I had a terrific teacher, Des Swords, who taught us chemistry, and was a stand-in history teacher. He had a great shock of curly black hair, and a love of wearing green corduroy suits. He was witty and patient but, instead of just trotting answers out and teaching "parrot fashion", he'd encourage us to think things through and work things out for ourselves. A great teacher and a good man. Sad to think that he's probably dead now....... At the other end of the scale, my metalwork teacher was an utter c***. Couldn't even be bothered to learn anyone's name, so he just called everyone

Maybe there would be more concern if the growing web of surveillance was commoner knowledge ? But I guess you don't advertise covert surveillance........ I only heard about facial recognition because, while 2 million people were lapping up Jeremy Kyle, Silki Carlo was on The Wright Stuff the other day !

I'm much more concerned about things like this........... https://bigbrotherwatch.org.uk/all-campaigns/face-off-campaign/ While we're distracted by Trump's alleged dalliances and Royal weddings, the surveillance net grows ever tighter..........and nobody seems to care. The technology doesn't work terribly well just now, but that will change, and facial recognition cameras will allow "the authorities" to track our movements, in real time, without our knowledge.

England fans at the upcoming World Cup are being advised NOT to to display the English flag, as it may be seen as "imperialistic" and "antagonistic", a senior police officer has said. Some professor somebody or other was on the radio this morning, about this. Apparently, if you're younger, you'll hear Yanny, and if your older, Laurel (generally). Some people have apparently reported different words on different types of radio...... It was done as an experiment into neural processing..........or something ! Yanny, by the way !

I used to work in a mortuary, so I came across some horrendous odours ! Think of a body that's been dead for a few weeks, and falls apart when you move it - absolutely horrific ! I've seen bodies so badly decomposed that they weren't much more than a stain on the ground.............. Death has its own distinct odour, and you never forget it, but you do get used to it. What you've experienced is a kind of "nasal image", and other smells will trigger the memory, for a while - it goes away, in time.
