Spot on dee, thats how it should be.

fat man my only problem was that that he was selling pups of a bitch that was still suckling ,if you look at mushrays pic you will see them Not having a go at anyone scent or standing up for nuttal, but if he is knocking out as much shite as people say he is,why are so many still buying pups from the man,he must be doing something write.
-
If what everyone is saying is true that nuttal is breeding shite pups and selling left right and centre, why is it that he is still a very sought after breeder of patterdales. He sells a lot to the states but,he sells a hell of a lot in england and ireland so they cant all be shite or people would stop buying and word would travell fast to steer clear because he is breeding shite.

Fair comment FM but how long does a terrier have to stay underground so as not to become a jibber, ie 1hr, 2hs, 3hrs etc. Before the locater came on the scene i often had them to ground well over a day before finially geting to them.
-
No hounds, just the terriers and lurchers. The lurchers will mark them if there in.I had a few hounds years ago and we accounted for a lot of foxs then but i found them a pain in the arse when trying to dig and there in on top of you and just been a nuisence so i got shut of the hounds.

We usually bring 3 workers out on a day and dig the 3 of them most times or at very least we dig to 2 of them, there is days you will get caught at a deep one and maybe only get 2 digs.I dont like puting a dog to ground in the late afternoon as im not into diging in the dark.If we are in an area where the earths are near to each other and are nice handy digs then a dog might get dug twice so you end up with 4 digs.We have plenty of ground the only prob is there are other lads diging in some of it as well, not good when starting young terriers as they could be entered to quarry that has been dug
-
Good strong looking terriers dev and well looked after by the look of them.

K9 i can remember one incident a long time back when i had a very hard dog to ground and it ran under a slap of a silage pit.We had to get a consaw and compresser and jackhammer to get to the dog.In all the dog was to ground for nearly 7 hours and never once moved from his quarry which was exactly what i expected of him.I had an old dog recently that done 3 days to ground in a shore and took a hell of a lot of punishment for his trouble. He came out himself after 3 days as i could not locate him or enter another dog with collar on as this dog would not tolerate another dog to ground.K9 if you

Would you like to be down 4ft on a 6ft dig then look behind to see the terrier staring at you,i would'nt,and a dog that does that is a quiter,no ifs or buts, pure and simple quiter and lancer if you can call it something else you keep a very poor standard of terrier.
-
A lot depends on the ground your working..ie.deep shallow and the amount of ground you've got to work. Also the type of terrier you work.Where i em from the game is well educated as a lot of lads diging the area so a bayer just would not be able to hold game till dug to so it requires a dog with that extra gear so dogs get laid up from time to time.We still average around 60.70 digs a season which is not bad but nothing near what the hunt lads are geting.
-
Terrier still has to go in and find its fox whether it was ran in or been there al night.Thats the dogs job,and i dont think a hunted fox will give off any more scent than a fox that entered of its own accord.People make too many excuses for terriers,if they are not able to find or wont stay till dug then they are no good in my opinion.People have different standards regarding diging dogs, but i personally would not tolerate a dog that comes of its quarry no matter where or what the quarry is.Its my opinion and everyone to there own.

I worked for a hunt for 2 seasons about 23 year ago.The dog i used then was the same dog i used while out diging with the lads and he was no sounder. When with the hunt the fox either bolted or was accounted for end off and anyone that knew the dog would verify that.I think when a fox is ran to ground its the same as walking up to an earth with no hounds, the terrier does not know what put him in there, but a lot depends on who is handling and working the terrier.I will probably get slated for this but i think most hunts dont give a flying fcuk about the terrier or the man working it as long as e

West Meath Hunt Lurcher and Terrier show?
fat man replied to Good Man's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
If last year was anything to go by,there certainly wont be many disapointed as far as workers go.In all the years i attended shows around the country, last years Westmeath hounds show was the best display of working dogs i had seen in shows ever. The class for black terriers was 1 example with if im correct, over 40 terriers in the ring and all with signs of work on them.Entry fee very cheap at 5euro and you have the bar n bbq so wont be hungry or thirsty.I dont go to too many shows anymore but this is 1 i would'nt miss and recomend it to anyone into working dogs. -
mind neil you digging to soft meath foxes and not proper ballymacad foxes... From what i and my diging partner seen of the diging in finea last year by the ballymacad's,it was not very impressive, mind you if the young chap was left alone to get on with it id say he would do the job no bother.
-
Moorsman if you read my post you will know what i think of terriers of that calibre, but as someone has just said i am not the one feeding them.If k9 is happy with his lot then thats his buisness, they definatly would not suit my diging.FM.

FORGET IT LADS. JUST PUT THE REP,OF IRELAND INTO IT YOU'LL NEVER BEAT THE IRISH.

Thanks for the reply's lads,i have tried the ointment but will give the seaweed a try, cheers again lads.

Cheers,i would try anything at this stage, its a shame really as he is a very good worker.

Fat man, a few of the keepers i know will not let you touch the dens with a spade. This way they can use these dens year after year without having to go looking for them. Even if you offer to put them right after dropping a hole, they wont let you do it. This is when a bayer or bolter comes in handy, yis Del. I know regular diging of earths does limit the number of foxs you will get in,but i always do my best to leave them as near as possible to the way i found them. Then a keeper has a job to do so its his call in the end,but i would sooner i dig than 10 bolts, then im not a keeper just lik

Ok folks i have a patterdale dog that keeps loosing its coat, and i mean practically bald.Ive had him to 3 different vets, spent a shit load of money and still no different. He will come perfect, lovely full coat and jumping with health, then he will just go dead in himself and loose al his coat again. He has been tried on every type of food i can think off incase it was a protein thing, and he has never scratched or tore at himself.I have tried at least 6 different washes including sheepdip but to no avail. The last vet and she had tried everything, told me it could be a stress disorder or a form of a
-
Its all about reading your dog.I wouldnt keep any of my dogs that i keep at the moment in for an hour without getting a mark and digging. But 10 years ago that would be normal practice.Fact.A keeper mite have 50 dens to check in a season,+a week to do so.He (i)needed a terrier or terriers to do the job.Not a dog that would get f****d up on the first day. But like i said before I like a dig before a bolt. And anyone that knows me knows that.clachan Fair enough clachan, honest answer.

im sure he will be over the moon with that bit of usless information Maybe you would like him to give there whereabouts on here, they would'nt last till next season.
