  1. Ok, I have just weighed it on a set of Salter 1036 WHSSDR 3309 Electronic scales, and it came back with 590g every time!
  2. But you still have that right at law. You still have to show the police that you have a right to a SGC; for instance you have to show that you are not a prohibited person, are not a danger to public safety or the peace, haven't got problems with drugs or alcohol, etc. You have to show all these things for an FAC but you just need to show one more thing along with it - "good reason" in law. Essentially, the police have to show exactly the same thing to refuse an FAC application as they do a SGC application - it's just that you have to state your reason up front. You cannot start off fro
  3. I'd say a Go Kart will beat a Formula 1 car round a Go Kart track every time...so just what is the best car????? Edit A bit more info on what you want to do with it would help, heavy/light/short/long barrel, small game or varmint, even target, etc, etc
  4. Best I could do quickly, I don't have a camera, these are with the phone... My T3 Lite .223 Predator 8 Compact My T3 Hunter .243 Predator 8 Compact My 700SPS .308 Predator 8 Compact The tube you can see just below the T3 Lite at the top is the sleeve from a Full length P8 and fits about where it would, the baffle stack at the front is identical, so this shows how much longer (and heavier) the mod is in full length version!! Edit....Balance wise it took me about 2 years to sort the T3 Lite, that's what led me to the Compact P8 to start with, the T3 Hunter is straight out of the
  5. Weight wise get the COMPACT version, saves about 170g on the normal version, same baffle set, same diameter, just shorter. You will not notice any difference in sound reduction over the full length version up to and including .308, at least I don't, I started with the Full length and converted my first to the Compact, I then bought 2 more Compacts. Please note, I do not suggest these are the best sound reduction mods out there, but they are not at all bad and I rate them as perfectly adequate for my needs, they are also "lightish" compared to some and not expensive compared to some! O
  6. i have the deben lamp and a dimmer is £40! Just spoke to maplins, and am on me way to get something from them sorted. They cant help. Looks like ill be trying full power with red filter tonight then! I don't know what the bunnies eyes can see, but I have used all the filters over the years and personally I think red only works because it dims the light so much, after years of using one and struggling to see the quarry at any distance with a red filter I lost mine and had to rely on the "White" light and a dimmer switch, never looked back and never bothered replacing the red f
  7. There always seems confusion over the 50 foot rule...this is it...... 161 2. If a person without lawful authority or excuse; (a) lights any fire on or over a highway which consists of or comprises a carriageway; or ( discharges any firearm or firework within 50 feet of the centre of such a highway, and in consequence a user of the highway is injured, interrupted or endangered, that person is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale. Highways Act 1980 section 161 (2) So it is only a problem if there is a problem!! If you use
  8. I suspect these can help but I'm sure there are others... http://www.rhinochokes.com/choke_tubes.htm
  9. Check out "Firearm Certificate" pinned at the top of this forum!!
  10. 5's or heavier, and keep the choke tight, but prefer a rifle anyway!! Next to none in my county so I have to travel for these!
  11. i wouldnt have thought this was the case otherwise they would not be able to legally sell them. There is NO British Standard for sound moderators that I am aware of, they potentially get a Proof, and that's it!!
  12. My T3 Lite .223 has Predator 8 Compact My T3 Hunter .243 has Predator 8 Compact My 700SPS .308 has Predator 8 Compact So, I sort of think think the Predator 8 Compact offers a package I can live with!! Lots out there though so you will no doubt get a mixture of views, and it usually stands to reason that most people think what they have got is the best!!!
  13. It's a very wide question, they are more trouble than a bolt, less accurate, likely to eat more ammo, harder to clean and probably a few other minus points. But it's all relative, look after it, keep it clean and find the right ammo and it will probably perform perfectly adequately. And if it starts playing up or you want to custom it a bit, there are a vast number of aftermarket parts available for it!!
  14. I sort of agree but it's not a case of what you have a right to, but what you require. If you have a genuine reason to own a particular calibre and amount of ammunition you will have no problems. If you just fancy a .223 or whatever because it is cool and you want 3000 rounds for the sake of it (slight poetic license here) then you will have to justify yourself. Oh, and I would suggest that a .308 is more dangerous than an air rifle, back stop or not I agree with the above You do not have the rightto a Firearms Certificate, you have to provide a Good Reason to acquire it an
  15. Looks a good size with a fair old winter coat on him as well!
  16. If he has the land and the need then he should be ok, but FEO's and the regions often want to flex their muscles these days so who knows. But apply for sure and take it from there!!
  17. will defo let you knwo mate...if my memory serves me right you had one but didn't like the balance? Still have the T3 Lite Stainless in .223, about 3 years old now, spent about the first 2 years trying to get it balanced (it always shot well but the balance was terrible)... sorted now and the balance is the best of all my centrefires, and it shoots cheap ammo well and home brews brilliantly.
  18. To be honest I'm not a fan of the Blazers and don't spend much time looking at them. I see this more as a personal preference type of thing rather than a technological leap into the future! Horses for course and personal decision...but with the usual Blaser price tags I expect!! Not for me..but each to their own!!
  19. Always worth a try, the worst they can say is no, I tend to think some regions are a tad easier though, after all there are more sheep in Devon/Cornwall than people The Met is slightly different, although to be fair I rate their FEO's to be the best of a bad bunch from my experience, but still limited shooting land in the city!! I will be interested to hear how you get on with the 6.5 ATB!!!
  20. It may not be confusing if you look at 1 region in isolation, as long as they stay consistant, but many regions class fox as VERMIN, others don't! Some will allow .22lr etc for fox, others will not, and the new wording reads along the lines of "Ground Game and Vermin and All other Lawful quarry"...sort that one out in relation to Fox!! It is ridiculously confusing, I have a pal in a region which flatly refuses to allow any rimfire for fox, but mine is conditioned, so I can legally visit my man on his land and shoot fox with MY rimfire, but he can't with his...confusing rubbish or what???
  21. And if it was not confusing enough already..the new wording agreed by ACPO to simplify and bring uniformity accross the regions.... ....and all other lawfull quarry .....has done nothing but add yet further confusion!!
  22. I'm a little confused as to why you are confused!! There is an Act of Parliament and Amendments (LAW) which lays down the EXACT detail for deer control! There is NO such Act relating to fox, there is Home Office Guidelines (which are simply guidelines) and there is each individual Police regions interpretation of these guidelines! If your force will not condition fox on your FAC for rimfire then you cannot legally shoot it! That does not make it illegal to shoot fox with a rimfire, it is only illegal in your region for the simple reason you are in breach of your conditions!! T
  23. hmm I hadn't though about that, it stands to reason though, as there will be fewer elements in a fixed scope than a variable scope, DB True on the whole, but don't let that be the decider, after all, it is only going to make a few minutes difference at dawn and dusk, there are a lot more hours in the day! The difference with modern optics is VERY small and personally vastly outweighed in my view by the versatility of variable mag!
  24. Frankly I don't see anything wrong with that budget, yes, good optics are worth it in the long term but there are PLENTY of good optics to be had around £500, and £1000 on a gun will give a very good choice. As others have said, are you considering the likes of a moderator, bipod etc etc, worth considering!!! My only "personal" suggestion would be ..DON'T get a heavy rifle if you intend trekking around far with it.
