  1. Apart from being illegal and inhumane of course The Fenn MkIV was approved for Grey Squirrel last time I looked, (has that changed?) so the Government/DEFRA don't consider it inhumane. As regards copies/fakes, I was trying to think, Fenn, Springer and Solway are approved I believe, They are all Fenn Traps by another name, there are of course some real fakes and the letter of the Law is clear on manufacturer.
  2. Agreed, but if the bait is properly monitored/administered/maintained within the box it won't be his home very long!!
  3. Do you know that is true, have you physically checked a barrel or are you relying on Derek Edgars historical comments. I am not suggesting he lied, just maybe a bit confused! Loads of people chop CZ rimfires (including me), the general feeling is they are more accurate afterwards than before, so that doesn't seem to add up.
  4. I hear what you say and that is a well known suggestion..it may be true it may not, I don't know, but wouldn't that imply all barrels start at 630mm and are cut down, so no difference in work of any at less than the full 630mm (24.75") length. Are barrels all made threaded, I think not, so the difference in price of a 20" and 16" is what, and caused by what? Marketing I think! But even if we assumed they make a few different barrel lengths, and the 16" derive from a 20" the difference in work is a saw cut, not threading or crown (that is done after barrel manufacture and
  5. How does that work with the 572mm (22.5") and 630mm (24.75") barrels then, do they glue a bit on? http://www.czub.cz/en/catalog/80-rimfire-rifles-cz.aspx
  6. A search of the web will produce many results, genuine are best, but some of the fakes are perfectly adequate depending on your overall use/requirement!
  7. Why not, the idea is to be tamper proof and species specific!
  8. I've never even seen one in the flesh, although there is a suggestion their numbers are on the increase and their population is spreading further around the UK! They are very protected in the UK, I don't know what pet shop you could get one from and trapping one will be a problem too!
  9. Live traps baited, peanut butter is almost always a winner. Get the owners to check daily and then collect and permanently remove squirrels. Fill/repair access areas afterwards. Simple.
  10. :hmm: There is no doubt that some rifles are choked, the real benefit of this has been debated for an eternity. Derek Edgar has historically stated CZ rimfires are choked ........I don't see many complaining about accuracy after chopping them!
  11. That's what I have heard, my mate had his 223 done and say's the same,i hope he is wrong trouble is you cant sell the bloody thing without the work done on it,although I hope I don't have to. I am that person and the trigger was bl**dy awfull. All of my postage costs were paid by Remington but my rifle was still in its 12mths warranty period. Oh and I waited 5 months for mine to be replaced. I have had a Jewell trigger, which is still on backorder since April (when i first got wind of the recall). The trigger which Remington replaced not repaired was so bad....it was heavy with zero adj
  12. My 6.5 came Apel mounts but I needed to replace most of the ring screws as the previous owner used the wrong sized tool on them.... £8 EACH... £64 just for the for screws! Whilst there are far more economical options available mounts are still a very underestimated part of the set up - no point spending a wad on the scope if the mounts are crap. I see your point and accept your comments entirely, but its a 455 rimfire the OP is talking about, and £64 just for the screws!? Its your choice to spend what you like! The VAST majority of people don't spend anything like that on complete
  13. Nothing has been replaced on mine that I can see, in fact I don't actually think anything has been done to it at all. The recall relates to a check, and then minor work if required, few, if any, triggers are getting replaced. In my case I am confident nothing has changed!
  14. .17 WSM? Which part of the country are you in, is this an import, where does he get ammo?
  15. It's a rimfire, the chances of anyone being able to set up a reloading facility are remote in the extreme!
  16. Initial response from RFD, circa 6-8 months ago, was that you will have to pay for your own shipping, that may still be the attitude of some, although I understand from Remington that all costs will be covered, mine were after doing battle to make sure! I hope the returns/recall process is better organised and more slick now, mine was not a pleasant experience, I get the impression they were simply not ready for it in the UK when it was announced, which has led to more than a few issues!
  17. Whilst it certainly does not mean anyone in the UK has not had experience with this calibre, it is not available in the UK. Some 2 years or more after it was announced the UK is still waiting, and general suggestion is we may have to wait a long time yet if it ever happens here at all!
  18. This is well known by many (but obviously not all), best to look for details on the Remington site! http://xmprecall.remington.com/
  19. Ok, just got my rifle back under the recall. I was without it for all but 3 months. What are other peoples experiences? Have you had problems, a good service, a quick turn round, worse turn round than me? Are you satisfied with the recall system? Personally I think it is a disorganised shambles, there is no way in the world a few minutes work should take 3 months if organised properly.
  20. I was at a shoot on Monday and it became evident the chaps were not quite as waterproof as they could be. A trip through the washing machine (gentle program, NO soap and slow spin - not recommended and you take your chances if you follow my lead) cleaned the dirt off and yesterday came the waxing job. No sooner did I start than I remembered why I hate this job, a few bramble nicks and one barded wire catch, but 5 years on from new and some pretty heavy work every season they look virtually as new again. The time and effort, a 40ml tin of Barbour Thornproof, and a seeming eternity with th

  22. No is the answer to the question! 5's have a lot of uses though.
  23. It was meant to be tongue in cheek...... ...and that isn't quite correct, unless I have missed a recent change in the law! Certainly is for all wild birds old bean, which last time i looked at the quarry list Woodcock were Last time I looked a Feral Pigeon was a wild bird!
