  1. Seen a pair of these today, no not working dogs, these were most deffinatley kc showey stuff but it had me wondering, especially as there is a big surge in adding Beagle into various types of bushing dogs, has anyone, would anyone use a working Bassett, or add it to the mix..? Oh yer, whilst we are on the subject, though this section is for hounds, by the same token, how about the Clumber Spaniel? Thicker sett, heavier and slower, if there are still good 'uns about, how would these fit in. To me, the right type of either could be just the ticket? Food for thought... Your opinions pleas
  2. The two options I use are, either, take (saw or burn) all the lugs off and file smooth, so you just have a disk, then add one strip of black insulation tape right around the rim, mostly on the inside so it just comes up on the outside. This creates a snug fit that doesn't clatter when removing or re-fitting. Or, heat one lug near the rim, soften and bend outwards, this way creates a good handle for a 'snatch off' and should go back on easier too, though not as quiet as the first. Hope that is of help.
  3. cring shame it clashes if your not going the edrd go to this one GOOD LUCK LADS Yep mate, it's a real shame. Though, to be fair, Peover have held the same weekend for many years now, it's edrd that's changed and, if i'm honest, i'm gutted, was really hoping to see plenty of this (THL) lot at edrd this year but, you feckers will have to wait, i'll stand by the club and head out to Cheshire with 'Legs and Co' and console meself with a new pair of wellies whilst i'm there (hopefully, with our club discount!).
  4. Enjoyed reading that Dances, you write very well, as others have said, keep it up... Oh yer, an I learned sommat from that, never heard of an 'umbra' before, never heard anyone else use it either!
  5. Pm Collie/Grey off here, she's got a pup of that type, very well bred too, a bonny pup! Look for the thred on it.
  6. I've always been the opposit Chris, i've always started mine on bunnys and always they've brought 'em back live, then when starting them on rats or anythin that bites back, they know the difference. Though, each to their own.
  7. Ratted with just about every cur that'd take to it Stabba, Westies, Cairns, Yorkies an Alsation, Labs, Spaniels, Bull Terriers, Collies and various of pedigree unknowns. But as has been said, using a lurcher alongside the terriers really does improve your bag and Moll's pics certainly proove that. Had some good fun with just the lurchers too. Not far from where I live now was a huge landfill site, Sefton tip, right next to Altcar estate. Many a time if we got fecked off Altcar we'd head over the tip (we had a spade an bar stash there, as my old man worked on the tip) and spend a morning ra
  8. Very much reminds me of a dog I once knew
  9. If it's a part of your life Baldock, then there is always time. I'm writing this with a brew (an a bikky) after putting in 4 hours in the garden on hedges an lawns, the dogs had an hour over the fields before I started. They'll have at least another tonight. Back to work on earlies tomorrow but the dogs times out wont change. Two things i've done to ensure I get as much out of my dogs as poss is, firstly continue to work shifts, even though I could work a 9 to 5, that way I can get the best of days and nights out through the year and second, moved hell and high water to live out in the sticks
  10. Something I've seen a few times when I was a youngster, something you don't see much now. Funny, my brother came over for a visit last week and we walked to a spot we hung out as kids and he asked if I remember the bloke who came by one day with three well worked terriers and a pet fox. I did, and remember how that fox was jumping all over those dogs, wanting to play, the dogs on the other hand only had eyes for graft and were doing their best to ignore the fox. Now with an older mind, I belive that 'wild things always should be wild'... Some circumstances can change that though, but in a
  11. Thats a bonny bitch pup CG, like the mix in there too, someone will do well with her. Best of luck.
  12. Has anyone else read "The Sett" a novel based on true characters by Ranulph Fiennes? Cheers, D. Yes mate, I have it here. Certainly some of it is true, I knew one of it's characters quite well but it paints a very dark picture of terriermen. As the book moves off this subject I enjoyed the read more.

  16. I agree with Simoman,if you intend continuing to be around dogs you just got to get straight back in the saddle,so to speak......a bad attack will effect different people in different ways.....i was involved in a very nasty attack a long time ago,my mindset was to accept it was a freak occurence from 1 bad dog.....the next few weeks being around dogs was nervy but the confidence soon builds up again and it does infact leave you with better skills at reading situations... Physically wounds heal hopefully with no lasting damage, mentally it can take longer if you allow it to get the better of yo
