  1. Your lucky mate, a lot of areas over here don't get Winters cold enough to kill fleas. The only place I've heard with no fleas is where a mate lives in the upper Blue Mountains, he's never had to buy flea prevention. Years ago I had 12 big dogs but you could use spot on every 3 years and never see a flea but not now they're immune to it.
  2. I think it's too strong now but so are some of the new dog chews and spot on, hard to know what to use.
  3. Yeah I can't see the point of that cross when you get a better and more useful dog from grey/bulldog mating plus I wouldn't pollute the best pure bred rabbit dog, the whippet with a non hunting slow lump of muscle, lol.
  4. Cougar Bourbon, it used to be one of the cheap ones, probably why I first bought it, lol but up there with the dearer ones now. All I've drunk for the last 25 years, except for coffee, never get hung over ?.
  5. Advocate doesn't work anymore over here in Oz or not in my area, you might as well put water on them. Nexguard seems the only thing that works, in a chew form. It's getting that you nearly have to kill the dog to get rid of fleas properly, it'sa big worry.
  6. I agree. When I used to do pest control on properties with the ferrets, a few I did were isolated pockets of rabbits and they haven't come back for years. I think it's different in vast areas and they move back in pretty soon after. Also if you thin them out too much and a virus hits they are in trouble.
  7. I had to give away some really good young ferrets recently due to there being an over supply last season and nearly everyone said can I deliver them to their house. I just told them it's not a fckn pizza and got good homes that picked them up. I remember driving a 600km round trip for a good hunting pup and it wasn't free.
  8. No way Jigsaw, just grow a long beard, get black sunglasses and a gangster hat, ZZ style ?. Cool truck.
  9. Those numbers remind me of 40 years ago, good haul Gus.
  10. Not sure what that means but if it means a horrible mole you're spot on ?.
  11. I had a pure grey that was a boney, lean pup, he grew into a boney lean dog no matter how much he ate but was a very healthy dog. Got verbally abused many times walking him in town for how lean he was. Some dogs no matter what breed are just lean.
  12. Have you thought of an Irish Terrier? good family dogs, good guard dog and still kill vermin but not a pain or as highly driven as the working terriers. I've always been interested in one as a general family and farm dog but they are very pricey over here.
  13. None taken mate, it's just how I write. My girlfriend did kick me in the shins and left me over the staff incident as well, lol. I didn't like her that much anyway.
  14. They're not much better imo. A Golden retriever killed it's teenager male owner walking it on a golf course over here a few years ago.
  15. Why, a fat lab and a working cattle dog around the same size. I wasn't stepping in, they weren't my dogs. My staff killed my girlfriend at the time's lab and the staff was a third the size and on a chain.
  16. My mate's Patterdale got killed by a loose golden lab and they have attacked my little whippet crosses before for no reason. I saw one at a horse event pick on a rather large, very fit red cattle dog and the cattle dog killed it after a horrible few minutes because nobody stepped in. People buy them as placid family dogs, lol, give me a pit any day for that job. The pet labs I've seen are fat, useless trouble makers and one dog I'd never want to own.
  17. You could try something for his joints but it could be anything at that age. Eight is a good lifespan for ferrets, probably over 100 in human years so you have looked after him well to get him there.
  18. Could be arthritis or maybe a spine or nerve injury but 8 is a pretty good age.
  19. Welcome Gill, you should get on well here ?.
  20. I agree with this in that you are degrading the breed for it's original purpose but most of the champions are very closely bred and this is what causes problems with the dog's temperament as a all round dog as well imo. I do understand what you are saying about this and don't make out my dogs are superior in that regard. The ultimate examples are often a dog destined for life on a chain and that's ok if that's what you are into.
  21. The buckskin bitch was at the top was from imported stuff and by far the best natured dog I've ever owned. I used for her hunting and she was the ultimate family dog as well. The red dog is just street bred but also 100% a loyal family dog of my daughters. It's the way they are raised and who raises them. You say you don't trust them, well that could be why you don't, you are putting negativity into the animal and a dose of fear. i appreciate your experience with them but all I know is what I've experienced, a very stable and trustworthy animal from the whelping box to the grave at a good age.
  22. Your average pits but try getting near the family.
