  1. I think the Queen was the last true monarch, there will be no more for me.
  2. It can be hard to get on with dogs in sheep country unless they know you or know a neighbor that knows you. Most cattle farmers are happy to have you get rid of pests if you look sane. You must have a trusting face dodger, if you come over again I'll have to come with you to get more spots, lol. It's probably easier because we have huge properties in some places.
  3. They look well from the good food and care?
  4. I had to have my old chihuahua bitch put down at almost 20 last month. They are good dogs for warning of snakes and intruders. Also one of the healthiest and loyal breeds, like miniature cattle dogs.
  5. I had Australian Silky terriers as a kid and they were great ratters and rabbiters and would bolt foxes. I then bought a Cairn terrier from a pet shop for next to nothing as nobody over here knew what they were in those days and he couldn't sell him. He would also bolt foxes but the silkies were better ratters. I cross the Cairn over my best Silky bitch and the pups were all good hunters. Not working terriers by todays standards but I caught a lot with them and spent a lot of time with them hunting as a kid from about 12.
  6. Maybe people are interested in an old exotic breed and giving it a go working, same as some people enjoy hunting with terrier breeds that are not worked much now. You wouldn't expect them to be as good as a line bred working lurcher but you might be surprised. I'd be interested to watch some of these exotic breeds at work. I also like to see the forgotten terrier breeds be given a chance.
  7. I'd believe that steve, I was living up near Taree a couple of years ago and they were having trouble with large numbers of wild dogs. Calves and even horses were being attacked. My neighbor lost 9 alpacas to dogs in one night, must have been a few dogs. It's really thick trees and scrub up the coast for them to hide in. Not many rabbits up there, my dogs only caught one rabbit in the area, an escaped pet Angora, lol.
  8. I've seen German shepherds, a greyhound, a deerhound type, also a fox terrier that was seen for 10 years or more by people surviving quite well. Not really feral, more likely dumped or lost dogs. I've seen a few different colored dingo based wild dogs. One I thought was a short haired border collie until I got close. I also saw two feral dogs attacking a loose bull terrier in the Blue Mountains near Sydney, they looked like wolves with shaggy coat and grey color., nothing like dingoes. It's wild bush up there, I think they were generations bred feral dogs and I believe they were trying to eat
  9. They do. I did a bit of roo shooting years ago on stubble right out West NSW and if you turned off the lights and stopped then hit the spotlight you would have multiple foxes up close. They would follow the ute waiting for guts and dead joeys. Not many bothered shooting foxes out there.
  10. You should do it and do it while you are still youngish. If you start too old it might be hard getting used to it. I've lived like this for a while in Oz and at 60 still going good atm. When I get too old it might be too much but hopefully I die suddenly before that happens, lol.
  11. It's probably good that less pups are being bred, hopefully the ones left are in the hands of serious hunters and while it might be harder to find one, the working ability and health will be in them. Less unsatisfied owners and less inferior dogs destined for the pound or ground.
  12. Daytime foxes are harder because they only offer a fraction of the numbers of lamped ones. Probably equal in that the lighter dazzles the dog and fox. I don't lamp now as the sport for me is bushing with the terriers and watching the mad daytime runs. In Winter here there are plenty of foxes out sunning themselves in tussock paddocks during the day.
  13. The idiot signed a death warrant for his dogs, I'd hate to try to get them out of sheep chasing after being praised for it and another coffin nail for hunting worldwide.
  14. Same around my way, the vets don't even seem to know why you want a vasectomy on a ferret.
  15. I feel sorry for the dogs having an owner like that, they deserve better.
  16. The Fonz was cool, even if he was a 35 year old hanging around with teens at a milk bar. These days he would be disowned by the Royal Family and on a certain register. Happy Days ?.?
  17. I had the same issue with some Silkie cockerels the mrs bred. Most annoying crowers. Unfortunately I forgot to lock them up one night ?and the foxes took the lot ?.
  18. Nice dog and game but too small for pigs by themselves. I've seen a 100kg boar drag five pig dogs including a pit down a hill. You might catch smaller pigs but a big boar will just run the dog into a tree and smash him eventually.
  19. Because of his great health I put him back over his mother, a small pit bitch. All the pups were really healthy, one had a short neck but still healthy. I was talking to a mate I hadn't seen for years the other day who got one of the inbred pups, a buckskin red nosed dog and he is still going strong at 17.
  20. But both have respect for the owner and come back, lol.
  21. True I don't even eat rabbit but you didn't answer my question about your dislike of the ultimate rabbit dog, the whippet. Also I wasn't talking about lamping. And whippets are quicker. Just admit your dogs are second rate on daytime rabbits, I know it will be a kick in the nuts but at least it will lighten your burden, lol.
  22. I'd rather 30 rabbits than 3 hares to feed the family. Plus, hares taste like shit ?.
