  1. Nothing wrong with pushing off it gives the dog a chance to decide where its going to land the other side and more control and slower. Had a few that all ways jumped barbed wire like that. Could all ways slip and get hung up. Better than jumping full whack and miss judging but jumping in any fashion can go tits. Present dog rarely jumps unless his after some thing and then he will jump double fences and all sorts with out a thought. Rather he didn't
  2. Get on top of all stock breaking asap and sooner from horses to cats. Get the dog used to having its feet messed with regular so you can keep nails short and avoid or at least help avoid toe injuries Get saving for vet bills and expect to spend half the season with the dog recovering from some disaster or another. From the word go don't let the dog get into any daft habits you don't want to deal with later on I know these things because I made a right hash brown of mine
  3. the one is right I reckon a nice thin line works better
  4. Yes that is very true. He is an exciting dog to work with no half measures and only one speed. I did hope he was starting to respect the ground we have to work but he really is not lol. If there is some thing about he will work the ground quickly at full tilt in case it is on the move. Once his happy it is not then it is nose down and figure it out. But it is that attitude that catches stuff compared to a more laid back type I guess. He flushed a rabbit out the reeds this morning then covered the surrounding area in about 30 seconds before getting his snout down and tracking it acro
  5. I think a few on here sell it but failing that https://www.fourteenacre.co.uk/shop/product-category/net-making/draw-cord/
  6. You can't beat it. I remember as a kid my grandad picking up an old wood burner from a scrapyard and he plumbed it in the water tank of our mobile home. It was lovely and cosy and the old tank used to burble away when it was boiling
  7. saying that cant fault that salmon and egg either
  8. Good old porridge and not that fine stuff either. Throw a banana in raisins, peanut butter, honey or some frozen fruit from the allotment. Good stuff made with milk
  9. Just walk around with the ferrets this morning just enjoying our walk and the dog was a pleasure. He did every thing to perfection keeping in nice range checking on me where I was. Big forestry of young tree's so at times on my knees looking up the rows to catch a glimpse as he crossed over checking out bits of scent. There was scent about but in such a big block biit of a needle in a hay stack job I liked the way at one point he heard a magpie chatter and went off to check if charlie was sneaking about he seems to have sussed that one out. I keep showin
  10. Well its seems a common thing then as mine according the vet has a broken toe and it has fused back together. He won't be seeing the lamp this year again and we will see how it fairs next season. Just a bit of ferreting because around here day time work is just a short dash and and that is it really. I am in no rush to have it off as you can't undo that and we will see how it is after a summer of doing not a lot. Good luck folks with your dogs and there recovery

    kong

Thanks Arry he was mopping them up on the lamp a treat until he did his toe in. Doubt he will see the lamp again this season. He likes to have a total wipe out each season
  16. Kong is the brother to my other hob and just hit 8 months and hasn't been out yet so today I decided to give him a whirl as one of them is getting the snip next year just a question of who. The dog was lame on his toe after yesterday so today was a good opportunity to walk a couple of fields that are surround by a dual carrageway and an A road on the other side. Even on a lead he is a god send. We started walking around the edge and there was scent about but nothing at home. We were nearly done and heading back along the last bit when typically a rabbit hopped out in fr
  17. Well we bagged our second ferreted rabbit of the season this morning. On a roll now It sure does make you appreciate them. I think this lurcher of mine is great watching him working his nose this morning was the best thing. He uses it like a wand even though he can't get in the cover because it is so thick he stands there altering the position of his snout and wafting the air. Bloody great. I travelled light and didn't have the camera sadly so just a couple of snaps when we got home. We worked along the top of some forestry for starters and he scented a rabbit a long th

Butcher up the road sells goat but because it is a bit of an oddity around here its at lamb prices
  19. yes I bet Micky. Bloody thin on the ground here. My ferreting total so far is one lol. All my little spots where I could all ways pickup one or two are empty. So I can certainly appreciate a day like you had. Top stuff
  20. Good day for you both. The nights will start pulling out now and it feels like it is over before it has started lol
  21. Me too which is a great shame Tuka has done great job. Makes the dog a pleasure to own and you don't need a Valium on every walk
