  1. I have no idea of any .22lr, HMR or WMR figures over 200 yards and as you say they should be of no practical use to anyone, but out of interest what is your source of this information?
  2. Please READ my post, you have confirmed that whichever way you want to look at it the WMR sheds energy FAR quicker than HMR. Did I say anything about which was the most powerful, (even though the HMR is often more powerful at distance), I SAID ...and retains its energy better! Your examples HMR 17g energy loss at 100yards 109ft lb, that is 245-136ft lb. Retained energy at 100 yards is 55.5% so energy loss is 44.5% HMR 20g energy loss at 100yards 113ft lb, that is 250-137ft lb. Retained energy at 100 yards is 54.2% so energy loss is 45.8% WMR 30g energy loss at 100yards 205ft lb, that i
  3. Thank you for confirming what I said...... "....and some people are getting their wires crossed, the HMR is less effected in the wind than the WMR, and retains its energy better at looooonger range, look it up yourself!" Your examples above HMR 17g energy loss at 100yards 109ft lb HMR 20g energy loss at 100yards 113ft lb WMR 30g energy loss at 100yards 205ft lb WMR 40g energy loss at 100yards 162ft lb I'd say that shows very conclusively that the HMR retains its energy better! Edit, any time you want to show a blown up HMR barrel feel free and I will apologise, until then l
  4. HMR has ongoing ammo issues, it is well known. I have no argument with this and evidence has been shown of mags blown out, as regards EXPLODED barrels, you are in the land of the fairies, show me one!
  5. They have a place, as does the HMR etc etc...... I like mine, and as I always say, "it gives me a feeling of confidence", and the 30g V-Mag is excellent for my requirements! ...and some people are getting their wires crossed, the HMR is less effected in the wind than the WMR, and retains its energy better at looooonger range, look it up yourself! Deker your right all bar the energy bit. From Hornady Website, like I said, look it up yourselves! HMR17g V-Max Muzzle 245ft lb, 100 yards 136ft lb, 200yards 72ft lb Energy loss in 200 yards 173ft lb WMR30g V-Max, Muzzle 322ft

  7. I'm getting confused, what is your point? At this rate you seem to be suggesting he should chuck away his .22lr, Hornet, .222 and not even consider a HMR because there is less wind drift on his .243! A HMR is LESS effected by the wind than a .22lr OR a .22WMR, and a .308 is less effected by the wind than a Hornet, how far up the scale do you want to go? And what is fair about comparing a HMR to a Hornet or .222, or .243 or .308 or whatever, that it isn't fair comparing it to a .22lr? The HMR isn't BAD in a crosswind within its operating range, which is much further than a .22lr.
  8. Your interpretation of spectacular is very different to mine! The HMR is LESS susceptible to the wind than the .22lr which apparently he uses and has not suggested he has any issue with the wind. So how would you describe wind drift in a .22lr? Taking wind into consideration is a fact of shooting, you have to learn what every calibre you use does.
  9. EVERYTHING is put off by a bit of wind, reload the .222 or use a HMR, simple!
  10. theres been a problem with cracks in the necks of hmr rounds since the day it was released Just a few of mine, happens regularly.
  11. The HMR is a bastardised WMR with neck issues, thats the problem. The Win Mag is a Brand New Cartridge built from scratch is not the 17 win mag a 22 win mag necked down simular to the 17hmr being a necked down 22 wmr Am I missing something, what is the difference between a .22 Win Mag and a .22WMR? The .17 Win Super Mag is a bigger cartridge and my understanding is that it has been developed from scratch. Edit, for clarification I have just edited #6 to reflect .17 Win Super Mag!
  12. You have a few centrefires and apparently your quarry sits just out of range of the .22, what .22 are you suggesting .22lr, .22WMR, .22 centrefire and do you have one? The .17 Hornet is a centrefire, and the HMR is a rimfire, IF your quarry sits JUST outside .22lr range as you say, then all you need is a HMR!

  14. You have done remarkably well, I can tell you the TRADE price with VAT is just OVER double what you paid. Someone has either made a mistake or it is the sale of the century!
  15. The .17 Centrefires have never taken the market by storm and there is no reason to think/suggest this will either. No doubt the .17Hornet will float some peoples boat, and every calibre has a use (some a very narrow band of use), but look at what else is out there. What do you want it for, what does it excel at uniquely, what gap in the market does this fill, what quarry is screaming out for this, there is a argument to suggest it solves a problem that doesn't exist! Anyway, still only very low numbers of these available in the UK and therefore no real meaningful data/information to j
  16. The 527 is a Centerfire, it isn't a rimfire 452/453 or 455!
  17. This comes round and round, you will never "NEED" anything more than a CZ can provide for field work. Some simply want more, fine, but don't start thinking you are getting a more accurate rifle or one that will last twice as long if you pay two or three times the price of a CZ, you wont.
  18. If you have a slot that says .17 HMR then that isn't a slot for a .17 Winchester Super Magnum Rimfire. Nobody knows 100% yet as the Winchester hasn't arrived, but I would suggest you need a variation, as above though, talk to your region!
  19. "Personally" I'm not a fan of bore snakes on rifles, their origins lie in quickly cleaning and removing corrosive powder residues in shotguns in the field, then do the job properly when you get home. This doesn't transfer to rifles in the same way!
  20. My Centrefire mods get cleaned every time the rifle is shot, but CF is a little different and they are P8 Mods which are easy to strip and clean. My .22lr mods get Cleaned infrequently, but my WMR and HMR mods get cleaned more often, but not every time. Let me qualify that a little, EVERY time I clean the guns the mods comes off and gets a good bash around to get rid of any lose crud, when everything that is likely to fall out has, job done, proper clean is done as required! Each to their own, some may never clean, others may clean every outing. That works for me, my guns shoot st
  21. It looks to me like you are after an argument. If you want a debate PM me, what the **** does that add to this thread!
  22. Ha Ha, yeah, being a dealer makes it work, that's your answer then, everyone apply to be a dealer and the problem will disappear! Edit, Yeah I re-read it and maybe I didn't take in some of what you qualified , I still struggle with 99%, short barrels, big scopes, NS set back etc, I can't believe 99% have that issue upfront. I did also qualify my answers with possible reasons and solutions!
  23. no one was slagging anyone and the point was about flare off the mod if you put it on a full bore with a T8 you, can see jack shit, and said to si it was not a dig at him or davey so why come in like this . This is what is wrong with forums like this if some one says somthing you come in like a pack of dogs I'm not getting into an argument with anyone here but staggering generalisations and exaggeration are going on. That one above, it may on yours but it will depend on the type and length of barrel, scope type/tube, mounts, where you fix the NS on the scope, etc etc. I run the N
  24. I have knocked Roe Down at 229 yards with my .223 and fox further, so 200 yards is straightforward and easier with a 22-250. I see the 22-250 as a strange calibre, largely because of the Law, but there is debate anyway. It is a very capable calibre, and easily capable of dealing with Roe, and bigger deer, but there you have the Law. I see it as a top end Fox calibre but not as capable as a .243 with a 55g or 58g V-Max, which personally I would rate as the best long range fox setup available, it is not only a pussycat to shoot but laser like and devastating on arrival. Of course th
  25. Deker what are you doing different from everyone else then mate? with the standard NS mount and a large mod you will in 99% of set ups get IR flare. IR flare from a moderator is common in most systems, commercial or home built its one of those things we need to get around. SCRAMBLE No specific measures, but................... Sunshade perhaps, standard on all my scopes, solved historical problems with lamping kits and no problems with NS. There are many options to try and resolve any issue anyone may have with flare on a NS, which, as far as I can see are the same as the optio
