  1. Why can't you ask the police? Yes it is a pain, but that's what everyone else has to do, keep asking the Police to check the land and the odds are they too will find it a pain. That's a good route to an unrestricted FAC!
  2. Hi it sounds like you dont rate UK Custom shop, i have two Howas from them and so do a few of my mates and there is nothing wrong with the screw cutting or crowns, i only got the guns no extras and put Titanium mounts and S/B scopes on never had a problem. UK Custom shop did some appalling work on the threads etc of Howa in the early days. Perhaps you got lucky or someone else does them now! I rate their Predator 8 as a package, but generally not much impressed with them, got one gun from them and a lot of grief. Thats life!
  3. Nothing wrong with them. UK Custom shop always used to do all the Cut/thread/crown for imported guns, they were not unknown to make a mess of it, don't know if they still do the work on them. The fact is there are very few makes of gun that are s**t. Howa are not the best, but they are fine guns generally. If any issues arise it tends to be from the above engineering or "packages" of the gun bought with cheap scopes/mounts etc. In principle to Howa.
  4. I don't see, and never have seen this, as which is better, they are different. A club hammer is excellent and so is a pin hammer, which would you use for knocking in a 4" nail? As has already been suggested by several above, You need to look at your land and decide which tool best suits the task. I have 2x.22lr, HMR and WMR, none is better than the other, they are simply better suited to some tasks. Ammo price is not a factor in determining which tool is best for the job, noise maybe but it will make squat diddly difference if all your bunnies are 150 yards away across a dead f
  5. It certainly will, but you are better than me, I am happy to take 140-150 shots without problem, maybe up to 160-180 if the situation arrises, but for ME, I am happier to stay just short of 200 yards! 100 yard head shots are quite straighforward, I have one lakeside site where we are 100 yards, prone, behind tree cover, shooting slightly down and off the bipod, it is always Canada Goose Head shots, a miss is rare! 100 yard fox too!
  6. MY HMR was ammo fussy when new, I tried just about every 17g available, and it didn't like the 20g at all. That was several 1000's of rounds ago, when I eventually decided to use up all the part used boxes I had left the difference in performance was all but undetectable and it even handles the 20g ok now. Seems to me you have to get the barrel well run in and LOOK AFTER IT, and it will serve you well, frankly the same as all rifle barrels. I tend to use Hornady Blue these days whenever I can, they are the cheapest I can get and they work! As a general comment I find the HMR ex
  7. They are worth what you are prepared to pay. If you have what you want and you are happy, that's all that matters.
  8. nice looker that, i too have been looking at wmr as a carry about gun for opportunistic shoots at fox and things. also it would silence quite well compared to a c/f, so in theory should attract little attension daytime in places quite close to civilization. as ive stated before ive had bad expierences with the hmr and fox`s even with head shots. Always tricky this one, because it is pretty obvious I like the WMR, this is my second, and both of mine have performed very well, I have been a long term devotee of the calibre, but I also have 2 x .22lr and a HMR and CF etc. As I always say,

  10. My previous WMR loved the CCI 40g Maxi Mag HP V, but my latest one is not so keen, groups gone out to 25-30mm, loves the Hornady 30g V-Max though, thats just the way it is sometimes So, yours will possibly like CCI, perhaps I can help you, I have a brand new 500 brick available for £100 collected!
  11. Thats interesting, because I have had various makes of HMR on the Chrono and from memory I don't think one actually made it to 2550 as they suggest, most seemed to be in the 2400-2500 range! I truly do not understand why they quote 2550 if you say they average 2703, manufacturers are usually happy to boast!
  12. And you can get some half decent wood on a CZ, my WMR American......
  13. I don't see it as a compromise between the .22 and HMR at all, in principle it stands above both and delivers more grunt in a bigger round than HMR, and is very effective on the Fox and Canada Geese, no need for..."I only ever take head shots"................... of course they work well, but foxes and Canadas fall over if you hit them anywhere vaguely important with a 30g V-Max WMR! Yes, its pretty flat, not quite as flat as the HMR. I pay £10 x 1000 more for Hornady 30g V-Max WMR than Hornady 17g V-Max HMR BLUE, the Red Hornady HMR are £10 more than the WMR! Just the same, if you
  14. Hornady 17HMR V-Max 2550 ft sec Hornady 30g WMR V-Max 2200 ft sec 500ft sec slower?????????? As regards nowhere near as accurate, I can generally get 15-20 mm groups with HMR and 20-25mm groups with WMR. Bearing in mind the extra size and weight of the WMR nothing much is going to worry about that. I certainly agree that I can't get the groups as tight with the WMR as HMR but I do not agree that they are nowhere near as accurate. The arc isn't as flat, but again its not really worth talking about the difference with these two rounds out to 100 yards, move up to the 40-50g WMR a
  15. That pal, is the correct answer! It took 5 pages to find someone who posted what i personally would consider the best reply... I have both and regularly use both depending on what i'm doing and where. But that was 6 months ago and it wasn't the question either! Of course one isn't inherently better than the other, they are different!
  16. Lapua 22 Ammo ?? Which? I have some Biathlon at 48g. Not sure they do this anymore, it's interesting to say the least!
  17. Exactly, size shouldn't necessarily come into it, it should be about topography. For example, if you ONLY had a 1 acre BOMB crater with 100 foot vertical sides you shouldn't have any problem getting a serious centrefire! If you had 100 acres of Millpond flat land surrounded by a school, town, hospital, motorways etc you may struggle to get a rimfire! It's all a bit daft anyway, and a lot is down to the shooter, after all, if you stand on your boundary it doesn't matter if you have 1,000,000 acres in one direction, you have NOTHING in the other direction!
  18. It's already been said, and if you have good reason crack on!
  19. We all shoot within our ability and the tool in our hands (or should do) and thats fine, but personally I am more than happy knocking them down with .22lr and subs at that distance, a Hornet is easy!
  20. I've got a feeling you would make the Nationals, and Breakfast TV, and 6 and 10 News! You may even get a write up in Hunting Life!
  21. As above, for the normal day to day use/borrowing I see nothing in the public interest in bringing any sort of test case. Unfortunately, if the poo really hits the fan one day and everything goes badly wrong for someone this may be tested, we are talking about debatable possibilities, and with printed guidelines it would be an interesting case.
  22. Yes.... ....... can you cut your lawn with a pair of nail scissors, another Yes. but there may be a better option!
  23. Obviously the choice is your, but remember the metalwork is the same on whichever stainless model T3, if you want laminated then fine, but it is well over £100 more than the Hunter! Neither will shoot better than the other, you are paying for aesthetics!
  24. ...a matter that has been the subject of debate for a long time in a lot of quarters, the differences in the physical product are small, some say microscopic, the legal difference is large!
