  1. That pal, is the correct answer! It took 5 pages to find someone who posted what i personally would consider the best reply... I have both and regularly use both depending on what i'm doing and where. But that was 6 months ago and it wasn't the question either! Of course one isn't inherently better than the other, they are different!
  2. Lapua 22 Ammo ?? Which? I have some Biathlon at 48g. Not sure they do this anymore, it's interesting to say the least!
  3. Exactly, size shouldn't necessarily come into it, it should be about topography. For example, if you ONLY had a 1 acre BOMB crater with 100 foot vertical sides you shouldn't have any problem getting a serious centrefire! If you had 100 acres of Millpond flat land surrounded by a school, town, hospital, motorways etc you may struggle to get a rimfire! It's all a bit daft anyway, and a lot is down to the shooter, after all, if you stand on your boundary it doesn't matter if you have 1,000,000 acres in one direction, you have NOTHING in the other direction!
  4. It's already been said, and if you have good reason crack on!
  5. We all shoot within our ability and the tool in our hands (or should do) and thats fine, but personally I am more than happy knocking them down with .22lr and subs at that distance, a Hornet is easy!
  6. I've got a feeling you would make the Nationals, and Breakfast TV, and 6 and 10 News! You may even get a write up in Hunting Life!
  7. As above, for the normal day to day use/borrowing I see nothing in the public interest in bringing any sort of test case. Unfortunately, if the poo really hits the fan one day and everything goes badly wrong for someone this may be tested, we are talking about debatable possibilities, and with printed guidelines it would be an interesting case.
  8. Yes.... ....... can you cut your lawn with a pair of nail scissors, another Yes. but there may be a better option!
  9. Obviously the choice is your, but remember the metalwork is the same on whichever stainless model T3, if you want laminated then fine, but it is well over £100 more than the Hunter! Neither will shoot better than the other, you are paying for aesthetics!
  10. ...a matter that has been the subject of debate for a long time in a lot of quarters, the differences in the physical product are small, some say microscopic, the legal difference is large!
  11. Wind is notoriously difficult to deal with over even quite short distances, let alone decent length shots. What angle is it, is it gusting, what strength/speed, and is it consistent to target, almost certainly not. Anyone who has shot on the range on more than a few occasions will tell you tales of daft wind situations, the flags are incredible to watch sometimes, the wind potentially completely reversing during the bullets path to the target, over just 200-300 yards or less at times. Learn the basics for YOUR gun and ammo, generally best from field work, charts and graphs are good,
  12. We have these sort of posts all the time and there is plenty in History. Frankly all of those you mention (and many others) are fine, and people will tend to recommend what they have or what they aspire to, that doesn't mean you will get on with them. I run a T3 Lite (.223), T3 Hunter (.243) and a 700SPS (.308), they all work!
  13. Expanding factory ammo approx 50p upwards, FMJ a bit less, reloading is not that much cheaper. Just the same it is easy to pay £1.00 PLUS for ammo.
  14. This is case size generally, not usually the bullet (but no guarantee) CCI 40g HP Subs always used to be very tight to chamber in mine. Try some different manufacturers and see how you get on.
  15. ........ I never was very good with words, why couldn't I have said that?
  16. Chaps I'm not trying to take this tread off topic or have a go at anyone, I have a LOT of different rifles/calibres and I take foxes in a LOT of different environments and at a LOT of different distances, hence why I feel reasonably qualified to suggest a rimfire IS the tool for the job in some situations, just as a CF is in other situations. I'm not trying to start an International incident and I refer you to my original comment in #2 reprinted above. ATB!
  17. You don't need a centrefire to shoot a fox on the end of your barrel, (even though some here don't feel capable), after all they are only about the same size as a medium size dog, and if you can't stop that with a 30g V-Max at 322 ft lb then you need to take up knitting not buy a centrefire! You will be in CF territory if you want long foxes, as per my post at #2. Commonly the .222, .223 and 22-250 are quoted, the .243 with a light V-Max eclipses all of them though. Scope and mod will be down to the rifle/calibre you buy and your finances and personal preferences!
  18. You have a FAC, you will just have a job producing it. Take a copy and if there is any grief refer the nice policeman to the National Firearms Database.
  19. Yep, they are nice and easy to clean. I clean mine 2 or 3 times a year and have put thousands of cartridges through it. One thing you will notice, is after you have given the gas piston a good clean, the ejected cartridges will fly miles! :hmm: ALL gas operated semis are a pain to clean, my 391 gets cleaned every outing and if it has had a decent session it can take 2 hours to clean PROPERLY! I love semis but I hate the cleaning!
  20. The difference here is that I do use the right tool for the job, I have a .223 and a.243 and a .308, those above were shot with the right tool in the situation! So were these! .22lr, .... just over 20lb! .22lr, ..... 20lb exactly! I take out the tool to do the job in any given situation, I don't have to use the same rifle for every fox between 7 yards and 300 yards!
  21. Rimfire for bunnies centre fire for charlie. But the thats just my own opinion. They are not a proper Fox shooting tool, buy a .22 cf. I can't help thinking what you should really be saying is use the appropriate tool for the specific job! .22lr .17HMR .22WMR
  22. Either or Neither, each bit of land is different and the odds are they will get used to whatever you use anyway. Haven't used filters for years, doesn't seem to make any difference, just use a Lamping kit with a dimmer, and USE the dimmer, either that or buy a NiteSite!
  23. purchased and tested it out today, cycles all the carts i had 28 - 36 no problem !!! HAPPY DAYS.. people tell me to use 70mm only ?? It isn't a Hatsan, these should cycle pretty much anything you want to use in them, mine is happy with 21g as well!
  24. Ok, ALL my rimfires are conditioned for Fox, but many regions will not have that, I have no idea how NI views this! Today I would suggest a WMR with 30g V Max as the option to go for in answer to your specific question! I paid £11 box for the last lot of this ammo, so its a very similar price to HMR and flies well to! Lots of people will have a view and many will suggest a rimfire isn't a Fox calibre, that is daft without further qualification, NO fox will survive a 30g V Max WMR within its operating range, if you want looooooong foxes then a rimfire isn't for you today! BUT, the
  25. Unfortunately the post above is correct, a fox (or deer) could walk clean through the pattern of SG at 50 yards. These carts are awesomely devastating but you need to be real close! Not from my gun! They pattern pretty well through my beretta out to 50 yards, but the pattern does deteriorate rapidly after that point. A fair point you raised, but you assumed that I don't pattern test before I use on live quarry - a good idea for any shotgun user I reckon. That's forums for you! But I didn't assume anything, I made a comment based on experience of SG usage and the informati
