  1. Good link! I was not aware of these and in truth hardly use my old Airsporter anymore, but worth a try when my Vintage Blue Wasps run out! Anyone here actually used them, got a review/verdict? Cheers!
  2. Everyone here knows everything about optics, that's why there are so many different brands on the market and so many different types of scope and reticles. Everyone has the best scope for their gun/application, and they are all different! You have your own ideas and specification as in your OP, you also say I don't need it, but that's not the point anymore, so how can anyone tell you what is going on in your head. Then you want heavy (900g it right up there weight wise) but short, and a 30mm tube as you already have a mount, then mention a Sidewinder which as you concede is far fr
  3. Whos comparison? When I first got a HMR I went through all the ammo brands I could find and personally I to found Hornady to be the best. 10,000+++++ rounds later in the gun, I revisited my ammo box and decided it was time to use up all the half boxes of HMR I had left from those early days, the Remington, (which I concede I didn't rate first time round) as well as the Winchester, Federal, etc all shot the same (very well) in 17g V-Max type format, it was impossible to tell which came out of the barrel. Go figure, no I don't know, but I understand Alliant Techsystems (CCI/Federal)
  4. My feelings entirely when I first heard about this.
  5. Last time I looked they came out of the same CCI works as Hornady, has that changed? Allowing for any batch variation and the tip colour they should be the same! :hmm:
  6. What makes you suggest that as virtually every competition barrel is Flagpole length in every calibre you can think of! :hmm:
  7. The gene pool would be better off without these people anyway!
  8. http://www.ukgunrepairs.co.uk/ Very Good!
  9. There is not a great deal to chose between any manufacturer these days, it is more a matter of personal preference, and making sure you get a good one, regardless of make/calibre, if you are buying used!
  10. There is good and bad, and Monday and Friday guns in all makes. Many people buy a Remington (commonly the 700) to customise it anyway, so they throw lots of it away, as do many Ruger 10/22 owners. I was bombarded with warnings of doom and gloom when I bought my 700SPS Stainless in 308, I already had 2 x Tikkas and was told the quality wasn't a patch on them. Not true in my case, (mine is out of the box with simply about 3" barrel chop and threaded) and even though I have just been through the painful process of trigger recall on my Remington (even though there was nothing wrong with mine) I
  11. As cc and SS have suggested, there is probably more to this that offered here, and the police can revoke a certificate for anything they like under the heading not a suitable person, but what one region may consider worthy of revocation another may not. They need a good case to revoke an existing certificate just the same!
  12. It was meant to be light hearted.... You omitted the first bit..... They are very protected in the UK
  13. I will be very pleased to see this, the Kania (whilst effective) is expensive and I am always nervous for my fingers when setting this beast! Lol how can you be nervous for your fingers when setting the kania they are nowhere near the kill area ... Fenns are more likely to get you than a kania ........ But less likely to remove a finger if they do...I just don't like traps, I have used the Kania for about 6, maybe 7 years, that spring and bar still makes me nervous!
  14. There is no definitive answer, that will all come down to the powder/bullet/etc used! Anyone who is well into reloading will be able to give you a good idea, and you will need to talk to the manufacturers of factory ammo to get their full spec! Even then the state of you rifle will also play a part..... and everything else I have forgotten. Suffice to say for the majority of people, even using factory ammo, the difference of a barrel chop will commonly be unnoticeable, and if you are reloading you can tweek the load to make almost any compensation.

  16. He put a round up a barrel which already had a stuck bullet in it, the same could happen to any rifle/any calibre! And from what I remember he wasn't hurt, other than shock, I am not aware of any HMR ammo related injuries!! As I have said, and accept, the likelihood is it will happen more often with a HMR, and I am not defending them at all as such, there are known issues with the ammo which means users need to be alert...safety procedures/thoughtlessness ultimately lead to these sort of problems. Again, I am not suggesting that because the ammo is a problem it is acceptable and the u
  17. I have about 50 imbras that have all been revamped by a lad off here and they are very effective .... I don't use mk4's on squirrels I use a kania or a mk6 and they kill instantly ....... The Kania is evil, I have never had a survivor, but it is hardly an equal comparison to a MkIV, either power or price! Truth be known I use live trap or Kania for virtually all squirrel work these days!
  18. As per my other comment as well..... (but I don't quite follow what has happened between pic 1 and 2, they almost look like different scenes) You have explained that further and I see little or no significant difference now between that or burrow baiting! Ratty has a decent nose so I can but hope you have sited this appropriately and he will dig his way in, but making bait easily accessible to the target species is a good plan. Phil, as usual has made valid/wise comment above.
  19. Come on cc, the HMR has issues for sure, and ammo qc could be better, but seriously hurt? If anyone follows normal safety procedures, (pretty similar for any calibre/gun), then there will be no problems, and if people don't know the safety procedures they have no right to be using any gun. Now please, do not think I am belittling the HMR issues, I'm not, and anything that causes onging problems; one in particular which is never likely to be solved, is far from good and simply not acceptable. But we are where we are, semi auto HMR guns ceased production some while ago due to safety implication
  20. If you take reasonable care of them they can last a while, so most people will only need a top up, and very probably already have their own good source (that isn't always the cheapest for a variety of reasons)! Then there is logistics/shipping, where are you? Perhaps you need a few people new to the business stocking up for the first time. Good luck, good offer! What about mole tunnel traps, mine are getting a bit ragged, perhaps another 10-12 would be useful.
  21. As Matt and talpa have said there are assorted problems associated with bait applied directly to the land, but also beware...... . Problems of exposed bait trays are dew/condensation/rain/frost/snow/etc, a tray will fill up with water and create on 'orrible soup/mess, so it is important to weatherproof the area where tray is situated. Personally I'm not easy with what I see, or a bait tray in that situation. (but I don't quite follow what has happened between pic 1 and 2, they almost look like different scenes)
  22. Alsone As cc has said I don't see any case pressure problems with a .22, the case is apparently showing some stress issues in .17 I understand though. I have seen no specific scientific info on this, just hearsay, and the simple fact is, the way it's going I doubt it will hit our shores anyway, it's already about 18 months past the originally suggested UK arrival time! It may just die a death, who is actually chambering it currently?
  23. Whilst I would love to have a try of the WSM, I have to say on the face of it, and simply from what I have read....I totally agree with all of that!
  24. That's not actually true. Some of go back to a time before the plastic bait box. R started it off as a revenue generating idea. They got people to pay for 'disinfestation' and then sold them the theory of 'perimeter protection' and the plastic boxes that go with it. There is no legal requirement for 'tamper resistant' (note, 'resistant', not 'proof') boxes. The law requires you take 'reasonable' measures to protect bait from non targets. It's been well known and documented, that the safest, and fastest way to reduce rat populations with rodenticide bait is to burrow bait.
