Help With Pup Hanging Onto Lead On Walks
terryd replied to Kay's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Mine was the same kay part way through a walk he would just go nuts for no reason and start pulling like mad on the lead and to be honest you couldn't do much with him. Like said use a chain or just give some thing else to hang onto but to be honest mine grew out of it as well. They settle down when they are about 4 -
Running A Pup- How Much Is Too Much?
terryd replied to polonose00's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Enjoy puppyhood time flies and before you know it will be all grown up. Steer the pup in the right direction behaviour wise. That is what I wish I had done . There is no rush on the work front -
Very nice I like that breeding. Sure you will enjoy bring him up

I have to be honest at one point I did try and swap onto raw and started feeding 50/50 chicken mince and dry to wean him onto it. But he lost condition and for the first time ever had a dull dry coat. Admittedly I probably done it wrong and he needed more variety on the raw side. So I just got back on dry. He looks great so no point messing about

Yes mate I do a lot of bushing at the minute with my other to spaniels and she's really coming along nice, that's exactly the reason I got her I haven't got her to be in and out of digs week in week out it's just when I get out for a days bushing and something drops to ground I've got a dog there and I can get the b*****d out, I don't dispute for one second that she isn't going to do the job from what I've seen so far but a lot of it is just the if she's been on a fox scent that's all it's been so if I went to a dig I think it would help sort of put a face to the scent as such if you know what

My dog looked well on that for a few years. The odd stool was a bit lose though and he all ways gets a few tins of fish per week swapped him onto Arkwrights last year and his stools are better now for the most part. He does have a bit of a sensitive gut though. If I were to give him a big bone it would wreck him Mine currently on gain 28 at the moment come march I will switch back to Shepard's choice again. yea the cocker has been on shepard all his life and 11 now and flies around like a nut and looks fine

Out of interest when your walking about with it off lead is it getting its nose down and hunting about for stuff like rabbits etc. That is what I would be doing. I never used to be a just fox fella and the couple of JR I had initially were worked lose and just worked there way up the quarry list and when they were ready they just dropped in to a fox and away we went. Then if I wanted to just go foxing they were leaded up. But doing it that way just nurtured there hunting and if they wanted to go to ground they could and if they didn't they didn't. If a dog is smashing through cover hell for

Thats the way more work now the less to do in the spring. Really should try it my self -
When you think she is ready just keep showing her a hole or two and when one is at home away she will go hopefully. Might be bit harder that way but worth the effort and learn more too. They are naturals or not

Great start lance credit too you for your work and now the dog has started right it will hopefully continue very true mine tried to shag the first rabbit he caught he got tad over excited and not much has changed

make a trap using one them blue barrels have a look on YouTube how to make one really simple my mate has one in his car garage gets a few rats a week in it. Would save you the f**k on getting or making a smoker. Any rats in the barrel on a morning just drop the ferret in the barrel problem sorted not sure bout the last bit John old ratty packs a punch when cornered

Amazing that worked out that way and 10/10 for your efforts. Bet the dog is bloody happy and don't let him go again lol
-
Loads of potential there bet you could turn that dog to any thing you wanted. Enjoy bringing her up

Yea my old jill is the same loves her kibble. Just what they used too I guess. Two kits on the other hand destroy any meat they love it and just throw biscuits all over the floor

You do have to manage your spots a bit even though your at the mercy of mixi. I had a little perm and when my dog was 2 I could go there with the lamp and knock 3 or 4 over nearly every time. Easy access and perm so i could go early it was just to easy to get lazy and instead of walking the dog just wait till dark and have a run or two. The place is empty now so lesson learnt there. They all count

My old Patt nailed a Westie when he slipped his harness and came over all aggressive. Patrick was on his lead My big yellow girl hates them with a passion. Tries hunting them. But next doors one used to get into our garden when they was pups and bully them all. I quite like the dogs, but they are little b*****ds yes I passed a yard once and one ran out and started biting the pups back end end. Even then he was a big lad so kept his sharp end away from it. But since then he bloody hates them which is a pain in the ass and all because some one couldn't be arsed to manage there do

remember as a kid spending bloody hours trying to dig me ferret out with a stick. The ferret climbed over and killed and got stuck on the wrong side jammed tight. Was just following the pipes stuffing a poxy bramble along the tube. Must been there all day. Could had it out in 5 minutes with a locator. Just pure luck we found it
