  1. Now who's explaining them selves, and ive seen springers push fox's out to guns to be shot ,no big deal.
  2. Best ive had was dhxgh, very fast and strong, day and night time dog on al quarry. Some lurchers will take fox for sport in daylight but show them one on the lamp and its a different story.
  3. Some dogs are more easily kept than others, its not all about retiring the dog and let him have the freedom of the yard for the rest of his days. The one i had,had to be kept in kennell at al times while not on a leash, even though i have loads of room at the back he could not be trusted to roam free with neighbours dogs and cats about, also young kids running around. When he did escape he finished up in the shore and that was his last outing bar his final walk.Im not saying every old dog should be pts,but a lot is down to the dogs health and temperment, and also the owners situtation for keeping th
  4. Hope you get your dog back and the b*****d that took it gets whats coming to him,fm.
  5. Nice pups, and they look well looked after, fair play.
  6. Dealer..i started a thread asking people did they keep their old retired dogs on the yard or did they cull and make room for young blood.I was never talking about my own dog,i just mentioned that i had one.As for your question would he leave his game to fight another dog, well i know he would on top if he got within striking distance,as i said he was a liability around other dogs. When he was younger he was fine its when he went blind and deaf things started to go bad,so i could not risk puting another dog to ground and maybe end up losing 2,if you knew the shores in question you would understan
  7. My old dog had to finially be pts,not by choice but by need as he had spent almost 3 days to ground in a shore in the garden of the estate where i live.My daughter was giving all my dogs fresh water and he got out by her and was of.This dog was stone deaf and almost completely blind. She searched for him about the gardens then phoned me to say he had got out.I knew straight away where he was and when i got home i went to the entrance to the shore and it was freshly kicked out. This shore runs al over the gardens as many years ago there was an old work house in them so he could have been anywhere
  8. i agree witn you boss far to many dogs sold on as workers and arent worth petrol money to collect the curs.. but i have to say just imo that you give them a fair chance to show there worth keeping and if the do they will be kept good work for as long as there willin to do there job,,, R.i.p RUSTY THE OLD WARRIOR I would love to have a kennell full like old rusty,at least he died after he was bred to do,and boy did he do it well.Had no respect for any quarry.
  9. I have said befpre on here if you can get your hands on the right borders they are hard to beat.I had a couple of the cobh lads years back and they were as good as any other breed, great finders and would stay to the death and not give an inch.We had a dog up until 3 year ago who died after a very hard dig,who was as good as any terrier ive seen work and i have seen a lot of terriers do there job both at present and pre ban when it was legal to dig badger. They are scarce on the ground now but im sure there is still plenty of decent working borders to be had if time was taken to find the right o
  10. My diging mate had 1 from a pup until it died at about 8 year old.He was a halfx and was a very good dog to ground on fox,not hard but a very steady dog and a brilliant finder. He was also a very good dog in tight cover when ran with hounds, would give plenty of tounge when hunting on top.
  11. They may not dig,and there is some that do but,it was travellers that robbed mine and then swaped them to a bigger bunch of b*****ds for lurchers.
  12. I think the pellet gun was a great invention, silent but deadly.
  13. Where is it taking place, what greyhound track, what time does it start,is it still on the 5th.
  14. Best lurcher i ever had called him SPUD.
  15. My personal opinion on them dogs on that dvd was they were good dogs to hunt up and were definatly fit but as for fox dogs i wonder how often they would kill fox single handed.
  16. yeah i agree the epsom salts is great stuff,,,i use tat in the tub meself :stinker: That's not all you use in the tub you dirty little man,so wipeout told me.
  17. To busterdog's question,i have seen too many dogs sold on and then they travel up and down the country swaping hands for 3.or.4 year till someone finially cops on the dog is shit and does the right thing. As for a good working dog i have never sold a working dog that i held in high esteem.Ibought a black bitch a few year back from a chap that was giving up the game,he told me one thing about her and she proved different.A chap then contacted me looking for a fox bitch and that's where she went.Any dogs we have either work to the standard we want and are kept till old age takes them,or they dont
  18. Cracking looking pup, idenical to a dog of the same way bred that i had mysely a few year back.Mine was from a 7.8th to a halfx dog and the pup i kept was idenical to your's.My dog entered very young taking fox single handed at 9months and deer at year old.I sent 2 of the pups to england and they both were entered at a young age aswell and done the buisness,1 red redish dog went on to be an outstanding deer dog single handed.took fallow stags for sport,he was 28tts and about 70lb.If bred right they are as good as any bullx on any quarry all pre ban of course.
  19. I think if you run them on there own alan they become a better dog for it,more determent to catch as there not waiting on the second dog to do the work for them,as mack said i have seen a dog lie in behind another and let it do the work until the turn then it takes the glory.
  20. I would never breed from a dog that was not capable of finishing a fox to ground, that includes both dog.n.bitch and thats mpo.I like a bit of hardness in a terrier, dont get me wrong i dont mean a dog that will come out as it has been through a shredder,i mean a terrier that can up the gears when needs must,When your diging stuff thats been dug a few times this is where a harder type of dog comes into his own as everyone knows the last ft of the dig will be the hardest on the dog, thats when the pressure is on and thats when a terrier needs that higher gear to keep the quarry in tight, nobody lik
  21. Was the dog up tp its quarry when it came away and was he marked when he came out.As someone else mentioned he could have killed to ground if he is as hard as you say,i would have dug to the mark.Did he want back in,maybe he lost it anything can happen under the ground, give him another go and see what happens, this time of year is not good for diggin as cubs will run f**k out of the best of terriers.
  22. Totally agree with you d,as i personally think the bitch plays a bigger part in the breeding than the dog.I know of lads that will put the best dog about over bitchs that would not be fit to do a proper days graft and then when the pups go wrong they blame the dog.
  23. i had a dog that was as hard as they come to hard really he always got in a mess from the age of 3 he had a couple of lumps on his under jaw got a mate of me old fellas who knows what hes talking about to have a look and he said it was just grissel from constant opening up and healing the dog carry on till he was 8 carnt say its the same as yours but hope it helps atb Thats what i was thinking as he has been opened up a few times, but will try syringe it in the morn see if any shit in it.
  24. Cheers dee will try it in the morn see if any shit comes out.
