  1. Looks a good size with a fair old winter coat on him as well!
  2. If he has the land and the need then he should be ok, but FEO's and the regions often want to flex their muscles these days so who knows. But apply for sure and take it from there!!
  3. will defo let you knwo mate...if my memory serves me right you had one but didn't like the balance? Still have the T3 Lite Stainless in .223, about 3 years old now, spent about the first 2 years trying to get it balanced (it always shot well but the balance was terrible)... sorted now and the balance is the best of all my centrefires, and it shoots cheap ammo well and home brews brilliantly.
  4. To be honest I'm not a fan of the Blazers and don't spend much time looking at them. I see this more as a personal preference type of thing rather than a technological leap into the future! Horses for course and personal decision...but with the usual Blaser price tags I expect!! Not for me..but each to their own!!
  5. Always worth a try, the worst they can say is no, I tend to think some regions are a tad easier though, after all there are more sheep in Devon/Cornwall than people The Met is slightly different, although to be fair I rate their FEO's to be the best of a bad bunch from my experience, but still limited shooting land in the city!! I will be interested to hear how you get on with the 6.5 ATB!!!
  6. It may not be confusing if you look at 1 region in isolation, as long as they stay consistant, but many regions class fox as VERMIN, others don't! Some will allow .22lr etc for fox, others will not, and the new wording reads along the lines of "Ground Game and Vermin and All other Lawful quarry"...sort that one out in relation to Fox!! It is ridiculously confusing, I have a pal in a region which flatly refuses to allow any rimfire for fox, but mine is conditioned, so I can legally visit my man on his land and shoot fox with MY rimfire, but he can't with his...confusing rubbish or what???
  7. And if it was not confusing enough already..the new wording agreed by ACPO to simplify and bring uniformity accross the regions.... ....and all other lawfull quarry .....has done nothing but add yet further confusion!!
  8. I'm a little confused as to why you are confused!! There is an Act of Parliament and Amendments (LAW) which lays down the EXACT detail for deer control! There is NO such Act relating to fox, there is Home Office Guidelines (which are simply guidelines) and there is each individual Police regions interpretation of these guidelines! If your force will not condition fox on your FAC for rimfire then you cannot legally shoot it! That does not make it illegal to shoot fox with a rimfire, it is only illegal in your region for the simple reason you are in breach of your conditions!! T
  9. hmm I hadn't though about that, it stands to reason though, as there will be fewer elements in a fixed scope than a variable scope, DB True on the whole, but don't let that be the decider, after all, it is only going to make a few minutes difference at dawn and dusk, there are a lot more hours in the day! The difference with modern optics is VERY small and personally vastly outweighed in my view by the versatility of variable mag!
  10. Frankly I don't see anything wrong with that budget, yes, good optics are worth it in the long term but there are PLENTY of good optics to be had around £500, and £1000 on a gun will give a very good choice. As others have said, are you considering the likes of a moderator, bipod etc etc, worth considering!!! My only "personal" suggestion would be ..DON'T get a heavy rifle if you intend trekking around far with it.
  11. No arguement there but lets be VERY CLEAR. This is really ALL to do with FOX hunting as we know, but obviuosly there is a chance of flushing rabbit or squirrel...or Badger....careful, etc!!! Written permission is ONLY required if you intend to actively hunt these quarry with your dog! It is NOT required if you take your dog out to push the pheasant/pigeon etc up! And for EVERYONE else written permission is NOT a legal requirement, even if you take your dog with you, but no arguement that it is much better to have it in writing anyway if you can! Not a required at all for
  12. 1991 Deer Act and 2007 Amendment lays down the calibre and power and types of ammo permissable on deer. 17HMR is NOT deer legal, the only possible excuse you could have for legitimately using 17HMR on any deer is to humanely despatch one you came accross as quickly as possible, if this was the most appropriate tool you had and to reduce undue suffering! This applies to England and Wales, Scotland is similar but different! But whichever country you are in 17HMR is not deer legal!
  13. Hope your feeling a bit better than you look!!!!
  14. Not sure what you looked up but I can assure you 110% that there is NO legal minimum, calibre/energy/type of rifle or bullet for shooting fox!!! You may certainly break the law in some circumstances by using a gun not conditioned for fox, but by way of calibre/power/etc there is NO specific law!!! A lot of forces do not like Rimfire at all for fox, that is their choice, it is NOT law, if you don't agree take them to court and contest it, they take the attitude few will have the balls..they are right!!
  15. Silver Pigeon III with 30" barrels last Saturday, Cylinder and 1/4, no 6 and No 5, no problem bringing down the Pheasant!!
  16. Quick update, did mine today, too lazy to pluck but they skinned a treat, 4 of us for lunch, and strange as it may seem the other 3 had never tasted Pheasant, all of them were impressed and happy to come back for more!! PS...as someone else said..when they start to go green be very careful!!!
  17. The Predator range is probably the easiest to strip Mod on the market... http://www.wildcatrifles.co.uk/
  18. Another good result and read John!! Out of interest a couple of questions, I think that's the heavy barrel on the rifle and the NF is heavy too, how do you get on with the weight!!! I get the impression you are not always out that long, or wait in ambush...could well be wrong, do you find the weight any sort of issue! Lambing, seems to start at different times throughout the UK, when do you start out there?? ATB!!
  19. Many years back when I started all this Malarky I tended to be a bit unhappy if I came home with a Blank, but over the years I have not only got better (but I still blank sometimes) but I have learnt to drink in the surroundings! The countryside has all sorts of secrets you steadily learn and see over the years, and anyone who has been shooting for a while sees FAR more than any "Rambler". I often think how lucky I am to see on a virtually daily basis things many people will never see in a lifetime!! Nature at work is a wonderful thing!! (but I still tend to enjoy it a bit more wh
  20. I'm not good enough to notice the difference, I suspect some maybe...I just sort of accepted historically that none were right and each manufacturer is as bad as the other!!! If someone knows better can you advise whose cartridges are consistantly right! Cheers
  21. According to Eley... Cylinder 10 yards = 20" Spread 40 yards = 58" Spread Half Choke 10 yards = 12" spread 40 yards = 45" spread And for interest Full Choke 10 yards = 9" spread 40yards = 40" spread
  22. Usually leave them about a week even in the hotter months (depends quite how warm)...but glad you brought this up...my brace from last Saturday are also still hanging too, forgot all about them.....just checked...mine are fine but probably do them tomorrow now...if I don't forget again!!
  23. Shotguns need cleaning every time you use them! Most manufacturers will give you a cleaning and parts and stripping guide with your new shotgun. Follow this and you will not go far wrong, tends to be a bit like car services, routine, extended, major!! If you are not happy, then by all means take to a dealer, but it will cost a lot and for most shooters will only be required every few years. I have been running a couple of Berettas for years and at one time both the Semi and the O/U were each using about 5000 carts a year, neither has ever been back to the dealer and they work ev
  24. It's the old chestnut..to clean or not to clean, frankly I reckon it is a no brainer, the HMR needs cleaning...others don't agree..up to them!!! The simple reason why your gun is all over the place (assuming everything is back together correctly and tight) is that you have not cleaned it thoroughly. You have agitated copper deposits etc without clearing them completely, hence your barrel is currently likely to worse than before you started cleaning it and bullets are being grazed along the barrel/crown! When the barrel/crown etc is clean it should take 1 or 2 shots at the very mo
