No arguement there but lets be VERY CLEAR. This is really ALL to do with FOX hunting as we know, but obviuosly there is a chance of flushing rabbit or squirrel...or Badger....careful, etc!!! Written permission is ONLY required if you intend to actively hunt these quarry with your dog! It is NOT required if you take your dog out to push the pheasant/pigeon etc up! And for EVERYONE else written permission is NOT a legal requirement, even if you take your dog with you, but no arguement that it is much better to have it in writing anyway if you can! Not a required at all for

.22lr ans .17HMR on first FAC?
Deker replied to Leicester hunter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
1991 Deer Act and 2007 Amendment lays down the calibre and power and types of ammo permissable on deer. 17HMR is NOT deer legal, the only possible excuse you could have for legitimately using 17HMR on any deer is to humanely despatch one you came accross as quickly as possible, if this was the most appropriate tool you had and to reduce undue suffering! This applies to England and Wales, Scotland is similar but different! But whichever country you are in 17HMR is not deer legal! -
Hope your feeling a bit better than you look!!!!

.22lr ans .17HMR on first FAC?
Deker replied to Leicester hunter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Not sure what you looked up but I can assure you 110% that there is NO legal minimum, calibre/energy/type of rifle or bullet for shooting fox!!! You may certainly break the law in some circumstances by using a gun not conditioned for fox, but by way of calibre/power/etc there is NO specific law!!! A lot of forces do not like Rimfire at all for fox, that is their choice, it is NOT law, if you don't agree take them to court and contest it, they take the attitude few will have the balls..they are right!! -
Silver Pigeon III with 30" barrels last Saturday, Cylinder and 1/4, no 6 and No 5, no problem bringing down the Pheasant!!
-
Quick update, did mine today, too lazy to pluck but they skinned a treat, 4 of us for lunch, and strange as it may seem the other 3 had never tasted Pheasant, all of them were impressed and happy to come back for more!! PS...as someone else said..when they start to go green be very careful!!!

The Predator range is probably the easiest to strip Mod on the market... http://www.wildcatrifles.co.uk/ -
You're not safe in the fog you know
Deker replied to JohnGalway's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Another good result and read John!! Out of interest a couple of questions, I think that's the heavy barrel on the rifle and the NF is heavy too, how do you get on with the weight!!! I get the impression you are not always out that long, or wait in ambush...could well be wrong, do you find the weight any sort of issue! Lambing, seems to start at different times throughout the UK, when do you start out there?? ATB!! -

Many years back when I started all this Malarky I tended to be a bit unhappy if I came home with a Blank, but over the years I have not only got better (but I still blank sometimes) but I have learnt to drink in the surroundings! The countryside has all sorts of secrets you steadily learn and see over the years, and anyone who has been shooting for a while sees FAR more than any "Rambler". I often think how lucky I am to see on a virtually daily basis things many people will never see in a lifetime!! Nature at work is a wonderful thing!! (but I still tend to enjoy it a bit more wh -
I'm not good enough to notice the difference, I suspect some maybe...I just sort of accepted historically that none were right and each manufacturer is as bad as the other!!! If someone knows better can you advise whose cartridges are consistantly right! Cheers

According to Eley... Cylinder 10 yards = 20" Spread 40 yards = 58" Spread Half Choke 10 yards = 12" spread 40 yards = 45" spread And for interest Full Choke 10 yards = 9" spread 40yards = 40" spread

Usually leave them about a week even in the hotter months (depends quite how warm)...but glad you brought this up...my brace from last Saturday are also still hanging too, forgot all about them.....just checked...mine are fine but probably do them tomorrow now...if I don't forget again!!

Shotguns need cleaning every time you use them! Most manufacturers will give you a cleaning and parts and stripping guide with your new shotgun. Follow this and you will not go far wrong, tends to be a bit like car services, routine, extended, major!! If you are not happy, then by all means take to a dealer, but it will cost a lot and for most shooters will only be required every few years. I have been running a couple of Berettas for years and at one time both the Semi and the O/U were each using about 5000 carts a year, neither has ever been back to the dealer and they work ev

It's the old chestnut..to clean or not to clean, frankly I reckon it is a no brainer, the HMR needs cleaning...others don't agree..up to them!!! The simple reason why your gun is all over the place (assuming everything is back together correctly and tight) is that you have not cleaned it thoroughly. You have agitated copper deposits etc without clearing them completely, hence your barrel is currently likely to worse than before you started cleaning it and bullets are being grazed along the barrel/crown! When the barrel/crown etc is clean it should take 1 or 2 shots at the very mo

If the Sportsman, as the UK importer can't help then perhaps this lot http://www.harrisbipods.com/ Failing that the manufacturers direct, there is a phone link on the site above!!

There are lots out there and most people will rate what they have as the best. Personally I rate the ASE as some of the best built and best sound reduction (JUST ) but some have weight/balance issues (got rid of my S5 for just this reason)!.....oh, and cost!!! I run P8 Compacts on ALL my centrefires, they do the job for me offering a good combination of balance, sound reduction, ease of maintenance and cost!! I'm not suggesting they are the best in the world but they offer a package I can live with!! -
Don't know it, do you have any links...sounds interesting!!!!????

FAC application and footpaths?
Deker replied to Leicester hunter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Footpaths have never caused me a problem from the FEO point of view, I have lots of the f*****g things crossing all over loads of my land. The time will come though I suspect!! -
Some of those look massive what weight are the big ones? In Aus when shooting does the bullet rise instead of dropping due to gravity? Doesn't the bullet spin in the opposite direction South of the Equator, seems to work well!!!

No such thing, but the highest magnification I have on anything is 26x, and I struggle to remember the last time I cranked anything up further than about 16x for any reason! It gets very personal with scopes and everyone will have their preferences, I rarely shoot above 6x or 8x MAX out in the field, even to 200+ yards, but I still find the opportunity of higher mag useful for scanning around!!

Yes Sales patter and a load of cobblers. The 'Brooks' CZ trigger kit is VERY good it improves the trigger 100% and a modest 'Muppet' can install it with no problem. The 'Gunsmith' might be right if it was still 1965 and the best gun in town was a dreadful 'Tractorial' Parker Hale abomination. But it is not, the trigger kit just replaces the trigger tension spring with a 'thinner' less powerful one and applies a spacer to take up 'slack' in the trigger sear clearance. If you have no idea what I mean any decent gunshop will put the £20 kit in for another £20, do it. I would tend to agr

Firearms Licensing Departments
Deker replied to SportingShooter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hi All, Help me out here if you can please, sorry if I have missed it in all the previous pages but I currently have two issues, one very serious, with Jill Fuller, Firearms Manager in Wiltshire. Has anyone had any dealings with her please and what are your views...oh yes..is it Jill or Gill...Cheers!! Edit...I also understand the WHOLE Wiltshire Firearms team based at Devizes HQ are civilians, can anyone confirm this please?? -
Find the best sub and the best HV for your rifle and you will find you will still get tighter groups at 100 yards with the subs...but you obviously get more energy with the HV. The Vast majority of .22lr barrels are 1-16 twist, which seems to suit the subs better than HV! Just the way it is!! I tried many HV in my .22lr over the yaers but gave up with them all long back and only use it with subs now. Best HV I found in it were Remingtin Yellow Jacket HP and then CCI Velocitors...the Stingers were not good for grouping!! But every barrel is different!! Even in the .22lr

Charts, tables and ballistic figures on any site will at best only ever give you an indication. The only way you will know is when you fire them. Weight and speed is only part, BC is also important as is barrel length/harmonics...and mods/muzzle breaks, barrel age, wear etc, etc! And whilst in principle any ammo should either be up or down without crosswinds, for some reason there are those that kick left or right as well. have fun!!
