The 700 is an ordinary everyday rifle, some of the models being slightly better and some slightly worse. It does what it says on the box..usually!! 7/10

The Latest models (for many years now) have a 12v 50w xenon lamp. I understand some older versions had a sealed lamp fitted, can't help with that one sorry, try Deben direct!!

They Should me matched, and age/wear is also a consideration. But in this day of mass production and computer engineering, you will probably find you will be ok. If it a an Escort then no problem at all, none of their barrels fit the action to start with so you will have a job making it worse!

The Tikka T3 is available in 1-8 and 1-12, mine is the 1-8. It handles everything from 40-75g well, I don't know why but it does. Tried a selection about a year or so back at Bisley 200 yard Short Siberia. The groups were all pretty tight and all in a nice straight line up and down. I was very happy, but it does seem that all my centrefires shoot pretty well, even when you feed them the cheap stuff!!

There should not be a problem anyway, but if you already have mods on a lower and higher calibre I don't see any issues at all!!

Cleaning barrels with phosphor bronze brushes
Deker replied to kieran222's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
If I remember correctly the manual for my T3 Lite Stainless .223 actually sats DON'T use the brush. Interesting situation as you would think the brush is very mild compared to a bullet. Anyway, one reason is because the rifling (on mine anyway) is very fine, so care needs to be taken cleaning. I do my best to deal with the situation with patches but I most certainly do put the brush down it as well when I feel it is required!! -
Have you got a mod on the .22rf and .223???? What reason did you state for that??

Shotgun Cartridges for Foxes- Cartridges Patterned
Deker replied to danebrewer10's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
The trade off is that they do not hit anywhere near as hard, still should do the job though. I seldom go specifically looking for the fox with the shotgun but if I do I use BB generally. ATB!! -
Shotgun Cartridges for Foxes- Cartridges Patterned

Good stuff, always interesting to see these sort of tests. I have played with this sort of stuff a long while back and it has always amazed me the extra energy in the larger pellets. I did this with 9's at about 10m a few years back and they hardly scratched the surface, but there were an awful lot of them.....the SG I then followed it up with destroyed the board...a 40mm laminated chipboard breakfast bar! Shotgun for not very strong lady!!!

Indeed ...but there does seem a sort of inclination to move to 12g in the first post, and 12 offers a lot more in a number of areas than 20...and Money is certainly one possible issue! -
This is where an old boy like me starts getting confused with terminology.....it's passed for... "Short range occasional fox", but they don't say fox on the FAC...what do they say short range occassional about then and how do they define it?? Lol, Yes they in talking say that both Rimmies are ok for "Short range occasional fox" they obviously don't state that on anything it just a verbal agreement between friends I've had a chat with my FEO about .22CF being up for Roe in Scotland but not in England...he agrees it's stupid and they are perfectly capable in England as well,

Mixed results can be had during inclement weather depending on the specific circumstances. But taking everything into account I do my best to stay clear of the rains and strong winds. Snow, frost, mist/fog (especially lamping) and very hot or dry weather also have issues. Not often we get the perfect day in this country, so most days tend to be a compromise!

Shotgun for not very strong lady!!!
Deker replied to ruthi's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I haven't seen her for a couple of years, has she piled on the pounds a bit?? When I first met her just after the Commenwealth in 2002 she was a typical 15 years old girl, who had obviously been using a 12g shotgun for the odd year or two, so size isn't really and issue! My lad let go his first 12g at age 10 I seem to recall and went on to love the tool, just examples but as others have said, fit, stance, cartridges and mindset are really the issue, not "I'm very small" -
They are not all bad, my first guy was in the job 20+ years and looked after my Dad and then me as well. Around 10 years back now he left, and I have had to deal with a complete ****** ever since, who I still have to keep straightening out about Firearms Law

NO ...Please lets not start the old FOX/VERMIN business again....how does any other lawful quarry sound??
-
So what is that all about.... does it actually say that or your FAC, the Fox bit is bad enough, and apparently totally undefined, but what is all this Malarkey about close range Rabbit...!! Yours The Confused Old Boy

The green goes out when it is charged, the red stays on all the time it is working I still use heavy chunks of battery, a couple of pals are toying with the idea of these new light weight things but nobody I know actually has any yet, so no first hand experience to make any comment from yet!

You are looking at this in a much to simplistic way, it is not necessarily a matter of what calibre is right for what animal, circumstances and situation are very important as well, (many calibres can be right)...and your police region of course
-
OK, it has got to be me then, is this the first time you have charged it in 20 years!!!!?????? What has happened to the lights previously and how long did it take to charge then?? Have you never noticed both bulbs going on, one slowly fading and just leaving one on when it is meant to be charged...NOT IN 20 Years of charging

The Hornet and the .22WMR are two calibres that just don't get most people too excited. Simple fact is, the reality is dawning and people are slowly moving back to them, as they most certainly do have a place. If you can reload, the Hornet really does seem to be a winner for many!!

Any shotgun will be a lot quieter to start with if you use sub sonic ammo, that could be a first step to see if that is quiet enough!!
-
There must be some but you are not going to be bothered by it, frankly I don't recall any, so very light!!

I'm a little confused about your references to 20 and going up to 20 in the original post, so I'll just charge along anyway..... Always tricky this one and plenty of lighter guns around, the 20g in particular being commonly referred to as a ladies gun. Don't necessarily let all this malarkey get you down, there are plenty of options of 12g as well and light or low recoil cartridges. Charlotte Kerwood - Shotgun - Charlotte went to the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester aged 15, where she won gold in the double trap, and has done rather well in a couple of Olympics since!! Interesting bit of a rambling opening question.... This goes round and round, my .22lr, HMR and WMR are all conditioned for fox, as well as all my centrefires. ..and in the right conditions a .22lr with a 40g Sub with a BIG HP can be an excellent fox round. I run into more situations than many I suspect, hence why I tend to get what I need from the Police!
