  1. National Rifle Association Prohibition Notice MONTANA 1999 RIFLES IN STAINLESS STEEL In October 2009 there was an incident at Bisley when a Montana 1999 action made in stainless steel suffered a breech explosion and catastrophic failure of the front receiver ring. Fortunately, nobody was seriously hurt. The NRA has carried out a technical investigation on the rifle, including obtaining a metallurgical analysis. As a consequence of this incident and pending full consideration of the information generated by the NRA's investigation, *the use of stainless steel Mont
  2. you done want metric mate, you want imperial 3/32 or 7/64 will do it buddy. My money would be on 7/64 ...are they BSA mounts by any chance???
  3. About the only NEW stock HMR I have been able to find under £10 for months is the Hornady blue tips. Some RFD may have had OLD stock ammo available "cheap" but HMR has been £12-£15 a box retail for some time!! If anyone has access to stock less than £10 a box now I suggest you buy as much as you can quickly!!!
  4. My guns are about evenly split, I like the wood, but I do like some of the synthetic stocks too! Atmospherically wise synthetic is easier, but wood is easier to repair if you put a big scratch into it!! Comes down to personal choice really and the depth of your pocket, the wood "tends" to be slightly more, but plenty of synthetics are not cheap! My CZ .22lr and HMR are both Synthetic, my CZ WMR is wood, if I'm honest I think I would have got synthetic for the WMR as well, but it is not available, but now I have the wood I'm very happy
  5. Many semis struggle with light or low recoil carts, the Hatsans primary problem is cartridge LENGTH, use longer and try!!
  6. Did I miss something, what are you concerned about??? It is true to say that rimfires and fox are not best liked in some regions, but this debate has raged forever, all my rimfires are conditioned for fox!!
  7. Nothing is simple is it...I may be wrong, but we go back to civil and criminal, I think By laws are basically rules requiring a private prosecution, Not Statute. Good idea to have a word with BASC, whoever, to get their slant on it.. ATB!!
  8. For General Field work I favour 5, around the 30 mark, will bring down just about anything. General Clay work 7.5 or 8 usually 28, Skeet 9, 21/24 if you can find them. I have just about every size going up to and including SG, but no need to rush out and buy loads, time will tell and you'll soon get an idea!!
  9. It may well seem sad to many, but depending how far you want to get into this malarkey Fidgety is right...this is fascinating stuff, and will cause many surprises if you can find the time to read it..... Available from HMSO, about £16-£18 I think, or you can down load/print on line (may I suggest you try and find a quiet time at work).......I never said that!!!!!......Over 200 pages last time I looked!!
  10. Synchronised posting! Anyone want to hazard a wild guess at which knowledgeable forum member sorted me out on the post on another forum when this came up. Deker is a legend, trust what he says! You are a Gentleman
  11. I have a couple of Tikkas and a Remington, if I had the cash to spare I suspect I may have bought Sako, no doubt at all in my mind they are the better make, HOWEVER, all my guns are probably capable of shooting better than me, so its simply a matter of why would I want to spend the extra?? Both firms are owned by Beretta, and SAKO and Tikka share more than a little technology and production space in Finland!!
  12. THE RULES!!!! Probably a bit too much information here, also covers Rifles, but 1968 Firearms Act and Home Office Firearms Law Guidance to the Police, bit of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 as well!! If in any doubt..COPY/EDIT and carry with you!! ATB!! EXEMPTIONS FROM THE REQUIREMENT TO HOLD A CERTIFICATE 1968 Firearms Act Shot guns 6.14 Section 11(5) of the 1968 Act allows an individual, without holding a shot gun certificate, to borrow a shot gun from the occupier of private premises and use it on those premises in the occupier’s presence

    big pig

I saw a program on discovery about it a while back, 'Hogzilla' they were calling it! I thought that was the one a few years before......whatever, I remain skeptical!!
  14. OK, I know little or nothing about the gun or scope, but looks like a cross betwewen some of the old Parker Hale and Remingtons! Whats the eye relief on that scope, looks to be mounted a long way back!! In the weeks to come a bit of a longer term report would be interesting... Cheers!!
  15. Being serious for a moment, most FEO are ok, there are a few plonkers who will take great delight in trying to trip you up or worse, the best advice is......Be yourself, and don't waffle, if they ask something and you don't know, tell them, far better that than balls it up, they do not expect you to know everything!! ATB!!
  16. These are different guns and do different things so you have to ask what do I want?? The .22lr can be very quiet with subs and a moderator and is an excellent rabbit gun, in the right hands perhaps up to 100 yards, although most seem to zero around 50 or 60 yards. Ammo is in general terms approx 1/4-1/3 the price of HMR. High Velocity ammo tends to spray around and be less accurate than sub sonic ammo primarily because the twist rate of the vast majority of .22lr of 1-16 is better suited for sub sonic ammo! HMR is another excellent rabbit calibre, particularly the 17g Ballistic tips
  17. Like the man said, for a Co2 job there are plenty about for £75 or less that will do a perfectly acceptable job....consider these "own" brand optics as well... http://www.jsramsbottom.com/categorylist/riflescopes-jsr-optics/
  18. The interview is the easy bit, just get the cream cakes and coffee ready, show him your finest collection of Malts and insist he samples a few, impress him with your collection of nunchucks, stars and knives, World War II posters of your hero Adolf and tell him you can get him a deal on BNP membership as you know all the top people!! Problem solved! PS. Make sure he knows that 6 month spell you spent in the special care ward is over now and you have no further recurrence since your release a couple of weeks ago!
  19. Noise wise, you will still pick out the 22-250 easily from the 3 of them, even with a mod! Factory Ammo choice, availability and price, the .223 wins easily! The 22-250 is the flattest shooting, hits the hardest and pushes out the range a bit further! It's a matter of looking at your land/shooting/quarry and deciding what best suits! Certainly 200-250 yards is very possible with the .223, I have taken fox and deer with mine at these distances without problem, but most of my fox and deer are MUCH closer anyway.... ......so it's simply a matter of what you want to do with it!
  20. Well, there you go, Never clean your barrel, clean it when you need it, clean it regularly, take the mod off, leave it on, change the scope mounts, clean the bolt and try every .22 ammo available, get it checked professionally, did I miss anything??? Well, conflicting and confusing advice by the bucket load!! CZ very seldon cause a problm, so lets hope it is something simple at the end of the day. ATB!!
  21. dont listen to him. taking him out today with my .223 i know he want one because he just added it onto his ticket I think its all personal preference at the end of the day i was told .223 is brilliant round as its a 5.56 nato and there is a fantastic array of ammo available, with it being nato the bullets are made as small as possible and your chamber is made as big as possible this is to allow for grit and dirt for the lads on the front line so to make it a serious piece of weaponry money can be spent making these tolerances smaller and improving your rife, but at the end of the day if you
  22. This has been done to death but lets have a quick look at SPECIFICALLY what you asked, the 22-250 hits hardest but is also the noisiest and the most expensive ammo! 222 is the quietest (just less than .223) and the hardest to find ammo for. 223 sits in the middle with a vast range of easy to find ammo, generally as sensibly priced as they get, also some VERY cheap factory rounds if you look in the right place. Hit a fox in the right place with ANY of them and you have a dead fox, so what is the best for fox???
  23. Interesting..and even more so if you get an answer...but I suspect the legal position will remain unchanged, Westminster make the law, British Waterways make rules!! Civil and Criminal!! But very interested to hear their response!!
