  1. Yeah like the woodcock shooting myself, not that there is that many about me in season.I could not imagine a terrier any addition at them,i think a good rough springer or maybe a sproker, something with plenty of drive in it for woodcock.JMHO.
  2. Your springers if there any good should be more than capable of pushing anything you can legally shoot without using a terrier.
  3. as neil told every 1 he hunts for 26 weeks of the a year so fatman that means 2 digs a week or 2 a day for each bitch thats good goin you must have a right team of dogs about you out of these good bitches. Magners who's to say we only got 2 digs a week for 26 weeks. There were days we had maybe 3.4.or 5 digs a day and thats not including during the week when i or neil would be out on our own or with someone else.As for the 2 bitchs, mine was stolen along with every other terrier i had in the yard, and neil might still have some of penny's blood in his yard im not sure.It is not a big deal to
  4. Sounder what i meant was years ago you could pick a terrier of the street and take it out and it would work, but that day is gone. How many for sale ads do you see now for unreal money and most of these dogs advertised as workers or from proven workers are in fact just rubbish. As for the amount of diging we get well thats up to the individual who gets his or her dogs out every chance they get.I think a lot of the lads that are moaning about not geting the diging are not puting in the time. Its no good going out for a dig after dinner on a sunday and then straight home to the pup or whatever, you w
  5. TM good quality terriers are gone scarce, let alone sounders, and if you have hard ones you dont want i will gladly take them of your hands.I can remember when i started diging first there was nothing to be had only white bodied terriers of different make up,some or most had bull in them while more where fox terrier russellxs then there was the sealyham russells all were good diging dogs and a lot were to ground for very long periods because there were no locaters then,so they were tested for gameness and staying power. Then the black dogs started to creep through in different locations around th
  6. might be glands get urself a pack of marigolds and some vaseline aahhh im saying nothing LMK was thinking that might work for wipeout, why dont you give it a try, hahaha.
  7. And safety glasses to keep sand out of its eyes,oh and a first aid kit round its neck just in case the armour gets peirced.ffs.
  8. In all the years im diging i have never counted it as pest control. When the lads and i go out its to see the dogs work first and formost, and then its to have the craic and generally take the piss out of each other. When i go shooting i dont care if i never shoot a thing as long as the springers are geting all the work they want, but i do shoot an odd one.Terriermaniac,do you keeper or work on a shoot or is your permission on a shoot,as you seem hell bent on killing your game. What kick do you get out of it,is it not enough to see your dog doing what it was bred for without killing them all.The sp
  9. Ive had a couple in tree's though,HAHAHA.
  10. dont worry about it Kevin just thought it of been handy i could of had a GOOD few drinks but not if im driving cant wait sounds like a good day out are ya far from ratharney ?? Its about half hour drive from raharney.
  11. Same as that scent, love to see a good terrier at its job,and then show upmost respect to its quarry, especially if its an educated one.Granted there are times when quarry have to be destroyed, farmers request or whatever, but me or the lads i dig with have no problem letting them run,and we get a lot more diging because of it.
  12. I like a hard dog,but with brains aswell.Must be able to find in any situation and stay untill dug to,even when he is not geting it all his own way,i also like to sink only the one drop so they have to be there when i break through, after that i dont care what type, colour or size they are.
  13. I say its normal for a bitch in pup.I have seen them go of there food for days while pregnant, also if lose in your garden will start to make a nest when near to whelping. They go silly in my mind.
  14. If thats your attitude to diging well then you should think about giving it up.There are times reasons when they have to be culled, but if you kill all you dig including pregnant vixon's at the end of the day your only killing your own sport. The lads with the rifle's and snares also poisin, not to mention the gun packs take care of enough foxs without us lads killing everything we dig.
  15. I would have them in the fields as soon as they are able to follow me.The more they get used to cattle, sheep and all stock the easier it will be when its time for them to start there diging life. How often have you seen it when a terrier that has not been brought out until its ready or at an age to be ready, stop at drains and wont cross, see cattle and run for its life, lose the plot when tied outside a dig,get it out early and save all the hassle when the time comes to enter it,then it will be calm and should consentrate on the job in hand without fear of anything else, and it can still be a pup
  16. Goldfinch, why would we want to lie,we would not be fooling anyone only ourselves at the end of the day.As for deadlock,2 doubles in 9 years of diging, not a very good cv is it.When he is at it as long as some of us on here then he can try take the piss, but until then he should listen and learn as we all have and still do.

    best show

Totally agree CG,best turn out of working terriers i have ever seen at any show, credit to the lads.
  18. Maybe we have a bit more freedom to dig where and when we choose, but these lads making an issue over 50.60 digs a season, there have been times ive had double figure digs in a week and its not uncommon.Whats the point in keeping terriers if you are not diging them.I dont keep them to look out the window at,and all my dogs get well and truly tested as does the lads i dig with.Lee micheal off here dug his black dog 3 times the 1 day last season, and none were handy digs,so the numbers dont be long building up.I think a lot is to do with leaving your earths as near to possible as the way you found
  19. That was my argument the whole time dee,if you keep jackers, breed from jackers, you end up with jackers.
  20. would 7 from the one earth count as all digs. I beat you by 1 mick,we had 8 from 1 earth in the month of november so adults, but still only counted as the one dig.We went back to same area 3 weeks later and could not find any of them, strange as we let them all go and i think i know every earth in the imediate area. good man i only having the craic donie, one dig is what it was but we and im sure you get the numbers up there.it not bout the numbers for us.but if they there what we supposed to do walk past them.not in my or the boys minds.ive been with the boys 3 years now and nothing was w

  22. i know what your saying but when your at the reds you have to do every hole you konw to get a hunt easy or not hepher that a good way of saying i only get 10 digs a season lol but i agree with both comments, some times ill check 50 holes in a day and get nothing and thats with tons of ground to go at so what chance does the chap/lad down the road have ? unless he digging in the towns ANYONE THAT KNOWS ME OR MY DIGGING PARTNER, KNOW THAT WE AVERAGE 30+ DIGS A SEASON TO EACH DOG. EACH DOG WILL ALSO HAVE HAD A FEW TESTING DIGS AMONGST THOSE. WE GET OUR HANDY 1s AS WELL AS OUR SHARE OF B
  23. Great looking set up stuntman, but as bd has mentioned be carefull with that mesh between the jump ups for the dogs as a terriers leg could be pulled through very easy, have seen it happen a good dog of my own,but nice clean set up.
  24. Any ive had or any that i have seen work tend to be on the hard side, lost a very good border dog 3 year ago after a very hard dig,dog died 2 days later.I found them a very good terrier to find in big places, great nose on them and stay forever.
  25. Like them russells smasher, right good looking grafters.
