How come so many people buy in adult dogs?
morton replied to skycat's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Most buy in an older dog to save the trouble of bringing on a pup, bypassing the trials and tribulations that go with it,some are not confident enough yet to train a pup and find a ready trained jukel a more appealing option, after gaining experience most people will prefer to train and enter their own pup, they can put their own personal stamp on it,some are not capable of getting the best from a pup,or an older dog for that matter, they flit from dog to dog and type to type, ruining one and replacing it without thought or reason, its always been the same and will never change. -
pretty much yeah! i didnt really want it i wanted a bitch pup out of it, n the dogs away working n all perhaps mybe happy even who knows? but let me ask ya this did it get hurt in any way ? At least your honest about it,that would make you either shallow and greedy or a total tard,i don,t for one minute believe you are shallow and greedy.Good luck with the next mutt, poor F***er.

And the next owner can pass it on when something shiny catches his eye,if the dog gets a lucky break it might end up in a kennel with a decent owner,hopefully.12 weeks old and allready surplus to requirements, classic.

If you could obtain an original working type of Deerhound, there would be no real need to outcross it,to produce workers, few lurchers about today would stand up to one,for the work and type of land they were bred for.The KC ruined a once noble breed. There are breeders about trying to redress the situation, how soccessful they are is open to individual interpretation, thus the need to outcross to get the best out of what is now available. The right type in the right kennel are still a most useful tool.

jacked off with seeing ( 100% ) lurchers for sale
morton replied to jcm's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The internet as made puppy peddling an art form, the stories and pedigrees these people fabricate are worthy of a literary prize of the highest order, their talents are wasted with dog dealings. There is a certain captive audience that gets sucked in by all the bullpoo and tales of dareing do,these are the gullible souls that are the peddlars dream. If its to difficult a task to source a decent bred pup from a genuine owner then let the peddlars have free reign with the gormless souls.I don,t buy into the argument that the youngsters know no better,a little effort on their part will gain the assis -
As soon as you put"which will sell better",i thought another breeding for all the wrong reasons.

Its easy to get a dog and only then start to think where can i run it,not to smart though, then want a kill before looking for permission, even less smart. While your walking the dog about getting it fit and used to your company, you may walk past land that could possibly serve your purpose, its always best to ask for permission,if thats not forthcoming then its plan B,just don,t get caught or step on someones toes.

you say that but they get you in there and try and talk you into this and that and what with the new law of microchipping coming in they will sting people all the time simple really, `just say NO how will it stand when the laws in i think they will refuse treatment unless they stick a chip in the dog , not sure but thats what they will say to people we can only treat the pup if we put a chip in. then they will register you to that practise and check the pup over , theres always a catch they advertise like this to get you there and then more or less black mail you by saying i got to chip

Everywhere and anywhere,a long gallop round here can cover pasture, moor and woodland in a short time,i find big open land tedious and try to avoid stubble. The land i detest is the limestone steppes of the dales,an accident in waiting.

Looks like welly,s and raincoats for the weekend, its that warm a little rain should,nt put many off. -
Mix and match, put a peg on each end for some,8" will do,some, one big peg for softer ground, some a short fat peg for wedging in rocks.

Its not fun or funny, the dogs did,nt chase sheep which is a massive bonus, get em on a lead around sheep.
-
Its possibly not so mysterious to others, especially the owners that know how to get the best out of the breed, even in this political climate.

Thats all well and good, but what do you or your dog bring to the plate to warrant someone contemplating giving you a line?,there will be some that will do it for financial gain,if that is their only reason id give them a wide berth. How olds the bitch?,does it have a few seasons honest graft under it?,what reason do you have for wanting a line?.

When looking for a pup the first thing to look at is the parents,if they don,t have all the physical attributes that you desire in a dog, then its a waste to look at the pups.Only when you are happy with the parentage and breeding should you wish to start going over the pups, pups grow at different rates,so the biggest at 8 weeks may be the smallest st a year, the same with other aspects of their physical make up,i look for a bright, bold and alert pup that is responsive and bouncy,at the end of the day the best pointer in taking on a pup is the person selling them,if they seem genuine, keep the do
