New Member, Tips On Cage Trapping Rabbits Please !
Deker replied to pestie100's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I tend to do fine in the fields with a rifle, its the smaller jobs, garden centres etc that a cage may work in for me, so I only need small numbers of traps, I have them! Generally use the same size traps for these to...... -

Ok, so it's place the traps as appropriate, is there any real suggestion we needs loads, what's wrong with a couple? Carrot and apple are suggested baits, did I miss any other? Cover the cage floor....... and don't bother to cover the cage floor? I hear this all the time about FOX live traps, there is the school that suggests you will never catch a fox if you don't cover the floor as they don't like the mesh, then there is what happens to me, and I catch them fine straight on the wire floor! I remember I did use cauliflower stalk bait on one Garden Centre site and got 1 rabbit, s -
Terry will be well pleased of the advert! Sweet round the .222 but always nice to get a group like that!

that's a silly bet to make, the cage trap would not be my own choice of controlling rabbits but I know a couple of lads who put a lot of time into them,i know one field where they caught over a hundred in two days , try and match that with your pop gun HOW? I really would like some pointers here, my rabbit cage trapping has been far from successful! -

Not my first choice method. I have hardly caught any in Cage traps, probably less than a handful ever! So, it's either not easy or I'm doing it wrong, so I'll watch this with interest! -
Moderators, as rifles and scopes etc etc get personal, everyone has an opinion, and it will usually come down to what they have! I run P8 COMPACTS (smaller and lighter but moderation is just as good, particularly on a .223) on all my centrefires. The P8 also offers a big selection of calibre specific baffle sets for maximum performance, Predator 8 Calibre Inserts Now Available - .17, 22, 243, 25, 27, 30 , 338, 375, 44. Others made to order. It is easy to strip and clean, all parts are available as spares, should you want to change calibre/rifle it's easy, you don't need to

Have you had your mitts on a Atlas bipod??Glad i wasted my money on one Atlas are expensive in relation to Harris, there are plenty of even BETTER and MUCH more expensive bipods available for target (or whatever use you want to make of them)! Nothing wrong with Atlas except the price, and personally I see no advantage over a Harris with them, yeah, they are well made, but my Harris have had some use over the years and still work fine. Frankly, it is amazing the feats of engineering excellencee you see down the range, but some are totally impractical for the field! Get what you l

My .223 Is Complete :) Falcon Scope Howa
Deker replied to GEOFF.223's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
i adjusted the trigger down on mine pal have not checked weight yet my do tomorrow when i go to zero new scope. i can not put the rear mount back any further as the is no more slots on the weaver rail i have another one piece rail but its 5mm taller and i will only be able to move mount back one more slot. so if its doing the job tamo i will leave as is. I thought that and didn't follow the response, you can't centralise the rear mount more on the rail, the front appears to be mounted centrally? Yeah, if it works then fine, but as said, mounts as far apart as sensible is us -
As has already been said, what suits one person/barrel will not necessarily work for another. I have long been a fan of Magtech 40g HP Subs, they work a treat in both my current .22lr rifles, and my lads, VERY accurate and a massive HP which peels back and expands brilliantly, but the price has gone through the roof in about the last 4 years from £3.50 x 100 to around £11 x 100. You will find many who will not give this ammo house room as it doesn't work for them, it works brilliantly for me! I now tend to use Winchester (big HP), and RWS if I can't get them, I have tried loads over

Yes it is for some, and I think its 13.5 as well (could be wrong), thats why I have the 12-25, that works prone as well, but in honesty the 13.5-27 may work better for sitting (for some people) so either or both depending on your build!

There are others on the market ........ I have seen the results from some. I run 2 x Harris 9-13 and 12-25 BOTH Swivel. Be advised to get the swivel! They have had Years of use so far and both still going strong. Frankly, cheaper doesn't add up whichever way you look at it, even if you don't get on with this shooting malarkey and want to sell up, used Harris trade quickly and easily at good money.

They are different! Yes, there are areas of overlap, just as there is with a HMR and WMR, WMR and Hornet, Hornet and a ...etc. The .22lr excels with subs, accuracy and low noise, but range is relatively limited, HV is unpredictable in many ways in a .22lr. A HMR will take the head off a Canada at 100 yards and bunnies at 150yards, try that with a .22lr. They are noisier and VERY hard to moderate, and ammo costs more than .22lr. I could go on for hours about the differences and merits of each, but it isn't a matter of comparing the rifles to see which is "best" , it is a matte

I currently run a lot of different rifles from 12ft lb to .308 and shotguns. My FAC Air is a Falcon FN19 Skeleton, it runs between 25-26ft lb, depends on the time of year (yes, there is a little fluctuation from freezing to very hot) it has run on AA Field, assorted slightly lighter and Bisley Magnum. For me and my requirements it runs a treat on AA Fields 5.51 at 16g. Tell me it doesn't........... ATB!
-
Is this a wind up...... .... 25ft lb is too hot for 14g and too low for 16+g pellets! And the advantage of FAC is to flatten the trajectory? Sorry typo error, it should read fac air. My experience using fac air comes from over 25yrs using hw80's, early daystate midas, eliminators in .20/.22 and laterly fac rapids in .177 and .22 cal. The 14gn .22 pellets tend to go inaccurate much past 20 ftlb. You may find a barrel that will run them at 25/30ftlb straight, but in my experiences it'll be very lucky. So we are left with three main contenders in .22. These being barrcudas at 21gn an

its ok, as long as your write across it, this is a copy You dont need to because when you copy it the word Fraud appears right across it Keep up, this was trialled by several forces, and whilst there are no doubt still many FAC's out there this works on, many regions have now dropped this paper and nothing shows anymore on photocopies!.

There is no legal requirement to inform your region if you simply relocate, sell or indeed add any cabinet in your current address. If your region has imposed some condition on you that you must tell them ask why, or simply ask them to point you in the direction of any part of any of the Firearms Acts that requires this? Security is YOUR responsibility! You are obliged to advise your region if you move house and they will then decide if they wish to inspect your cabinet or not, quite commonly not.

Maximum Range Of 22Rimfire On Foxes
Deker replied to ferrets88's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
This is 20lb. It went down with the CZ .22lr shown and Magtech 40g HP subs at 100 yards. Don't expect me to say a .22lr is an everyday 100 yard fox tool, I don't consider it is. You have to evaluate situation, circumstances, equipment, ammo, experience and confidence! If I was going out after foxes specifically at this distance or longer I would always take a more powerful tool. So, what is the maximum range of rimfire on foxes, it's what you can achieve, but it isn't a competition, don't start chucking .22lr at foxes in the next county! -
Maximum Range Of 22Rimfire On Foxes
Deker replied to ferrets88's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
What do you want anyone here to say?? You are new to shooting foxes but have killed them stone dead at yards with a rimfire! But your local shop says no more than 25-30 yards. So, if you have killed them stone dead at yards why are you listening to your local shop? And why are you asking here if you know you can kill them stone dead at yards? -
Last couple at this price, ONLY £27 delivered to UK mainland. This is new packaged product. Excellent sling, fully adjustable 23"-49", wide shoulder pad and non slip insert, QR Swivels AND Studs included. RRP £40 Plus P&P. Any questions feel free to ask. Cheers Deker

They are good, snare collar doesn't usually last more than 2 or 3 outings so consider making your own. You need a level of skill to know where/how to place and bait, and of course they are NOT species specific, so care is required in there specific location. Approved for use in the UK since about 2009 I think, and cost about £100-125. I like them, but they are only ever one tool in the many ways to deal with a fox!

Your FAC has actually expired? Where are your guns now? Talk to your region.

Seen This Today, and Thought Of You Guys!
Deker replied to davyt63's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
We have heard a lot about this new 17 Winchester but we are unlikely to see any in this country until much later this year and more likely 2014. Charts are all very well but performance in the field will be much more revealing, and MUCH of its success, or otherwise, will be down to pricing, ammo in particular!
