  1. For prawns find a dock wall or pier, bait with fish and check it every 10 or 15 mins. Remove any prawns and crabbs, prawns will always be first to enter but once a crab enters or blocks the entrance no more prawn will go in. You can try setting at low water on a rock mark for crab and lobster but is not great. Be better if you have access to a boat and as mentioned fresh bait for crab, smelly for lobster is often favored. Edited to add those clapSable traps work fine for the prawn if used how I said, leave them in to long though or out in rough seas they will get ripped to shreds. Gaz.
  2. I would also consider how snaggy the water is you are targeting. More snags I would go heavier so you can bully them a touch more, and a little more insurance if your line rubs against something. Trade off is reduced casting distance and I always feel less bites on the heavier mainline. Clear, open water lighten up, you will get more runs. Gaz
  3. Amazing catch, congrats. Personally I would have put it back, but they are very good to eat and your catch your choice! Almost certainly a very old fish, real shame they have declined so much.

  5. Check the bedding isn't damp / wet. Seen a couple go that way due to a leaking hutch...
  6. http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/anger-holyhead-breakwater-closed-traffic-8114212 it's been closed a while. Was a good venue for those needing easy access, can't help but think the constant litter, fires and fact it constantly stank of piss didn't do anything to make the owners believe it was worth leaving access to though.
  7. The cougars here (alberta, canada) grow over 200lb and their main prey is whitetail deer, which often weigh more than them. They have no issues dragging adult deer high up trees. It would take a very special dog to stand even a slim chance against a healthy adult cougar / puma / mountain lion IMHO.
  8. Qbgrey August u will have plenty of salmon species to go at and sturgeon in the Fraser. As mentioned find a tackle shop and enquire in there. As a non resident hunting options will be limited and expensive, only real option will be going with a guide which ain't cheap. PM me if u want more info. Gaz.

  10. Mackem have a look at the shimano technium sturgeon rod it rated for 40 to 80lb braid bUT has a very sensitive tip. An uptide or spoding rod might also work.
  11. Plenty of variety there Bell, nice trip ?
  12. Costa del mar, smith optics, maui jim or Oakley about as good as it gets, none are cheap though. Edited to add do a bit of research on lens colour and type of use/ time of day, can make a big difference even in the cheap glasses
  13. http://www.mikeladle.com/ See chapter 10 and 11 lots of good info on this site Gaz Edit sorry see 11 & 12
  14. Fair play mate you don't mess about do you!! I hope you enjoy it, am sure you will. Get a bit of practice on some grass putting the floor in, they can be a bit tricky till you get the knack. Out of interest what hp engine did you go for? Edited to add nothing wrong with the mariner engines, been used by the RNLI for years for good reason
  15. Yep those Parsuns are Chinese I believe. I would avoid the uptider or any longer rod on a smallish boat, its no fun having to hang the rod over the side every time the line wraps round the tip or for threading the rings, and will create problems you don't need. Those Suzuki 6hp 4strokes are good little engines but like you said it wont get a 3.8m inflatable on the plane, if buying new is an option the evinrude etecs are nice motors with no break requirements and I think no servicing for the first 3 years which will save a bit of cost. I would still say get the dolly wheels for the transom, wit
  16. I have fished from a few inflatables and also ribs over the years, and have never had a hook go through one. I would never dream of taking a gaff aboard one though. I had a fair few bass, thornback etc and never felt a puncture was likely, but did hear a report of a tope shredding a tube once. Just get one with multiple chambers If you are worried. The material on the known make ones is fairy tough in my experience. They are very seaworthy for there size, but they are wet boats with no protection, minimal freeboard and the tubes take up a lot of the internal space. I will tell you I wouldn't
  17. Not personally, but know people who have and they say he is very good.
  18. http://gwilymhughes.com/SeaTroutFishing.asp Maybe not the cheapest option but you will learn an awful lot from him.
  19. I couldn't get them to group (165 or 180 gr) at all in my 30-06 X bolt.
  20. Depends where you looking at but main hunting species will be deer, moose, bear (grizzly, black and possibly polar if you want to follow a native), caribou (raindeer), elk, wolf, elk, sheep and goat and possibly Muskox and bison I think. As stated all will be very expensive by uk standards. I would look at a few days fishing for halibut and king salmon, go in summer, but flies can be brutal apparently
  21. So sorry, truly heartbreaking
