  1. that dog was not under full and proper control. i did some work as a stooge with lancashire police some years ago, and to be honest most of them are not good dog men, they are men with dogs. big difference. you might be surprised how often this sort of thing happens, police dogs basically out of control and biting willy nilly. mostly they get away with it because they are dealing with drunks. oh and by the way, a lot of the dogs which were too hard during training, or showed a preference for biting high(jumping up to pull down by the face or neck) were never allowed onto the streets but we

pete, i think it is like a franchise, in other words the rspca have allowed them to use their name to fundraise etc and in exchange they have to follow certain rules set by the rspca (god only knows what those rules are). i dont think its a legal licence of any description, but then again the way things are going anything is possible.
  6. a bull terier or an owl?
  7. not far from shipham in somerset there used to be a fella bit like this. there was a bit of an old verge, down a tiny single track lane, and about a dozen old wrecked cars were scattered about, this old wild looking chap would sometimes emerge from one, looking like half troll half caveman, and about 20 assorted dogs would come howling up out of the others if you stopped there. plus hens, the odd goat etc. used to pass by now and then when i was down that way on visits. went past in the end and the whole lot was just gone, like none of it had ever been there
  8. i think a heavy saturated collie-type, expected to find, hunt and catch its own prey, a variety of fur and feather in different ground (woods, marsh, hill) probably takes longer to learn all the little wrinkles, and wont reach its prime until probably 3, but will often be good till 8/9 as it doesnt rely on its speed so much (just as well reaally, as it wont have much!) at least, that has been my experience, it probably depends on how much work it gets as much as anything else.
  9. in my opinion any mustelid would eat the whole of something that small (except possibly a weasel), i'm not sure about a crow's method of feeding but i have often seeen them pull pigeon squabs from the nest then hammer them on the back of the head to kill them so possibly a crow. but for me the leading culprit is definitely a rat. had one get in with my quail years ago, and all had the heads eaten and nothing else.
  10. long ago in another life i met bob hoskins, he came to my work place for some kind of marketing or promotion, and rather than jump in the limo and bugger off as soon as he was done he spent a good half hour or so chatting with the lads on the shift. he was doing the BT ads at the time, and one of the lads thought he was incredibly funny and original shouting out "its good to talk". bob turned and looked at him as if to say "if there werent cameras here i'd rip your f***ing head off", and kept staring until the lad shuffled off embarassed. good old boy, RIP

    Diane Abbott

way back when she was a london councillor (lambeth i think) it was clear that she was playing on her colour to get inner city votes, but all the time she was simply self-serving, and feathering her own nest with the support of the enormous black vote. and when she went into parliament, alongside those other crooks like bernie grant and keith vaz, the black voters still didnt see through her. personally, i consider her to be one of the most despicable people in parliament, and thats saying a lot as there are none of those b*****ds i have any time for
  15. nice story pete. some years ago i was walking home after work one evening across the meadows and stopped to watch a pair of stoats hunting. i gave a little squeak and they came dashing towards me at full speed, stopped about 10 feet away, looking for the source of the noise. i had been mucking out cattle sheds all day so my scent was pretty well masked, and as i was standing absolutely stock still, there was nothing to scare them. i gave another tiny squeak through my lips, and feck me if the pair of them didnt whip straight up my boot, up my trousers (the outside!!!) and start up my coat! all
  16. thanks nipper, hes been bidding on some but the competition is quite fierce
  17. a mate of mine phoned me earlier trying to get hold of some grey partridge eggs. his daughters school hatch half a dozen chicken eggs in an incubator each year so the kids can watch them hatch and grow up, so this year my mate suggested partridge eggs instead, and teach the older kids a bit about british wildlife as well as the incubation thing. the school are in favour, as long as he can provide the eggs, and thereby hangs the problem. any suggestions where he should start to look? he is not far from me in bedfordshire and is happy to travel a reasonable distance, but not too far (about an ho
  18. microchips can migrate internally, they can sometimes fail, and if they are inserted subcut then yes you may be able to feel them and cut them out. BUT your vet ( if he is any good) will be ebale to inject the chip straight into the nuchal ligament ( we do this with a lot of our livestock) and then not only is it very unlikely to migrate, but also impossible to feel, so even if you can scan it you will be unable to locate depth etc so to remove it becomes a big job. obviously , they are no use if the dog doesnt get found. but any dog handed in to rescue, police etc will be scanned straigh

  23. ive heard the thing about some sort of toxin within grape seeds (and therefore raisins too) but i have also read that firstly you have to actually crack the seed for the toxin to get out, and secondly that a dog would need to eat an enormous amount to get a measurable amount. eithe way, i never had any problems feeding the odd grape and i never heard of any dogs getting ill from grape-related issues?
