  1. All depends on whats been poached, fur feather or fish,a gaff or customised fork is a good tool for the salmon,or a gill net.A lurcher of the right sort should have no bother filling the freezer, many, many ways to fill the pot.
  2. He helped himself alright, just look at the amount of dogs and pups he sold after that programme,he was not heard of before it.Would you bring a stranger in to your house that was after disapearing for a few days after watching a couple of digs, then turn up again with a lame excuse saying his fcuking van was robbed and used in a robbery then take him out diging again,i know i would'nt.
  3. thats the pic just wondered if there where any more out there. A friend of mine had a glen of imaal x beagle accidental litter about 8 or nine years ago-one turned out very like a small irish terrier and the other one a lot like a working type wheaten.Id say theyd have very good noses. What sort of temperment had they tinytiger,as the few glens ive seen were not to be trusted about other dogs, and the beaglex would id imagine be worked in a pack.
  4. I would say any lad in hunt service would do most of their diging while out stoping the day before a hunt than on the actuall hunt days. They do get a lot of diging in,but most of it is behind the scenes and like i said not on hunt days.Where as the ordinary joe soap will dig every chance they get regardless. As for the type of terrier either man keeps, well that is intirely up to the individual himself.
  5. Bullxrussell are as good as any if they dont come too big. They may tend to be a bit on the hard side, but if they work im sure you can put up with a hard terrier.
  6. The bitch i had would miss on her first few runs as she was very fast and would overrun the rabbit ,but after a few runs she would get her act together and a good few would have been taken from there seat.Where i lamped there were loads of rabbits.A young chap used to come with me an odd night with his 3quarter collie quarter whippet dog,it could turn on a sixpence and go all night, very efficent on the bunny's.
  7. What sort of catch rate would ye lads expect of a lamping dog, bitch with conditions right and plenty of rabbits on the ground.I had a dhxgh bitck that could take 20 or more in a nights session, would that be good or fair or bad, dont lamp much anymore so just curious.
  8. Do deben still do repairs for the old mark 1 knocker box,i have at least 4 of them and none working.
  9. tell you this neil some of the boyo s i drink with 15 euro do them a long time and they are still the drunkest men in the place come closing time everytime a pint is quarter full they disappear too toilets or for a smoke you d nearly think they were from cavan ps a friend of mine once said drink is never dear when you need it Oh Dee, I didn't know you drink with the Fatman, LOL. Neil your that tight you squeek when you walk, lol.
  10. Cant argue with that as i never worked rock piles, and from some of the pics ive seen in edrd i would not want to.I would say everytime you stick a terrier into one of them the prayer book is out, lol.
  11. As dee said its all down to the standards you set yourself, let it be hunt terrier man or ordinary joe soap.I have seen terriers that lads own and would call good, that i would not rate at all. Then the same lads would not keep what i use, everyone has a different opinion of a worker. Some like hard, some like sounders and then you have a minority that like a terrier that will come out or be called out after half an hour.I think its down to the individual that is working terriers, let it be hunt or otherwise, everyone differs.
  12. They might have hold of something they could not retrieve, all pre ban of course.
  13. Has anyone ever used an elumines collars on there dogs while lamping. We used to make our own, they were very handy for locating the dogs while at big game, espesially in wooded areas.
  14. Not talking about the pub neil, two completely different things.
  15. Whose the terrier and lurcher judge's this year, and will they be away from all the other activities like last year.
  16. Brian jones, very good with greyhounds, most lads around the midlands area use him.He has a clinic in blackrock in dundalk also a couple more around dublin, should not be hard to get a nunber for him in the book, also a vet called berry, austrailian chap has a practice in stratton or straffon in kildare.Hope this helps.
  17. Agree with you mick,15euro is a bit steep and a recession on.

    My Home .

Been to the isle of man 4 times, really enjoyed it each time and as you say scenery is lovely.Went once when the tt was on ,too busy then,no comfort in the pubs around douglas.Drink is dirt cheap, food aswell.
  19. Working terriers is the same as any other sport involving dogs there is always someone in it just for a quick buck, and they dont care who or where they buy and sell let alone care about the animal there selling.I would say a lot of terriers travel up and down the country changing hands maybe 4.4 times before they are kept or pts.In the long run its all about money to them, nothing else and who they can bluff in the process.
  20. well said and the way it should be imo once you sell a dog thats it you ve washed your hands of it and i think the proper lads think more about the future than a few pound in there pocket that goes just as quick as it goes in were as if you gift a pup too someone genuine all being well you ll hear of its progress for many years and maybe even use it to produce more working dogs for the future plus i never seen a millionare who made it dealing pups and dogs from a back yard. When my dogs were stolen a man who is now deceased phoned me out of the blue and offered me a working terrier. He ha
  21. I have just bred a litter of woodcockterrers for sale kingcharles x teckel x cocker x russels woodencockers am calling them any offer start a £500 a pup What colour are they,if they not choc they wont sell, lol.
  22. I remember you kept a few of them, would not draw their breath let alone anything else.lol
  23. Try shooting a woodcock or partridge in heavy cover at range then see if your bushing terriers will pick it up,would they fcuk.
  24. A lot of men use them now neil,i think its the springer for strenth and the cocker for drive, but they are a good combination,i see a fair few of them work every friday from september on up in pk shoot.
