  1. Ditto to Mac`s advice. Paul save up a little longer mate and check out the HW 100 range - they are outstanding. atb.
  2. Looked over my zero and adjustments scope figures on my HW 100 ks .22 and my HW 100 kt .177 at x 8 mag. HW 100 KS .22 zero 28 yd 35 yd 1 md h/over 40 yd 2 md h/over 45 yd 3 md h/over 50 yds 4 md h/over. HW 100 KT .177 34 yd zero 30 yd perfect zero (within 1 inch) 40 yd perfect zero (within 1 inch) 45 yds 3/4 md h/over 50 yds 1 md h/over So shooting and threading a shot through spindle branches the 30 yds to 40 yds zero of .177 speaks volumes. Place the cross hairs of .177 on target and expect to hit the target. Shooting the same distances in .22
  3. Would that thumb be in .22 or .177 ? You get "far better penetration" with a .177 Rez atb
  4. Well done Mac, nice shooting Have you removed all that warm oil from that legendary thumbhole now ? atb
  5. Nice write up Chris Compliments on your shot placement.
  6. Shooting ftm Have you tried squirrel in the pot yet ?
  7. Nice job Q I too detest rats.
  8. We might disagree mate but that does not mean others might. A good debate atb
  9. I`m with Charlie Caller here - when a wood pigeon presents a heart/ lung shot through trees, branches or spindle i have "no hesitation" in taking that shot with the .177 calibre as it smashes through the breast bone and through the heart, lungs and exits. I will not use .22 for pigeon heart/ lung shots, - head and between the shoulder blades yes. I own two HW 100`s one in .22 and one in .177. The .22 is never out of the cabinet.
  10. I don`t want a row thanks , each to their own on the caliber question. .22 and 177 are every bit as accurate as each other on "open ground",(if you know your mill dots) in woodland, open and dense areas, .177 (for me) as the flat trajectory allows far better accuracy threading your shot through branches and spindle etc. If we look at springer v pcp - (ive stated this many times), "Does it matter" if a pcp or a springer makes you a better shot ? I have noticed a lot of guys have an affinity with spring rifles,- fine by me if it makes you shoot more accurately.
  11. Welcome to the tribe Jay, - i think your slate is lovely and clean now. You will become an extremely good air gunner if you take the advice given by the lads. "Well done lad with the apology" i very much respect that. atb (all the best)
  12. I remember the farmers sons catching two poachers one Christmas when we were earning some xmas money plucking turkeys as kids. The poachers got pasted good style in the farm yard. They never bothered the farm again, - old fashioned yes, did it work ? - oh yes ! Crip the farmer would have said " Yes and thank you for your concern of my farm"
  13. Isn't it the other way round... No Rez - the hard whack of a .22 makes up for being slightly off target. I find .177 absolutely clinical on precise shot placement. Again - through branches and spindle.
  14. I was once told - .22 cal makes up for those people who cant shoot with true accuracy (oh no here it comes) atb
  15. Compliments on the shot placement Secret A M, lovely looking rifle too mate. atb
  16. I prefer to lye prone for corvids at troughs with even my rifle camo`d up on a bi- pod , my back/ legs under some camo netting, hands, body, legs,- every part of me under camo` and then in and amongst the hedgerow.(gillie suit would be ideal). Sun behind you. Make sure you are in your hide "before" the feed is put in the troughs as the corvids will see farmer Giles leave and think the coast is clear as they cant count after one . When the sheep first feed you will notice the corvids will hang back and walk the grassland close by, - shoot them then, you will get a go
  17. Any of the calibers shot accurately will more than do the job. My preferred caliber is .177 (by a country mile). atb
  18. I would stay in the hide for the day Ciaran. Use a couple of dead Magpies mounted on cradles with a dead rabbit at their feet with the entrails out and about. Use whichever rifle you shoot best with,( or take both),also make very sure your very well camo`d up (head, face, hands especially) and aim for head shots only. Whenever i am short of a dead decoy or dead rabbit i will simply use three broken eggs and or bread slices, then introduce a shot corvid or two on cradles. Good luck - let us all know how you get on
  19. One handsome rifle there Darkdd. Good hunting Monday
  20. Stay well away from a BSA Lightning mate and as said go HW. atb
  21. Hi Pepper, all, I`ve been/still an avid air gun hunter of 45 years +, there is nothing out there that can get close to any of the HW 100`s in there price range and twice their price range albeit the BSA ultra se regulated in 2nd place. I can count on one hand the number of times i blank in each 4 months of hunting and it wasn`t the guns fault, atb
