  1. Please tell about more about this mod 4 times quieter for the same money at your local dealer!!
  2. ATB, they tend to shoot pretty well but weight is an issue for a tart like me, I have the 700 SPS Stainless in .308, took about 3" off the barrel and fitted the P8 Compact, weight and balance are a treat!! Bottom one here..
  3. I think we have done something similar to this on Anschutz a few weeks back...anyway, I'm sure they will be excellent and I'm sure they will sell a few. The BUT is, I am content with the hunting tools I have which can probably all shoot better than I can already, so personally these have no interest for me. ATB!!
  4. Did I misss something, what makes you think it is illegal?? 12g AAA shot or slug IS legal in England and Wales and as far as I know the rest of the UK as well!!
  5. Its a personal thing ...simple as, some like heavy some like light...personally I see no point in carrying around a heavy HMR all day!
  6. This seems to be getting a bit involved, lets go back to basics.. If you have a requirement or potential requirement which you feel you can justify, then apply for .22lr .17HMR Hornet .223 .243 Discuss and debate by all means but it costs you nothing more to apply for the lot. Also gives you a chance to chat with your FEO and seek his advice...always makes him feel important!!
  7. Where do you find this info???? ....and that ain't quick, I can throw a ball faster than that for the dog to chase
  8. There is no doubt that a number of .243 rounds don't make it to 1700ft lb, your barrel length also has something to answer for here as well. People will tend to use 90-100g for deer (100g minimum Scotland) and the lighter stuff, commonly ballistic tips for fox etc.
  9. I'm struggling with this!! Just what is the issue here, a semi is a perfectly excellent all rounder (as is a O/U) I often use mine for clay/skeet/DTL etc, etc as well as field...you don't "have" to put 2 in the mag!! To be honest the only issue I see anywhere is TRADITION/ETIQUETTE, and I am not having a go at tradition!
  10. It's not popular anymore!!! I am convinced this is more to do with marketing (other calibres) than technology. The Hornet has a lot going for it and rifles can be found at "reasonable" prices. Ammo is not always easy to find so Home Brews can be a good idea. Noise and power wise it sits well between my WMR and .223, and the idea keeps coming into my head to look at one, but at the moment I seem to be coping without...but...Never say never!!
  11. I think I'm getting the general idea which may have some merit, although what area of specialty your solicitor has will be interesting. Nevertheless, any toothless and inaccurate letter from a solicitor hardly seems the appropriate approach for success...more like immediate refusal!
  12. Where do you get that plutonium enriched ammo from, I need some of that...that whole wound cavity is positively glowing....
  13. It just isn't popular, and never was! As has already been said, not your everyday calibre, either by need or availability. 22-250 is in the area, and some may say better, not sure what you are after, but I struggle to see either will have all that much use in fox control in your normal everyday urban environment!!
  14. I think I must be missing something, but if you just want to have a play with something else for the deer then it's pretty obvious you need to try a .243....you'll probably get rid of the .270 after that as well!
  15. I didn't quite follow that, but if you are getting them into a trap in a day or two then my compliments. Yes, there is always the odd one that walks straight in but most are a pain the backside to get in the traps...baiting and shooting in urban environments usually works best for me...such is life.
  16. This is a debate with no answer. If you are a farmer, whatever, with a fox issue which costs you, the simple answer is get the ******** and I don't care about milky/young anything. No shooter has any desire to cause cruelty! But we go back to Vermin Control and "Sport", the debate will rage on!!
  17. This debate still rages Jamie, not necessarily so any more, my last wasn't proofed and I sold it direct to a RFD. The law is contentious and it largely comes down to what RFD will accept!
  18. totaly agree whats the point of killing next seasons sport. What is sport to one man is Vermin control and a serious battle to many!! ATB!!
  19. I think it has all been said above, you can never say never, but it is ridiculously early for cubs! A bit warmer on the whole and things happen a bit earlier in Devon & Cornwall usually!! Don't expect to see any round these parts for a while yet! ATB!!
  20. always clean my c/f's but put a fowling round through before I go start my next shooting as a clean barrel does affect point of impact.cleaning does prolong barrel life. I was once under the mistaken impression that a cleaned bore (C/F) needed a fouling shot to bring the group back. Now I disagree with that statement. I shoot 6.5, a 17 Rem and two 22.250s and can honestly say after cleaning, the second bullet goes virtually in the same hole as the first - reason? Perfecting one's cleaning regime. To the bore snake boys - dont bother reading any further as your accuracy is going to b
  21. Mine has most definately settled on these as well 17g V-Max, the Remington were **** in my new rifle but I have returned to them with a handful, as I have with the 20g HP CCI which were also **** and they seem to work pretty well now, I wish I knew why the 20g CCI fly higher than the 17g at 100yards though!! . Seems that now my barrel has seen a few thousand rounds it is happy with most, but for some strange reason the Hornady still seem to edge it.... A lot of shooting is in the head remember (especially when you find the right ammo ) At a guess, heavier bullet = longer bulle
  22. Still an area of great debate and largely down to the RFD you sell it to these days!!
  23. Somewhat neither here or there, but if it is a new American then I think it is likely to be about a 22" Barrel!! 16 will be much more manageable!
  24. Anything you hit in the right place at the right distance with the right ammo!! The answer is the same if you are talking Fireball etc or HMR!!
  25. Hornady V max in red or blue tipped Les Mine has most definately settled on these as well 17g V-Max, the Remington were **** in my new rifle but I have returned to them with a handful, as I have with the 20g HP CCI which were also **** and they seem to work pretty well now, I wish I knew why the 20g CCI fly higher than the 17g at 100yards though!! .
