Clachan if i had a dog to ground for up to an hour i would be inclined to dig to it,not sit waiting for a bolt.

When they come away after half an hour they are jackers end of no excuses,what addition would they be say if you were 3ft down on a 6ft dig to find the dog behind you on the sod.People that keep that sort of dog,well thats there buisness,but if they breed these and then sell them on as workers then its a different ball game,more shite been knocked about.A terrier that walkes of a fox after 20..30min is in my opinion not worth its grub.

Fat man, i dont mean to put any dog in a situation thats is impossible but here is an example. Last season hounds marked to ground to what i thought was a good wee spot. I slipped the bitch in and after she settled i got a mark of 4ft or so and started to dig. After i dug 4" of spoil i felt a clang. There was reinforced concrete here. This turned out to be an old air raid type shelter buried and it was nigh impossible to dig so i had to sit for around 2 hours before my wee bitch came out. Now, if this bitch had stayed i would have been knacked. I understand the point of having a dog to complet

K9 why would you put a terrier in a situation where it is impossible to dig to it.Thats ok if you have a dog that can finish a job without been dug to'but to enter a terrier that cant is silly imo,ok grand if you can call it off after an hour or 2 when you see that a bolt is not on but other wise its just a waste and if your dog is a mixer its just taken stick for no reason.

Do you use leaded or unleaded petrol,ive got a johnson as well and i find it runs a lot better on ordinary leaded petrol.I also change the plugs every year,it might just have been dirt in the carb that released itself.

I would say a lot would depend on the buyer,if they looked for a cert for the pup being docked by a registered vet,some might not even ask but then there's always 1.

Good reply! Would you say that terriers that are on the larger size are harder started? You no what i mean?less room to move,having to push himself into the hole? I think its down to the mentality of the terrier,you'll see some that are tearing the sod of to get goin and others have to begently coaxed along.A large type will struggle to go in a small earth if it has no experience,where as a small one can travel through the tubes easy enough without having to push on or dig its way up to its quarry.We always try to pick the right earths to start entering a young dog,somewhere they will ha

When mine got stolen,N.COONEY,done all he could do to help me out,and only 2year back i had 1 to ground whose transmitter fcuked up and neil and his mate made the journey down to help me try get my dog out.I know what its like to get robbed,i lost between adults and pups ii dogs in the 1 night,its very hard to come back from that.But the scum that took them they dont care about you me n,cooney or anyone else,there just pure SCUM.

As bd said,cold hard rain will put them in,but it is down to luck a lot of the time also known the good earths that hold fox on a regular basis.

I dont think it does a young terrier any harm to have a look in a stopend,after al they have to know there's something in there worth traveling for.But in sayiny this i also think once or twice is enough as they can get to fond of the short end and not want to travel.Some will enter themselves more need a little encouragement,its al part an parsel of entering a young dog.JMHO.

coursing dogs as in saluki based types in general :thumbs: id like to see a 90lb coarser lol Most coursing dogs that are ran in park coursing are well in the 90lb range,when you consider a tracker can be 70lb odd.

Are you talking lurchers or coursing ghounds,as i think a big 90lb dog would have no problem with taking a fox,there biggest prob wud be catching it as they would need a football field to turn,haha.

At least it was a lesson learned,i think most of us if were honest have made mistake's and you were lucky in that you did'nt spoil him.

What if a dog is say 5..6 year old and has never made a mistake and you breed a litter from him to your best bitch,then when the pups are born a well on say 6 months this same dog comes of its quarry for the first time,you try it again and it does the same,what do you do with the litter you bred of this dog.Do you run them on for another 8..10 months till there ready to start or do you get shut of them straight away.

16 may last year near seen her and l wont see them back now it would make u want to pack it in Know what it feels like,i was completely wiped out in one night and never seen any of them again.

I think if every man.women were honest with themselves they would all have failure's at some stage.I had a very good little black dog years back,who was hard as nails,but if there was a rabbit in a earth he would stay diging on to it till you dug him,it happened a couple of times,very annoying.I then had to be carefull where i let him in.For his size he showed no respect for fox or other quarry,his only fault was the rabbit's.Would he be counted as a failure.
