  1. I've not seriously looked at these for years, but I seem to recall having one a long time ago which was perfectly adequate, but overpriced at the time, and VERY heavy, that is perhaps a bit of ancient history which may or may not be relevant today!!
  2. Ideally your man, but anyone senior in the firearms department should be able to help!
  3. I'd say that exerience will bring the right tools for the job! It's a big step from planing to execution, and often a big surprise to many that their dream gun/calibre doesn't always deliver in the way they expected! What "may" look good on paper can often come up short when the real field tests start! ATB!!
  4. I have to say I think there is too much if, what, when, etc, above for anyone to give you an accurate response. If you have the land and need, and experience these days it seems, then you shouldn't have a problem... I rather think with all the variations here the responses could be all over the place, may I suggest the best course of action is to simply ring your FEO or Firearms region and have a chat. Most are quite human and helpful, and at the end of the day what they say is likely to be a lot more relevant than what anyone here may say. ....and don't take this the wrong way..i
  5. I'm rather thinking that in the few replies so far different stories are emerging, so I suggest the best course of action is to ring your region and simply ask them what they want you to do.
  6. Well, I'd have been waiting a long time with an invalid certificate, they have never inspected my cabinet since I moved, or through several variations and renewals!!
  7. I have the T3 Hunter in .243, and the T3 Lite Stainless in .223. The .243 is the latest version with the factory shortened and threaded barrel. With innexpensive 90g SP PRVI it can deal an inch no problem, Mr L made me some home brews a few months back and it was a TIGHT cloverleaf!!
  8. 12g O/U 28 or 30" barrels, Multi Choke, single trigger, Field/Game gun, and preferably one that fits you. It's easy to say but harder to do, and I am convinced that very few people use a gun that fits them properly. Worth a look here... http://www.guntrader.co.uk/GunsForSale/
  9. Take this up with BASC. You are entitled by law to a sensible firearm for the job. For fox shooting, the HO guidelines recommend a centrefire. You have proven good reason and have sufficient land - since each case must, by law, be judged on its own merit, you should be granted a centrefire. Yep, I would tend to agree, but be careful how you put your case, if you tell them you keep knocking down the foxes easy with the HMR.....at about 100yds have dropped dead every one i shot ...... then you may have a problem justifying anything bigger!
  10. Centrefires are very loud unmoderated and in many ways a lot worse with a muzzle break. Moderators definately have their uses, but nothing makes a HV Centrefire quiet!
  11. I would have to suggest that I would be looking around the Hawke range(and similar)for scopes for this application, not S&B, but we all make our choices. As I have also said, you can seldom spend too much on glass, but.....
  12. I find this sort of post rather difficult. Personal view of course. You can seldom spend too much on glass but I have to ask the question, what really is the benefit in normal daily use spending this sort of money or putting this sort of quality on a rifle for air rifle ranges? 8x is too much as well in my book, but magnification is rediculously personal! ATB!
  13. How are the Wild Boar your part of the world???
  14. yeh they are fine use them all time no probs I don't have one but I am confident they handle 2.5" and 3" carts. Not sure quite how much sub sonic ammo is available for them but I know Eley do a 3" sub sonic load!
  15. ....up to near the £500 mark I hear for some...don't forget potential fitting costs as well. The best will be the one everyone has fitted on their own rifle I like the Predator 8 Compact for a whole load of reasons, others will favour whatever, as for "is it the best?"..it offers a package I can live with at the moment so I guess it is for ME! http://www.wildcatrifles.co.uk/
  16. The 700 is an ordinary everyday rifle, some of the models being slightly better and some slightly worse. It does what it says on the box..usually!! 7/10
  17. The Latest models (for many years now) have a 12v 50w xenon lamp. I understand some older versions had a sealed lamp fitted, can't help with that one sorry, try Deben direct!!
  18. They Should me matched, and age/wear is also a consideration. But in this day of mass production and computer engineering, you will probably find you will be ok. If it a an Escort then no problem at all, none of their barrels fit the action to start with so you will have a job making it worse!
  19. The Tikka T3 is available in 1-8 and 1-12, mine is the 1-8. It handles everything from 40-75g well, I don't know why but it does. Tried a selection about a year or so back at Bisley 200 yard Short Siberia. The groups were all pretty tight and all in a nice straight line up and down. I was very happy, but it does seem that all my centrefires shoot pretty well, even when you feed them the cheap stuff!!
  20. There should not be a problem anyway, but if you already have mods on a lower and higher calibre I don't see any issues at all!!
  21. If I remember correctly the manual for my T3 Lite Stainless .223 actually sats DON'T use the brush. Interesting situation as you would think the brush is very mild compared to a bullet. Anyway, one reason is because the rifling (on mine anyway) is very fine, so care needs to be taken cleaning. I do my best to deal with the situation with patches but I most certainly do put the brush down it as well when I feel it is required!!
  22. Have you got a mod on the .22rf and .223???? What reason did you state for that??
  23. The trade off is that they do not hit anywhere near as hard, still should do the job though. I seldom go specifically looking for the fox with the shotgun but if I do I use BB generally. ATB!!
  24. Good stuff, always interesting to see these sort of tests. I have played with this sort of stuff a long while back and it has always amazed me the extra energy in the larger pellets. I did this with 9's at about 10m a few years back and they hardly scratched the surface, but there were an awful lot of them.....the SG I then followed it up with destroyed the board...a 40mm laminated chipboard breakfast bar! ATB!!
  25. Indeed ...but there does seem a sort of inclination to move to 12g in the first post, and 12 offers a lot more in a number of areas than 20...and Money is certainly one possible issue!
