Tikka Twist Rate Help
Deker replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Any idea how old the gun is? Up to around 8-10 years ago they were 1-12 as standard, then they started making them 1-8 as standard for about 2 years and then went back to 1-12 as standard, which is where we are today with a 1-8 available special order. So, my suggestion is they have not made a 1-10 for over 10 years, if ever! Someone above has suggested they did make a 1-10, I am not aware of this, but they may well know more than me! Edit Mine is a Stainless Lite .223 1-8, I got it new about 8 years ago, if is fine with anything from 40-80g but tends to live on 50-55g SP o -
Atmospheric conditions can produce odd bullet travel sounds, frost, rain, damp, fog, etc. Try a zero target to see what is happening at the important end!

If I select the .22lr as the tool of choice over the HMR or WMR for a job the ammo will almost certainly be Winchester HP subs, I used to use Magtech HP subs but the price has gone daft. The reason being accuracy and terminal ballistics. These will be close range fox, and the massive HP has a good chance of opening well, creating a large wound tract and delivering all its energy if the fox presents with a body shot, head wise it works well too of course. Many will suggest the Eley is more accurate, at close range the difference isn't worth talking about for most people, and they are not a

Agreed, but the act of shooting a fox with a 12ft lb is not illegal, it may well, however, lead to problems under the mass of cruelty legislation we have in this country. i thought it was illegal pal A common misconception bought about I suspect by the media......... Headlines like "Mr XXXXXX was convicted of cruelty and causing undue suffering after shooting a fox with an air rifle!", may well lead people to think that. The air rifle itself has nothing to do with it as such, if he pokes his eyes out with his fingers he may also have been convicted, that doesn't make fingers ill

I note you have reigned in various comments from your post above, and how is the FAC coming on, do you have one yet, what FAC rifles do you own? You are saying everything that doesn't need saying, of course a rimfire isn't suitable in every case, did I say it was, so why do so many people say you need a centerfire, is that suitable in every case, NO! A rimfire is most certainly suitable in the cases I mentioned which reflect what the guidelines say, of course it isn't suitable as the distance stretches, neither would a centrefire be suitable for deer as the distance stretches either, but you

Come on Alsone, do you have a FAC yet? A look at page 121 of the New Home Office Guide will show you that HMR and WMR is approved for fox, and so to is .22lr in the right circumstances. Get any shot with any ammo a bit off and you will wound rather than kill, there are plenty of deer that wonder off after being shot with serious calibre rifles. People always seem to talk about fox as though you are shooting them in the next county, first off fox are easy to track and train, and commonly people know exactly where they are going anyway, so can lie in close ambush and just wait. Secon

Most people will suggest what they have, the fact is there isn't a world of difference between the moderation of most of them, but there is a world of difference of fittings/size/weight/price. The T8 does a decent job of suppression at a half decent price, but it is large and quite heavy, whatever you get, don't expect it to be much better at suppression over a T8.

P8 Moderator - Standard Vs Compact
Deker replied to Tornado1979's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
.223, .243, .308 First got this mod in FULL length for the .223 (you can see the original tube top right) then converted it after a while to the Compact, subsequently bought a Compact for the .243 and the .308. I could not tell any difference to my simple ear on the .223, either Full or Compact P8 so I'm happy. Its also fine on the .243, and I am more than happy with its performance on the .308 (its been on it about 6 years) but there is a suggestion the Full may have an edge when you get up to .308. It has done me fine on all the calibres though, and they are still near as good -
Good Luck to you Davy!

My rifles are all field tools these days, not target (although they get a lot of range use), if I can get inside and inch that works just fine for me. PRVI gives me that in .223 55g SP. I have heard a lot of decent comments about GECO but I have never tried them, at the price and performance I'm getting with PRVI I have no need to!

Life isn't that simple! The .22WMR is currently the most powerful Rimfire readily available in the UK, but some ammo runs out of energy quicker than a HMR, so the HMR may be more powerful at times at some distances. But that isn't the story. There are a lot of ammo types/weights available for the WMR, far more than the HMR, the 30g Hornady V-Max is excellent in mine, and stops everything when used appropriately. The WMR/HMR/LR will most likely kill a fox to about a mile, if you got lucky, but it is far more down to you where you put the bullet, and the bullet type as opposed to ho

:hmm: Of course you do, but there are plenty of times the fox IS close. I never understand these comments, do we always say, for example.... a .243 is suitable for a deer, as long as it isn't more than a few hundred yards away? Just what is the difference? You use any calibre/ammo within its capabilities, and there are plenty of times a rimfire is enough/more than enough, for fox!

I know stuff is different over there but is the centrefire malarkey LAW or a GUIDE? Are you saying a pest controller leaning out of a terrace house window shooting a fox in a pocket handkerchief back garden legally has to use a minimum of a .220 CF?

Pal of mine is having a problem with his 1517 gun/bolt, I have not seen it yet, he will be bringing it over in the next few days for me to take a look at, any ideas appreciated? His words.......not sure I'm following it, but its the best I have on the problem! "It appears that the top of the firing pin(?) doesn’t pop-up when the bolt is in place; if I take the bolt out and manually press it down it will then pop up again and the mechanism works and would fire one round but the problem then occurs again. Any thoughts?" Cheers

As above, Benelli (part of the Beretta Empire) have been making them for years. Definitely worth a look if you ask me, Benelli seems to bubble under the mainstream but they are not bad, and easier/quicker to clean over Berettas Gas system. But I can't deny I like my Beretta 391.......easy for us right handers though!

They have their uses, but it was many years back I last found the need for any. I have never been easy about using then in a decent gun, I don't consider the lead will harm the rifling but it may well clog it up a bit more than a bullet, so perhaps a bit of a clean. As regards a sound moderator, probably best to remove it when using these, especially if you have a long one fitted, an odd stray pellet could cause some grief. I only know of one person who uses them pretty regularly these days, and his primary use is rats round the rearing pens, he rates them, and he also has an old

Whatever bullet type/speed/energy, it is a guide and needs looking at far deeper to find your most suitable ammunition. As a generalisation, a fast/heavy/solid bullet may have a lot of energy on paper, and is likely to penetrate (over penetrate/go clean through) many animals, thus causing a relatively small bullet tract and wasting lots of energy. A less powerful hollow point is likely to expand more, make a bigger hole/do more damage and impart most if not all its energy into your quarry, (stay in). Factory energy figures in isolation are not that important, you need to look at termi

Hi It this available in Factory offerings anywhere in the UK please, or is it all DIY these days? If it is, does anyone know makes/types and where it is available? Many thanks!

Ok, hands up on this one, I have not used the 1640ft/sec., 32g version of these, just the 40g subs. The 40g were expensive and no use in mine, groups were all over the place and any sort of pressure on the tip and it used to simply fall apart whilst handling it (slight exaggeration). So, I remain unimpressed with, and don't use the 40g. 1640ft/sec is not slow for a .22lr so they must have found a way to beef up the tip over the 40g version, or I suspect it would fall apart in flight!? Is anyone else using this 32g version and if so what results are you getting? I don't hav

:hmm: What may be easy for some is impossible for others, don't be too hasty to jump in. My furthest rabbit with a HMR was 258 yards witnessed and confirmed on a range finder, another pal took one at 285 yards. These are one off shots and I would never suggest that was the norm, the circumstances and situation came together to allow these shots. I have taken many a rabbit at 160 yards with my HMR but I would again suggest that if anyone considers they need that distance regularly they should consider something more than a HMR, possibly a .17 or .22 Hornet. Most of my shots are u

Choosing The Right Rifle....
Deker replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I suspect if your friends had Tikkas, Remington, CZ etc., they would all report them as fantastic kit! -
I run 3 calibre specific P8 Compacts on my 3 centrefires. They work for me on all levels, sound reduction is as good as any. Everyone will have their favourite sound mod, usually the one they have!
