  1. Costa del mar, smith optics, maui jim or Oakley about as good as it gets, none are cheap though. Edited to add do a bit of research on lens colour and type of use/ time of day, can make a big difference even in the cheap glasses
  2. http://www.mikeladle.com/ See chapter 10 and 11 lots of good info on this site Gaz Edit sorry see 11 & 12
  3. Fair play mate you don't mess about do you!! I hope you enjoy it, am sure you will. Get a bit of practice on some grass putting the floor in, they can be a bit tricky till you get the knack. Out of interest what hp engine did you go for? Edited to add nothing wrong with the mariner engines, been used by the RNLI for years for good reason
  4. Yep those Parsuns are Chinese I believe. I would avoid the uptider or any longer rod on a smallish boat, its no fun having to hang the rod over the side every time the line wraps round the tip or for threading the rings, and will create problems you don't need. Those Suzuki 6hp 4strokes are good little engines but like you said it wont get a 3.8m inflatable on the plane, if buying new is an option the evinrude etecs are nice motors with no break requirements and I think no servicing for the first 3 years which will save a bit of cost. I would still say get the dolly wheels for the transom, wit
  5. I have fished from a few inflatables and also ribs over the years, and have never had a hook go through one. I would never dream of taking a gaff aboard one though. I had a fair few bass, thornback etc and never felt a puncture was likely, but did hear a report of a tope shredding a tube once. Just get one with multiple chambers If you are worried. The material on the known make ones is fairy tough in my experience. They are very seaworthy for there size, but they are wet boats with no protection, minimal freeboard and the tubes take up a lot of the internal space. I will tell you I wouldn't
  6. Not personally, but know people who have and they say he is very good.
  7. http://gwilymhughes.com/SeaTroutFishing.asp Maybe not the cheapest option but you will learn an awful lot from him.
  8. I couldn't get them to group (165 or 180 gr) at all in my 30-06 X bolt.
  9. Depends where you looking at but main hunting species will be deer, moose, bear (grizzly, black and possibly polar if you want to follow a native), caribou (raindeer), elk, wolf, elk, sheep and goat and possibly Muskox and bison I think. As stated all will be very expensive by uk standards. I would look at a few days fishing for halibut and king salmon, go in summer, but flies can be brutal apparently
  10. So sorry, truly heartbreaking
  11. Originally put in the wrong section, has anyone any info or experience of the "seek ir" android / i-phone add on cameras, or the "flir one" i phone add on? They look interesting for the price (around $200 / $350 respectively). http://thermal.com/what_is_thermal_desktop.html http://www.flir.com/flirone/
  12. Does anyone have any experience of the new generation of phone add on ir cameras, specifically the seek ir camera or flir one add ons? For the price they certainly look interesting...
  13. There was a lad at the range I go to with one, and I have to say the savage b.mag (well his anyway) is junk. I did not fire it but asked him what his thoughts on it were. It was only a few months old, was jamming constantly, the bolt was terrible and the groups were not as good as his arm hMr he said. Certainly an interesting rim fire round but while the only rifle available is the bmag I wouldnt bother.....
  14. I wouldn't worry to much about chancers getting into it to make fast money, its true the fur market has picked up in the last couple of years, but it is still quite volatile and even the professional US and Canadian trappers are generally seen as in it for the lifestyle, rather than the money. Catching it is the easy part, putting it up into a sale-able condition is the tough part. Skinning, fleshing, washing, boarding, drying, combing, sewing etc all takes time and effort. Each fur is graded before auction, and final prices wont be known until after the auction. If you can find a buyer to sel
  15. A compilation of video clips, some are quite good and worth watching. http://drowningworms.com/best-fishing-video-ever/?utm_source=feedly&utm_reader=feedly&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=best-fishing-video-ever
  16. Excellent post, the clearest and most comprehensive info on net repair I have read.
  17. Came across this online, might be of use to some, obviously a lot of it is not applicable or legal in the UK but still has some good info... http://www.usask.ca/education/ccstu/pdfs/trapping%20app.pdf
  18. Here in Alberta the 330 size traps are certified for beaver, lynx and otter. Not much will walk away alive from them though, if caught correctly... http://albertaregulations.ca/trappingregs/general-regulations.htm#trap-requirements
  19. Very good Orvis video: http://vimeo.com/85147880
  20. When setting off the beach i used to use 5kg cqr anchors with the swivelling head both ends with a few feet of chain, dug in around 2ft (or as deep as i could if the sand was wet). I had the odd one (end) pull out sometimes on a big tide, but never had one dissapear down the coast! Great thread and photos, Gaz.
  21. why steal the child's thunder ! Pathetic comment to make !! FFS Another keyboard warrier that connot read, just looks at pictures, and makes assumtions. Are you lot really that fecking thick that you cannot see what was said? TC I have a better idea. Why don't you go back and read the thread again, from the start, and try and take in not only the original post, but all of the replies. Nowhere does the OP say the young
  22. Real classy knocking a young lads catch, what does it matter to you what the fish looks like? The words miserable old fekker spring to mind........
  23. Tiercel if weight is the issue (and double knotting!), have you considered dropping your height down from 15 meshes, and sticking with a twine closer to what you know?
