miscellaneous, (seemingly mad creations), from various engineering buffs and mad scientists, that were offered up, after the banning of the Gin Trap.. More than a few of these strange concepts and ideas, failed to make the cut, but several stayed very close to the long spring look of the original 'Gin'.. I don't think many folk actually realise, just what went down during that critical period twixt the Gin,.. and the Fenn...?
  2. I would agree with your words.? Kids should be loved and protected....dodgy feckers should be beaten severely...? I remember on a recent carpet buying trip to Turkey,.. there was a beautiful fat baby boy, sitting with his parents. It was great to see him getting hugs and kisses from everyone on the plane...he was like the communal baby...? By complete contrast,.. I was trapping Grey Squirrels in a local school, and as I made my way up the stairs into the roof space of the building, a group of young lads were rushing madly down the stairs. They were cheeky wee feckers, and
  3. Whoever it is, that juke is certainly well 'up on its toes'...?
  4. The Mk 4 trap in tunnels will catch Grey Squirrels no problem,...but,.. these traps rarely kill them quickly..? When the operative visits his trapline early in the day, he will often find dead critters resting in the traps,...but in many cases, they took a while to die. If you set up a camera, or have the time to physically, wait and watch,.. you will frequently witness a bit of a struggle , until the Grey finally expires. Personally,.. if using this type of Spring Trap, I much prefer the Mk 6 version,..it just seems to have that wee bit more killing power. There are sever
  5. ? Personally, I think too much formal training,. too early on, can frequently inhibit the inherent, natural hunting ability, in a roustabout jukel. I follow the Keith Erlandson method of early schooling, whereby he used to commit virtual heresy amongst the Gundog fraternity, by allowing and encouraging his young tykes to hunt up, at an early age... Obviously, as our own Skycat has mentioned, this practice is frequently counter-productive for most folk,.. and I would not advise novice lurcher enthusiasts to follow my lead... Far better, to reign a young lurcher in and prevent it
  6. Some Bedlington's are reet tenacious wee feckers...?
  7. Les Robinson,.... a genuine hunting man?
  8. ? A tad on the manic side for me... Wild old terrain though?
  9. A wee bit of Beddy often goes a long way,. .I like them..?
  10. Yeah,, real shame,. I liked his comedy...?
  11. Some interesting thoughts? Obviously,.. we are all individuals when it comes to pricing for mole trapping work, so there will always be a massive difference in costing... Personally,.. I no longer have to take on big farms, as I have hundreds of private gardens,, small holdings, etc, on my books Facts are, I can never do all the work requested of me, so I invariably pass it on, to trusted operatives. Nice situation to be in, but, it has taken me a long old while to become.. financially, 'self sufficient'...? With that in mind,.. the best advice that I could ever give
  12. ?@Ken's Deputy "Mate, you can't put an entire Fallow stomach down the toilet....?... it won't flush,...trust me,.. I'm a qualified Plummer" Err,...I beg to differ....?
  13. We had an outside toilet when I first moved into my tiny Terraced house,.. that was in 1978,..we still have one ?
  14. I can well understand your preference for the stunning looking,. non-pedigree, Hard Blood style of whippet ,...however,.. these superlative , purpose bred racing machines, often harbour a slight problem, for the roustabout hunting man....?
  15. ? I suppose one's attitude towards freelancers, frequently depends upon which side of the fence you are standing? Where you have game to plunder you will inevitably encounter men who wish to take it for themselves,.. this is the way of things...However, there is a strange culture around today, whereby a lot of young guys believe that driving the land and taking game of the wealthy or even, just acting the part of a rural rebel is the correct mode of behaviour. To say that 'they know no better' is really simplifying the matter,.. because the facts are, the groups of lads that ventur
  16. Yeah, I sometimes cook up 'lights, lungs', etc when they are included in the Beef and Tripe mix, as these superfluous bits of offal can sometimes, go straight through a jukel,. but I would never feed cooked bones to a running dog.. Obviously,.. scores of family dogs get away with eating left over chop bones from the dinner plate,. but I would rather not risk that expensive trip to the Vets...Bones in any shape or form, can cause problems, but on the whole, the raw choice is frequently the safest method... However,.. its a personal choice so,.. 'each to their own'...? Stay safe ,
  17. ?@Bosun.. A whippet (a good 'un) is a great choice for a bit of rattin and roustabout rabbiting? I had a fair few during the 1970's... I like whippets... Best of luck with the search?
  18. ?In my opinion,...this is not an Australian Cattle Dog.....?
  19. Yeah, that makes kinda sense..? I've kept and bred all sorts of lurchers, and when you are working a jukel that ticks all the boxes( for the task in hand) it is often a puzzle where to go next? Personally, if I was genuinely happy with a particular type,. then I would go looking,.. for a similar type.. Breeding running dog composites is an exciting and intriguing business,.. I think I've finally got certain matters sussed,.. unfortunately its all come a tad too late... Enjoy your hunting lads and stay safe, regards, OldPhil.?
  20. The Wild rabbit is a natural born survivor,.... he's had to be ?
  21. Wow,.. that's the one for me..?
