  1. I bet all your windows are spotless, the amount of time you spend licking them.
  2. Why,do you go around beating old women up?.
  3. Totally irresponsible to run a dog into the ground, accidents happen now and then, nobody as control over a long gallop that may tax the best of mutts, but when the dog shows signs of real tiredness,it should go on a lead and the day ended.
  4. The rspca have no real legal power, but they do have the backing of not only the police, but also the goverment,if any other charitable organisation flouted the law like they are allowed and encouraged to do,they would be open to litigation and bankrupted.Only when somebody takes them on,which will entail taking on the goverment and police, successfully and wins a case against them in the courts, then this sort of action by them will become more commonplace, they seem to have an agenda going now were dogs are seized on the flimsiest of evidence and kept from their owners until the case reaches cour
  5. Unless it came from a genuine working background,id leave well alone,as soon as i see KC alarm bells start to ring.
  6. I believe dogs certainly hold grudges, ive seen it so many times with a pack, once 2 fall out there is always an underlying atmosphere between them, they may work together for months and then the most trivial of incidents will trigger a response from one that the other looks to capitalise on,usually leading to a set to.Ive housed lurchers and terriers together at times,i knew the dogs temperaments and nature, ive rarely had trouble, most of the time the mutts will be fine,a little snap and snarl and the dogs soon settle into the routine of kennel life together, but now and then, you misread a situati
  7. Walk them in,throw an handful of corn down in the shed, after youve done this a few times they should savvy up.
  8. Seperate them now and save the chance of an accident later on,if a lurcher and terrier decide to have a fall out in the kennel,by the time you get to them, the little fella could be done for.
  9. Your more fortunate than many of us here pal,but any posts about knacking moggies bring all the wrong attention, from all the wrong sort and impress only the type that should,nt own dogs.Accidents happen in the field and thats were they should stay.It was a stupid question to ask as it could so easily have been answered by yourself the next time you ventured out.
  10. I guess it's down to the availability of genuine working Beardie blood. Despite the fact that when you start looking there are quite a few out there folk would rather go for the easier option of using a Border. Beardies are more of a challenge the most Border bred dogs. There are some 'stock dog' type Borders that display very similar temperaments to Beardies, but on the whole they are a harder dog to train and work with. The are very intelligent dogs after all and they know their own mind. If they don't want to do something they won't do it simple as that. I'm bit, no a lot like that myse
  11. I think that using a Lab as a base line is a step in the wrong direction, there are far to many,Proven, types about that would serve a better purpose and lend themselves better to the creation of a lurcher, your choice though and if it works for you, fair play.Ive seen Lab crosses[1/2 bred]decent nose, biddable, lacked pace.
  12. Good size for Good size height wise,id be dubious why he,s selling dogs of that age, working Bedlington bitch,s are like rocking horse muck, take a look,if they agree with you then take a punt,a better option for bushing than the average terrier.
  13. If you cannot,or will not, learn the basic,s of stock training any dog, then im afraid you should never own a dog,no matter how misguided you may be.A dog trained to standing sheep is only part trained, when sheep can gallop excitedly past the mutt and the mutt ignores them, then your 1/2 way there.A dog broken to sheep will often be totally confused by lambs, especially when they frolic by bleating merrily, this is when the training begins again, when and only when the dog ignores lambs and sheep, over many hours of interaction with them, can you begin to feel safe, then i still prefer them under close
  14. All pheasants are non native to this country, yet the ring neck hybrids are released in vast quantity,s.Travelling through Cumbria last year i came across several Reeve,s in the fields.
  15. Im still waiting for this "best ever bullx" pic to be posted.
  16. you know people from before the saluki came along eh ? they must be gettting on a bit Kevin, before you wrote that I actually thought you might know a bit but now......... I did,nt.
  17. I don,t know if its just me,but ive never understood the need to add Whippet to the mix,if i was concentrating on a bunny basher, perhaps, but for a jukel that was attempting to get anywhere near its potential in the field, with all that could be in front of it,adding whippety is a backward step.
  18. Why have the lads that have seen it run not snapped it up?,if its done what you say and its going with a trial, then it sounds like it may make a useful mutt for somebody, the price for that type of dog seems reasonable enough.
  19. Your dog, your responsibility,if your thinking of the young bitch and its welfare then id cull all but one,i would bring the pup on,if it makes, fair do,s.
  20. There are several laws in use that protect even feral moggies, usually ending up with a charge of cruelty, ignorance is no defence in law.
  21. There are many, many good lamp and battery combinations on the market, buy something decent,if second hand, check the battery life, dearer set ups will pay in the long term.Starting lamping is best done with a little education from a more experienced lamper, you will learn more in a night than a season of going alone.
  22. Ive owned several Saluki bred lurchers,on open land behind an hare they have few equals,a 3/4 Grey-1/4 Border i also owned accounted for more Hares over its hunting life,it caught on open land, small fields, moors, over, under and around obstacles, plough, short grass, wooded areas and anywhere else an Hare could be found. If you want a dog to run on open land, where the mutt does,nt need to use to much brain power, get a Saluki type,if you want a dog that can think on its feet, use its nose, adapt to any given scenario,multi-task and come back without to much prompting, get a Collie based mutt. There are a
