Like I say, it's great to see you wanting to get into all this, and we all started somewhere and we all had/have a lot to learn, but perhaps another word with your gamekeeper pal, etc is in order... i want to shoot rabbits bolted by the ferrets and a bit of decoying and crow and pigeon shooting ..what do you think would be best for this, lets just think about rifle or shotgun to start with, forget calibres??... ATB!!

Pretty much whatever may have a season, and whatever may or may not be on the General Licence is open to discussion with Natural England..... IF you have a strong enough case they will let you deal with it.... It will still be possible to apply for a personal licence. Applications are judged on their merits on a case by case basis. Information on how to apply for such a licence is given on our website. http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/ourwork/regulation/wildlife/default.aspx You will have to put one almighty good case!!!

It's good to see you coming into shooting but a few points.....a biger better gun, I have 3 cabinets full of shotguns and rifles yet I still have a 12ft lb and a 26ft air rifle as well, because I have a use for them. No gun calibre or power is BETTER than another, they are just different and have differing uses!! You do need to rush, if you have expectations of getting either, especially a FAC by July! What do you primarily want to shoot and at what ranges?? What land do you have? What input/knowledge do your parents have of this subject overall??

Why would you not go for the varmint barrel, I have used the heavier barrel a lot and I find the heavier barrel helps keep the gun steady on long range shots. Why would you not choose the varmint barrel? Some folks have had problems getting good groups with their CZ 452 Varmints maybe due to that model only having one action screw. I have one in .22 WMR and love it. Not heard that before...... Another reason NOT to buy the Varmint is it will not shoot any better than a light barrel in the field...so why bother with the extra weight? If you want to lug around a heavy gun

Well done John! Still a bit quiet on the foxes round here, must have done too good a job last year

You still need to have nominated land as you did for the grant. The open ticket allows you to shoot on any land that you have permission on but the onus on safety falls on you and rightly so. In a nutshell you still need a dedicated piece of land as your main ground as it gives the required good reason for ownership. AS above, and from what you say you appear to have no land now which means you currently have no need for the rifle or a FAC. What is this registering your gun to a piece of land, do you mean permission or clearance for the calibre or what? Deker I c

This model is OK and if you are on a budget will certainly do you for the time being..or longer!! Personally I don't like this reticle and I wouldn't waste my money on an illiminated ret either! Thanks deker. Why dont you like the illuminated ret??? Maby im doing to much reading on line I thought it was a good feature. please tell, you could save me some very scarce €€€€€s I have 2 scopes with IR, don't remember the last time I turned either of them on. If it's light enough I don't need it, if it isn't I use the lamp!! Some may like them, I would

The magazine needs to be out during transport, the bolt doesn't, nevertheless it's probably a good idea! Ammo can be stored with (not loaded in) the gun, but still preferably out of site! If you stop, leave the vehicle etc, you need to take all reasonable precautions!

I have had a quiet start to the year bunny wise for several reasons, on half what I was this time last year, but I suspect things will improve!

BUT... if you can group the 17 at 1" easily at 100 metres then just go for head shots and the meat will be fine! It all depends what best suits your land and the neighbours, that's why many people have both!

Not 100% true there. Barrles can come lose if not fitted right, But So long as you get a good gunsmith to change the barrle and have it fitted right then there is no problems, inface i would go for the quad just for that reason alone " over the " CZ " if my mem is right, the quad has a nice action and is very easy to work on also, I say Go for it mate. You don't need a Gunsmith to change the barrel on Quad, although I suspect he would be grateful of the ££ for 30 seconds work!!

What was this 20g V-Max you were using, I can't recall ever seeing it 20g? Cheers

In essence we are dealing with two areas of legislation, which are conflicting but relevant. The game laws give ownership of dead game to the person who actually kills the game. Now the deer act makes it illegal to remove a deer carcass under the section of 'poaching', which you are obviously not if you are retrieving shot game from over a boundary line. See below: 1 Poaching of deer .(1) Subject to subsection (3) below, if any person enters any land without the consent of the owner or occupier or other lawful authority in search or pursuit of any deer with the intention of ta

A number of these questions cannot be answered by anyone here with any degree of authority. You say ..the officer ...told you to apply in a couple of years whern you were 14 and you shoot with your uncle. I can't help but think the best thing to do is talk to them!!

Any case law from 1971 would have been overridden By the Deer Act 1991 if there were any points of conflict!

Came as a bit of a shock to me as well. Have a look in "Fair Game" the law of country sports and the protection of wildlife (ISBN 0720717345), ownership of wild game (or deer) can only be achieved after death and only by the person who killed the game. A wild deer is just that, wild with no owner. If YOU kill it or reduce it to possession, YOU own it, no matter where the animal dies. Now it becomes complex, with regards to the circumstances of the animals demise. Extracted from the book (adapted slightly with (a)/( & You) : Example : Land (a) is you legal shooting ground. La

Our only hope is a lot of the well paid MP's have nice English guns and wont wont to trade them in for a standard production gun that will shoot steel tin ect slim hope but it will happen in the long run. It sadens me and in a way I am pleased I am 56 and have been privey to the good years. but wont help me in my trade. Sage Gunsmith. Very sorry for the young and keen shooters of today. Well, we are a similar age, and I can recall some of the good times as well, pistols still grate with me...anyway MP's and their Old English guns unfortunately I suspect they will vote for the ban whe

Yep, if it already lists on your FAC, which it should of course, you need a variation. Seems absolutely daft to me and a waste of everyones time and money, but then again, aren't so many things when it comes to firearms!!

Three examples: 1) The OP pursues a deer from his legal permission on to a neighbours farm where he has no legal permission, shoots and kills the deer the deer belongs to the OP and not either landowner. 2) The OP shot a deer on his legal permission, the deer ran on to the neighbours farm alive, if the OP was to follow up on the deer he would be committing a poaching offence, but after he had killed the deer the deer would still belong to the OP. 3) If the OP shot the deer on his legal permission, the deer ran and died on the neighbours farm as a direct result of the OP's shot ta
