  1. Ok, help me out, I don't get it, what would be a better choice at close range then, why do you need a larger calibre if a .22 will kill a fox at close range? Select the right tool for the job, and on many jobs a .22lr and subs is the Right tool for the job.
  2. This goes round and round, there is lots in history here.
  3. the quarry seens realy small at this distance.................at 10x at 100 yards, try Specsavers! :hmm: So, what scope does this friend suggest? Magnification and reticles get very personal, what works for me, you, your friend, may be very different. What has not being able to see zeroing holes got to do with field work, try a spotting scope, £20-30 from Aldi. My issues with the WTC are the reticle and the set parallax, which I seem to remember is about 100 yards, very good scopes for the money though!
  4. I could do with a hand please. A very good friend of mine is having a mole problem in her garden. I need someone to have a look and deal with this mole, I think there is one, maybe two, but I'm not the best mole trapper/tracker or I would do it myself. I'm on site Sat pm (for other reasons) so may get a better idea. The plan would be to get someone who knows their stuff and solve this issue asap, I am gas certified but that will not be an option here, I need a good trapper. I am looking for a favour ideally, (although I'm quite happy to discuss a contra deal) but small amou
  5. You do not need a Cabinet. You need Safe storage, in the majority of cases that will be a cabinet, and if you elect this method of storage there are guidelines and a BS7558/92 of type/construction/etc of cabinet, but even that is not set in stone. Lets not cloud the issue here, specifically we are talking Safe Storage, not necessarily a cabinet, a rifle on the kitchen table and ammo in the fruit basket probably would not qualify. Likewise, if you have just returned/just going out to a shoot, cleaning, etc there is a legitimate reason for visible guns etc.
  6. I see nothing new in this alleged new policy, nor do I see anything worrying. "IF" more home visits/checks are made, surely all this can do is show what a law abiding section of the community we are. And if some numb nuts wants to leave guns and ammo lying about all over the place then they only have themselves to blame for their problems and for bringing the shooting community into disrespect. I am really not seeing any issues here, primarily because Nothing new is happening, no new laws have been enacted and the police have no new powers of entry.
  7. they dont acording to my fao they have to give you notice and you can refuse them entry........ Correct, please refer to my #15, what is everyone getting so excited about? I suspect it would not go down too well if you did refuse entry though, except with an extremely good reason. This is another non topic, the Police/Home Office are playing with words, put simply, Nothing has changed.
  8. What has changed here, the police have always been able to turn up and check, all that is happening now is that there is a suggestion they will do it more often. I see no changes in the law or their right of entry, what is everyone getting their knickers in a twist about?
  9. I may be able to tell you in due course. I have been invited to attend a Firearms Community Safeguarding Briefing held by the Police Preventing Terrorism Team, this is due to ........the threat level from international terrorism in the UK has recently risen to severe in response to developments in Syria and Iraq. I think that will be an interesting briefing!
  10. Personally I would agree with that, I would never consider single screw or quick release mounts, but then again I don't have to. There are those that find them acceptable/usable though, such is life.
  11. On the face of it that would seem a good idea!
  12. I get them mixed up but it was Aldi or Lidl a pal got a spotting scope for around £20-£25, cheap and cheerful but it is fine out to 300 yards; 400-500 yards on a clear day if you have good eyes. Mine is a Hawke job, got it for about £30 new in a sale, certainly worth a look around, and you really don't need to spend a fortune...so long as you don't want to see at 1000 yards!
  13. The true "Blue Peter" spirit. Good idea!
  14. There is a suggestion that you can from some quarters, somehow I struggle with this, even with an abrasive bore snake pulled unevenly I would have thought it would have taken a lot of effort over many, many sessions to mess up a crown. I remain firmly in the clean it camp.
  15. And I didn't say a wee dopey cheap scope, I said you don't have to spend £500. And I am telling you that is the case anyway! There are loads of scopes available for way under £500 that work just fine in the field, and in many cases on the range, on a rimfire or centrefire. None of these below have fallen apart, lost zero, broken, gone milky or become unusable in the dark, and I have never had to refuse a shot because of the scope. .223, .243, and .308 The most expensive here is way under £100 and they all work, the .223 scope is still available from JSR for £47,( http://www
  16. I once heard it said the world was flat. That's bollocks these days, technology and CNC has moved on a pace since early scopes, there are some excellent inexpensive scopes about today, there is no way in the world you need to spend £500 on a rimfire scope for general field use these days.
  17. Moderators have more uses than simply sound suppression, but be careful of size/weight/balance...and of course cost. Loads of people shoot without them, but in the UK we tend to quite like them, possibly because we are a small island and commonly have neighbours in fairly close proximity. You are never going to get a centrefire with HV ammo down to the noise levels of a rimfire with subs, but speaking personally I am happy with the package my mods deliver on all my centrefires.
  18. Shows what he knows then, I have a mate who has never cleaned his .222 in around 18 years of owning it, and it is still a very very accurate rifle, more rifles have been ruined by over enthusiastic "cleaning" than shooting. Makes you wonder why there is bore solvent, copper remover, brushes, rods, etc etc etc.............. apparently nothing needs cleaning? :hmm:
  19. Mixxy has never gone away in all the years it has been in this country. Feel free to tell anyone you like, but it is not a notifiable disease, and any Vet knows it is a constant threat!
  20. The thought of a Hornet goes through my mind from time to time, I have rimfires up to WMR and my centrefires start at .223, so there is approx. a 1000ft lb gap there. The logic seems the gap should to be filled, the reality is I have never found the need, there just doesn't seem anything in the UK ideally suited for a Hornet, and I have been looking for many years trying to justify one, but I can't. Now, as a one gun tool, the Hornet is quite useful, but I have a lot of others so I struggle to find the need.
  21. They have different strengths and weaknesses, that's why I have both, and a couple of .22lr as well! But as I always say............. my WMR gives me a feeling of confidence!
  22. Unless something very strange has happened, if yours says 12 on the action then you can be pretty confident it is 12. No idea about this 1-10 T3 in .223, there does not appear to be anything listed on the Tikka site about a 1-10. http://www.tikka.fi/pdf/datatables/TikkaT3Datatable2014.pdf Perhaps an email/call to GMK or Tikka will confirm if a 1-10 is/was available.
  23. Top is my WMR with standard un-proofed SAK, it has been on it since I bought it new about 4-5 years ago, its fine. Second is a Sirocco, on my HMR, when that dies (the first Sirocco did) it will get a SAK, the other 2 are .22lr, and run on SAK anyway.
  24. As you say, some of the earlier models were a joke and even dangerous. Hopefully they have learnt from their mistakes, if they have addressed the design and quality control issues then the new guns may well be ok. ATB!
