Swampy You're soooooooo correct. Especially in regards to the lack of class and reverse snobbery. I realised before I made the OP that the Neanderthal types would never manage to grasp the basic concept. Those over shot brows and dragging appendages come with a heavy burden on the intellectual front.Perhaps that might help explain their propensity to wear chavy-cammo everywhere they go. I'm astounded that we've achieved the level of gutter language responses that we have. I was expecting little more than simple grunting and chest beating. Sorry, enough of the derisory mocking re

From what i've seen, the best examples of this case come from first cross terrier bred dogs BUT in both cases Skycat mentioned, one works like a demon and the other still catches at 9 (and i'll betcha that dog has had some graft!). What i'm trying to say is, please don't over-judge your pup! It is only a pup and you've got a long way to go yet, plenty of time to develope and change and there is far more important things to look out for along that way! I've seen some of the most 'unlikely' lookers be the best of grafters, and yours has a long way to go yet! Enjoy...!!!

The two most important factors Buster are, what he want's it for, so he can determine if its a half, five eighths or three quarter, that'll do what he needs AND that it's from well worked stock, on both sides, plenty of poor grade stuff out there, so make sure both parents are doing the job he want's his for. Do the homework and all will be well... well said mate......... one of my sons wi his bully......lol Cracker!... 'Ye can't beat a bit 'o Bully'
-
Yep mate, don't doubt that, but what he needs to think about is what and how he potentially wants to hunt with it? Because that will determine as to what cross he'll need. No need to post it on here, you can always drop me a pm

CONWY VALLY HUNT SUPPORTERS SHOW
Bosun11 replied to gonetoearth's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Now if that ain't the best line up of terrier judges in many a year, I don't know what is..!! More reason why this show is so well attended by so many with excellent dogs! Like I said, make a date for it next year, and bring more genuine workers!! -

CONWY VALLY HUNT SUPPORTERS SHOW
Bosun11 replied to gonetoearth's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
What a very enjoyable show, very very well run, the standard of dogs there was excellent. If anyone hasn't made this one, then make a note of it for next year. GTE, Tracy & all the Conwy lot really put the effort in and it was well rewarded with a great field, if only they all could be like this one. Good to see SS & Grinder and finally meet Bird & Fencehopper, plenty of genuine folk there... Oh yer, did see one face I ain't seen in many a year, good to see him back at a show -
thanks mate, if you go come over and have a look at Tod, i think you will like him, look forward to it and give Bryn a pat lol Aye mate, can't leave him out!! (You know Ray.. Thing is, i've kept my type of dog for a long time... But i'm far from breed blind.. I'm a Lurcher lover and whatever the type, as long as it does it's job, it's right by me.) Hope to be there Sunday...
-
Ray, missed this post earlier and that is tough on Bryn but your long enough in the tooth to know that them horses can be dangerous. I always give 'em a wide berth. Hope your dogs ok? Maybe see you there Sunday for a gab, hope so, would look forward to that.

Who has / needs the best terriers ??
Bosun11 replied to Bootsha's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Theres more freelance type lads about thats all, not loads of lads who keep a terrier for our own pleasure have to worry about when they are blowing for terriers and want matey out and away double quick because the field is waiting. .As I said, in my very uneducated opinion you are talking about two different animals If that opinion is uneducated, then its bang on the money Yep, far to many variables in each half to give a simple 'yes or a no' to either. For me it's this, your hunt terrierman (paid or not) sees his dogs as the tools to his trade, many only require their dog -
If that came from you Sandymere it is very well written and certainly food for thought, very prophetic, especially the last few lines... Thank you for posting

I've seen the best and worst of dogs in both camps Baw. What your saying is that if your unemployed you 'should' have more time but I really don't think thats always the case. A good dogman is determined both by the time he puts in and the quality of his work with the dogs he has, employed or not.

I dont get it you've lost two dogs and had another laid up for who knows how long and you still think its a good idea your dogs crash hedges in the dark. Thats in over 28 years of lamping Undisputed. One of those dogs lost was due to a tree trunk laying at the bottom of the hedge, hidden by cover. The other was a rip that went wrong, even though the vet did all he could, and the eye was a branch of Blackthorn that was standing proud. Accidents can happen with anything, i've seen more lost to ditches than hedges over the years and there's plenty more hazards to contend with too. I'v

Good news mate, glad to hear that. Just remember, ain't no rush for you or him, let him fully mend and careful in a couple of days, because he'll think he's ok and try and bounce about, pulling on them stitches. Keep him tight.

The Belstone Fox... (if i remember right?)

Bosun , the bounty was 35pence a tail when work was a bit tight so it was handy , who was the lad from your area, unreal the numbers at the time , thats when say on here lads had 100 a night , people wont have it , but they did on numerous occasions , but never mind , there is a surge in rabbit population this summer , we always have plenty but a lot more than normal , so will have some fun this winter lamping/ferreting . Jimmy K, the Liverpool bloke mentioned in the first Plummer book.

It's a place I've always fancied to visit, I can remember when there was a bounty on rabbits, early eighties i think, and a noted local lurcherman went over never to return. I get there one day.

Feck me Tom, if you find it heavy to wear, who the feck wouldn't?? Plus, I wouldn't fancy having to break into a run with it on, some serious damage could be done there!! It's a fine and unusual thing though, best of luck with the sale

In the main Dotty, they ain't, but there are always the odd exception and if used, can deal with anything this country has to offer. Would I take that gamble though..

I'd totally agree with you points mate, your dead right IMO. Though, if anyone has (and I can see those who have..) got a decent grafter of an EBT then why not use it, like I said, mine worked like a fiend, the right type is more than capable..! And to those who's lurchers are out of this type, great, I hope your dogs work well for you, like I said I knew of a cracker, a 'genuine' dog, one i'd have loved to own.
