  1. If you mean Shewsbury mate Shaterford lakes, few miles out of Bridgenorth on A442 had nice cats (60's) and ok carp (30's i think). Fish on Masters or Erics lake, livebaits, deads or luncheon meat for cats, they used to sometimes sell trout on site for livebaits, few also fall for boiles if the carp don't wolf them first. Only place i know where you could still expect to catch cats in the middle of a bright summers day (livebaits on poly ball just under surface). Not fished it for a few years so not sure what it is like now but used to be decent. Bit further from you but also decent for cats us
  2. Well done mate great first trip targeting them
  3. Best advise i can give you is get a copy of Ron Greer's book, "Ferox Trout and Arctict Char", without a doubt the best book every published on fishing for ferox. Good luck and i hope you get lucky, enjoy the experiance, they are a wonderfull, truely wild fish.
  4. Good luck- i hope it went well
  5. Spent a few seasons pike fishing Bala, always found you will get a lot more runs on livebait but my biggest always came to deads. Not a hard water but most pike will be under 15lb, if bank fishing as others have said it pays to fish a feeder while piking, will provide bait and as soon as the bites stop usually means a pike is in the swim. If you have access to a boat I would troll until you find some fish or bait shoals. Watch the fishfinder, its a proper glacial lake and has lots of changes drop offs etc. PM'd you some more. Gaz
  6. No probs, just checked and I used a 40mm P pitch prop and a Litespeed 600 motor, check your PMs, Gaz
  7. Has the boat got a prop(s) or jet? When I built mine running a single 1" prop I think i used a 700 speed motor. Take it to a model shop they will tell you what size motor to get. Gaz
  8. Shatterford or cudmore probably your best bets if you want cats, (or lakemore if you can handle all the rules/ restrictions/ rig checks etc etc), all got good cats in them.
  9. Is it not possible to launch from off the road just up (North) from the ferry, on the opposite side to Bowness anymore?
  10. Neil, never had a kayak in my life (but had plenty of boats big and small), in my opiion a 9ft rod will be at best a pain in the arse, first time the line wraps round the tip or you have to re thead the lie through the rings etc you will see what I mean. If it was me go for a cheap 6 ft or proper kayak rod which I think are around 4ft, it will be a lot easier to handle / set up / balance when your changing lure or hopefully unhooking fish. Gaz.
  11. Fair play, I will have a look for his posts, can understand the balaclava, can sure get cold With the huge decline in some species of fish in the last few years personally I couldn't bring myself to go near running water nowadays, feel they need all the help they can get. Each to his own though and respect that those that still do (penalties are severe!) Don't believe it is the odd few getting gilled / gaffed that has crippled the stocks, that has gone on since man knitted nets, more likely water abstraction of our rivers and purse seiners at sea in my opinion. Saying that no need to hang
  12. yes i am sure it would, all the best, Gaz
  13. Nice catch Bell, someone once told me that for the trout, inland is more productive! All the best, Gaz
  14. The easy way to find out the bylaws in your area, as well as what is legal or not, is ring up your local sea fisheries officer and ask them, they are usually only to welcome to help. The bylaws are different all around the country. In the North Western and North Wales area, they are as netter has described, and generally boil down to you can net off the beach almost anywhere except nursery areas from 31st November to 1st March (I think from memory). From March to November you cannot net in specific areas, usually anywhere there is a chance you may take migratory fish (Salmon or sea trout), suc
  15. Fair few (but mostly schoolies) getting caught on North Wales / Anglesey surf beaches and rock marks when conditions are favourable, and the crab are starting to peel as well apparently
  16. Fishing anywhere along this coast usually improves with a bit of surf (west throuth to northerly wind), fresh lug for bait, loads of marks such as Prestatyn Barkby beach, Ffrith, Splash Point or Rhyl beach, Towyn, Llandulas, Tan Llan, Colwyn Bay Prom, RHOS on sea, Orme or North/ West shore Llandudno. Most of the marks fish better over low water in my opinion, for up to date info and bait go into Geoffs tackle in rhyl or Jokers tackle in colwyn bay, order your bait in advance. Ask in either of these shops where to go. if you fish a beach look for the gulleys and fish into them, bass and flatti
