Seen most crosses kill foxes, plenty of Deerhound and collie type dogs, a few Saluki's, though predominantly Lurcher to Lurcher bred dogs, get a good 'un and it really can do the job.

Got Lithium and extra Striker... (It's too posh for me, i'm shit scared to use it!) New coat, which means I can now downgrade one of me older ones for lamping. Most important of all, i've mentally conditioned myself that my dog is a usless failure, which makes any success this season a huge bonus.. Just a new pair of wellies to get.

Your right mate but I did with my post too... -
ratting perhaps? dont own one myself, my own hob is at the other end of the scale (big fat fooker, lol) I tend to agree with Rob, in that I kept and worked ferrets for 25+ years and never seen the need for tiny ones. A nice sized, fit (conditioned) jill would get anywhere. These were what we used for ratting too, anything too small could take a pasting from either rat or rabbit. I only see the need for 'micro' ferrets, the same as I see the need for fancy colours in ferrets...££££. Maybe I've been out of the game too long and things have changed..

Been at it over 30 years, from ratting at about 10, to lamping from about 14. Don't do all I used to, who could? Back then I walked everywhere or used public transport, for lamping it was the last bus out and first bus home, trains the same for a night over the Wirral foxing. Long days, full days too, on whatever. Even in summer, try hitchhikeing to Llangollen, from Liverpool with a lurcher & terrier in tow... I got there! Passed my test at 17, on a Friday, that Sunday I was digging in Shropshire (crazy days). Then came those long halls, scouring the whole country for different qu -
Nope, but there was one about 'em all being thawed out...

I had a Lakie years back that killed with a throat hold, seen him use it in railway drains a few times, seemed to have a knack for it that didn't see him take much stick, he used it for about three seasons. Came unstuck one day and took a face full, never went back to that throat hold, just waded right in forever after, still killed 'em but would end up a mess every time. Thing is, his mother always killed foxes by wading right in, and his father on the few occasions he killed in, used a throat hold.

Was a british series done a few years back by the lot that done League Of Gentlemen, Blackpool, it was called. Dark and strange is it's best desription. Wouldn't usually be my thing but it had me hooked.

There hasnt been a lurcher writer since who could match him for word-craft,granted his tales stretched the truth elastically but were very readable,he probably got more guys interested in the lurcher game than any other since. You know what Mackem, your probably right.. Which wasn't always a good thing..!! Yep, fav books; Nathan, Plummer - Not a lurcher book but a damn good tale. Fell Terrier, Plummer - As above. Rougues & Running Dogs, Plummer - The first I read. World of the Working Terrier, Harcombe - Informative & honest. Christ, of all the books out t

Betcha he won't do anything from Trick of The Tale, Wind & The Wuthering, And then There Were Three, Duke, Abacab etc..! Motown... Plenty out there who do it better..

I'd agree with Duckwing, there's usually plenty to tell... I've had my fair share but the worst i've seen was with a mate of mine on a pre-ban foxing night. Bad night, put the miles in and only one fox to show for it. Decided, against our better judgment, in the early hours to try a local speck, a park. Anyways, lamp on, few foxes about, backs to the railings and call. Two are flying in but one of 'em's coming so quick it's on a feckin motor bike! 'Slip'...! But the dogs ain't gone, he's somehow caught himself up on the collars! Fox is almost on top of us and he lets go. Fox does a li

Ain't my 'cup of cha' that type of vid, would have liked to have seen those first runs left as they were filmed, with just one half run in normal film at the end, music was a fecking drag too.. Damn shame...!

Wilf's posts I always enjoy, usually ripping the back out of someone, for the right reasons, no one has better put downs! Watch out for those other posts too, because he has more common sense than most and does the right things by his dogs. Stabba, knows his dogs, simple as, walked the walk too, says plenty in the easiest way, 'nail on the head' type stuff. Stabs, has some fantastic write up's that are always worth a read. Skycat & Sandymere, for all the sound, good advice. Romany and Chalks for their photos, though I always wish the'd both contribute more in the lurcher se

Thats a cracking offer Skycat, well done you! Jamie, that'd be an offer and a half, you really wouldn't regret that, be the best start you and your dog could get.

25+ years ago I dug with a lad who had two Smooth Fox terriers, good dogs, good finders, both would stay all day, the dog didn't mind a bit of stick either. Both were very good ratters too, the bitch being one of the best i've seen, one of only two dogs i've seen that would swim underwater to catch their rat, like a fecking Otter. As for those old bent legged white dogs (back then they were Russells but is that still the case...?), i've dug to some crackers and looking back, this type always seemed to be kept by fellas who only had the one dog. I miss this type, suppose it reminds me of my

Stevie, this type of battery was the first used when laming was in it's infancy. Back then lampers were recognisable by the holes in their jackets and trousers, (never mind the skin rashes), caused by the spillage of acid. Times changed and when dry cell batterys came on the market they were used, the impovements were vast, we are now moving ever so slowly (because of the price) over to Lithium. The old lead acid did a job but for the cost of a decent dry cell you'd get years of shining out of it with none of the problems of the old motor bike ones. You pays your money and takes y
