Don't know much about deer dogs but experienced pig dogs always pick out the biggest boar of the mob without training. I used to use my little 20kg pit bitch to catch feral goats for dog food a couple of times a week. I'd be by myself and she'd always run past decent size nannies and catch huge billies in awkward spots so I'd have to cut the goats in half to carry them out, lol.

My smooth coated Parson bitch has very little scarring from rats and she never shakes them, just slowly crushes them, weird style but the rats hardly ever bite her, not sure why. My old male rough coated Parson is covered in scars and shakes the shit out of the rats but he's done a fair bit of other hunting as well. Scars suit these little warriors of the dog world, you should embrace them, lol.

The thing is, I doubt any country's people are in love with immigrants, including mine but carrying around hate and blaming them for every crime all the time is only making you miserable and is not going to make them go home at all. We don't get long on this earth so we should make the time as happy as we can.

I just wash the dogs faces with salt water after ratting to stop infection but I'm wondering why you are worried about ratting scars on a terrier if hunting rats is legal where you are in the US? Imo scars make a terrier and it's not penalized even if you show your dogs, at least not in Australia.

I remember a pretty knowledgeable terrier bloke over here telling me about 3 dogs killing a postman in the UK, I think it was in the 80's. He reckoned they weren't APBT's or staffs but were small fighting dogs around 7kg's. Were these from the original bulldogs before they were sent to America to become the APBT? I don't know if any of you blokes know about this but it was an interesting story.

Yes and like my whip/stag it's often that bitches become the pack leader, such as with most of our wives, lol. Because when getting a pup I always look for the most forward one, usually a bitch, I have had trouble with them as they mature, all trying to lead but all the dogs respected and liked the whip/stag when she was around and were on their best dog behavior.

As you know, only dead dogs are truly dead game so you can only breed for deep gameness to produce the dead game dogs. I don't know what percentage are curs but on those tight lines, I think not many and way less than scatter bred dogs.
-
Half the dogs in the vid could probably kick it's ass. My old Whippet/stag would often break up fights between the terriers and even our pit/bulldogs. It's not about fighting or who's tougher or bigger, its just a good leader keeping the pack in order with it's mind.
-
Back on the gameness, a dog winning matches might not be that game at all. It could just have a crushing strong bite and good style but if it's matched against another dog with those qualities plus gameness, it will lose. I think that's why gameness is bred for first in these dogs.

I grew up around SP bookies and big gamblers but risk everything, get rich quick sounds like Scarface and it can end very badly.

Lol, I'm glad I never bought a ticket.

Only tough guys own whippets, lol, you'll be fine.

Some people do get upset as the mrs showed me on facebook of people carry on about the cruelty of terriers catching rats, lol. I really hate these idiots and when they get Lepto from their vermin ridden homes, or rats, mice chewing wiring in their house or car they might change their tune. Total fwits.

I'd put the money into buying land as a longer term investment and as said you could maybe make income renting it. A couple of days ago in Sydney here, 6 car spaces sold for 3.65 million dollars for the 6. I'd imagine land would be even more in demand in the UK and it's going to get more in demand in a short time.

Good on him, I think hunting is in our DNA and it's good for kids to understand we need to control vermin around the place and to always do it humanely as possible.
-
Congrats Arry, all the best to you and family.
-
I doubt you'd get anything as good as the champion chance bred freak from using it for breeding, that's why these dogmen concentrate on and highly value dogs from proven lines.
-
I sort of agree but freaks are obviously one offs and not much use in trying to breed them thinking they will duplicate themselves. Some of the best dogs were out of nothingy bitches but they had good lines behind them. You couldn't take pride in owning a freak that you bred, you were just lucky.
-
Sub standard compared to what? So you would cull every dog that didn't beat Going Light Barney in his day. Thank the lord you don't train human boxers, lol. Not every dog is a grand champion and we all have our bad days when we are not 100%.

I only know him from on here with his great knowledge and experience of hunting dogs and his gentleman like poetic writings. A great loss to his family, all dogmen and the whole world. I always looked up to him as a great ambassador and voice for serious hunters. I'm truly gutted with this sad news. R.I.P Phil.

Sorry about your dog mate. R.I.P Sam.

I kept APBT's for over 30 years and I wouldn't leave my kids alone with them, same with any powerful breed, that's neglect. They were around my kids but I'm very watchful and aware of a dog's mood and acted on this when needed. I also taught my kids to respect all animals at all times.
-
I think it's a good thing. Most people don't have the experience or knowledge to keep these dogs and it's the dogs that suffer most. I agree they have great temperaments when treated correctly and I raised my kids around them in the house. They are too much as hunting dogs on dangerous animals imo, just too game and that leads to too many injuries. The English bull is far more popular over here for hunting crosses, enough balls for the job without being over the top. Best thing that happened to the breed for it's sake is it's decline in popularity.
