Some Anti's faces from today plus VRM to look out for active in the peaks
morton replied to tegater's topic in General Talk
The EDL held a rally in Keighley last week, the only arrests made were because certain members covered their faces, which is illegal in situations like this, the Police were legally obliged to make them take off the masks, the hunt needs to make an official complaint to the Police.Play them at their own game. -
Your trying to say you own a dog that ran 12 year on stubble and never got a cut?,id advise some better glasses or stop telling porkies.
-
A jukel that gets itself on a long gallop,in certain areas, will cover ground less than suitable for running on,without the chance of injury, alas this is part and parcel of a running dogs life. The owner of a dog that puposely runs a mutt were there is said chance of injury, without concern for the dogs well being, should,nt own a running dog.Take your boots and socks off and then try and run across dry stubble, especially in a frost.

Thats all well and good, but, these type of people have had to put up with every numpty, wannabe and chancer, over the years. Most of them now want little contact with people they don,t know, they have reason to choose their friends and acquaintances with care, more so now.

If your happy with the whippet, train that to the lamp,if your thinking of widening your hunting opportunities then get a lurcher to lurcher bred pup from tested parents, the dogs ability in the field is more important than breeding, don,t be to fixated on this or that cross, just the parents ability in the field.
-
If you want a Beddy for bushing stay away from KC bred stock, source from a genuine working home, thats a minefield of liars and chancers, then get the dog in the field, they will push cover and mark as good as most and better than some, any failings in the dog then will lie solely at the owners feet, once youve bashed about with a decent Beddy you won,t go back to anything else.

Nothing wrong with owning and showing a nice looking terrier, trouble is to many are bred for type now,not just Lakeys, function plays little part in the breeding of a lot of these show types now,the work some see is manufactured to enhance the image. There are still nice typey terriers that are capable of doing a shift at the sharp end, finding them is another matter.

The dogs lacking confidence,id keep it in familiar surroundings until it becomes bolder with age, then take it further afield, don,t push the dog let it develop at its own speed,as its confidence grows,so will its development.
-
Pups,to develop, need to explore their senses, which cannot fully be done on a lead, choose the ground carefully for this to take place, until the youngster is stock trained and as decent recall, keep it away from such distractions, let the pup then have some liberty to develop its instincts and learn its trade.

Its a pup,it will miss some and drop some,as it gets older, fitter and stronger, mentally not just physically,it will miss less and stop dropping its catches,as long as the retrieving and basic training as been undertaken by the owner.

I hear the lads running the show spent an hour afterwards picking dummy,s up that certain individuals spat out.Again my lad did,nt know the judge yet picked up 2 class wins and runner up in show,he did,nt rate the winner but accepted the judges individual choice,my son and his mate agreed with most of the judges choices,he said the judge seemed fair and seemed to know his dogs,if you cannot accept the judges decision, with a little grace, then you take the whole thing far to serious. The main thing is that money was raised for a worthwhile cause, most will have enjoyed the day for what it was and

whats the best way to get a heavy lurcher fit
morton replied to mbdt's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
More than 2 or even 3 ways to keep a dog interested and in shape,i find it quaintly amusing that the ones who care to rest the dogs and let things recover their numbers don,t feel the need to justify and look for reasonable excuses for their actions,i understand the genuine pest control options and even entering a youngster, the rest ive little time or understanding for. -

I don,t feel the need to overwork the land, why make inroads into unworthy quarry that will be a better days sport later on,especially when it grows to a size that may better challenge the dogs.Ive plenty to do at this time of year, the dogs can still be kept physically fit with a few leisurely walks and swims.I find the dogs are physically and mentally so much fresher come late autumn, due to a break, less chance of picking up knocks and bangs and a chance to recover from an arduous season. Really i find dog's that are kept running and working all year round suffer less injurys muscles etc when -

Well my lad certainly did,nt know the lurcher judge,he walked away with 1st in 2 classes and runner up in show. The judge made his choice, another show, another day, another judge the results may have been different, its called personal preference.Take the losses as well as the wins, its only a show.

Not entirely true, ive owned a couple, many years ago,the ground they adapted to,one of them was a lethal fox slayer the other ran circles and screamed at em,deadly on the 1st,sometimes 2nd hare that they ran.The biggest drawback was their lack of wind, overtax them and it was a long slog home with a dog on the shoulders.

The fact of life is,there are and have always been a certain type of person, wether they own a lurcher or not is irrelevant, that have and always will be criminals,of one sort or another. Some of the earliest poachers were the scum of the earth, while the minority poached game to feed a starving family, the rest did it to line there pockets, the unfortunates that stood in their way paid an hefty price. When people now try and make out they poach for some romantic and misguided reason,i admire their ignorance and naivety. The main people that are accountable for mainly rural crime, that take a lurcher,l
