  1. Have a pattxbull which i dug to maybe 12.15 times last season. He is a hard bugger and i have now noticed a hard lump on his underjaw about the size of a marble. He had been opened up on the lower jaw a few times while working and now this has appeared.Should i lance it or just leave it be as it does not seem to be affecting him in anyway.
  2. She has been lucky so far to get away without taking any stick, but she wont always get away scot free, hold her up until she is mature enough to take a bite then you could have a real good bitch on your yard.
  3. And any man that says they have'nt are liars.I brought a bitch from england in the late 90s and dug her the very next day,she was 13 months. Then i was perswaded to dig to her again 3 days later and she done her job but took a lot of stick in a bad place under roots.I gave her about 6 weeks off then but when i took her out again she did'nt want to know.A good bitch spoilt by stupidity.
  4. Nice litter all the best with them.
  5. zantal wormers are only 2 euro in my local ,just a good as the expensive dronotal You are dead right scent and if you compare the ingredients in the zantal and the drontal they are almost identical, vets a f*****g rip off.
  6. Apart from 1 been domenint over the other it is also dangerous.I have seen a couple of good dogs killed over the years while been doubled up.Seen 1 killed of a concrete fence post where the second dog nudged the first 1 while trying to strike its fox.Seen another killed of the corner of a bridge, you know the ones they are about 18in of the ground and mainly over drains, same thing again 1 dog turned tight pushing the other into the bridge.I seen my own dog kill a friends in the day time where both were sliped on a bolting fox in a small wood, just as the fox was about to make cover my dog made a
  7. A terrier that comes off its game and starts to go in and out working it for a while and then coming away is shite,so best thing to do is nip it on the bud straight off.Do the right thing and dont pass it on for someone else to maybe breed of it.I have seen dogs come out to try find an easier way to get to there fox, well thats not as big a sin as geting there and then coming away,at least they want to be with there quarry. With the amount of dogs thats been bred lately, and the amount thats been bought and sold its geting harder to find proper working stuff, too much shit been bred from dogs that
  8. Have to agree with johney.boy,a lurcher that kills fox's even consistainly is not what i would call game.Just look at the size and weight difference whereas when 2 dogs were pitted to fight they were matched to within a couple of lb and the same with game fowl they are matched to within a couple of ounces of each other, and they will fight to the finish.I know all that was many year ago now,but they were both bred for gameness alone and nothing else. The lurcher is the same as a greyhound, bred to chase and catch but are very seldom over matched usualy the oppisite.
  9. I would say every hunting man in ireland including myself jab their own dogs, vets a rip off,45euro a shot,i get the 7in1 for 9euro apiece, also the zantal+ wormers, same as the drontal but half the price.
  10. I kept 2 last year and fed them for very little.I was geting all the left overs from a bakery and also loads of carrots that were graded and under size.I was also lucky in that a piggery just a few mile away was closing up and he gave me the meal left in the silo which was almost ton and half for free. They killed out at 15 stone at just over 5 months old.I could not keep them any longer as i needed the space they were in.They cost me 180euro to get killed and ready for the freezer,so not bad as i filled a huge freezer aswell as giving plenty away to friends and family. There is a hell of a lot
  11. Who gives a fcuk what the terrier is called as long as it workes to its owner's needs.I think if people concentrate more on working ability than what breed it is or who bred it the terrier world would be better of.
  12. Nice pups mac hope they go well for you.
  13. As someone has already said cubs would run a terrier ragged in a big earth this time of year, also the ground is very dry and hard for diging, not good for a dogs confidence when it cant keep with its quarry to bottle it up.I seen on more than one occasion good dogs get beat by cubs for this reason and unless the digger is prepared to open up holes everywhere to try and narrow down the movement and try and get the cubs blocked off it is hard on a dog,but saying that they should not come away.I dont or wont dig this time of year so not a problem, roll on the winter.
  14. That dog looks the buisness, pity he ended up where he did.
  15. Tryed to enter a dog in a good sized earth once and he would just go in so far and start growling and come back out. This dog had been dug to a hell of a lot so i knew something was not right.I tried him again and he done the same so i put him back on the lead and walked away about 30yds from the earth. After only a few minutes a collie bitch with 2 good sized pups bolted from the earth. She had been living wild and was using the earth as a shelter, they were later shot by the farmer for damage they were doing to sheep and lambs, had one another day that pulled out a dead swan the fox had brought i
  16. If you think its bad now you should have seen it 30year ago, haha but he was still puting out good dogs then terrires.n.lurchers,mind you how he knew what way some were bred was beyond me. i hear the dogs were alot bigger that time and more of them If i remember correctly he kept what looked like deerhound types,i think he also kept irish terrierxs and he started breeding the wheatonxs then aswell.
  17. If you think its bad now you should have seen it 30year ago, haha but he was still puting out good dogs then terrires.n.lurchers,mind you how he knew what way some were bred was beyond me. i hear the dogs were alot bigger that time and more of them I remember the first time i was ever in phils yard was to pick up 2 fell pups. The dam was with the pups and when i asked about the sire he pointed to a black dog that was running around with about 50.60 more black terriers all loose,i had to laugh and so did he,pups actually were very good in the end.He had some amount of lurchers there that

  19. Legs are the first thing you throw out of your way, haha only messing.Ive seen big terriers get where small ones would'nt go.if they want it bad enough they will get there, might just take a bit longer.
  20. Keven and dee.mac i totally agree with both your comments. There is too many that dont give a dog the chance it deserves, and also if im out diging and i or any of the lads i dig with have a failed terrier the final deed is not done in the field, not on my permission anyway, call me soft but thats the way it is.How long is enough time with a terrier to say its not going to make the grade.I would start a young terrier at around 14months in september and give them to the new year to show me if its in them and by then you would have a good idea of what you have.I think september is not the greatest m
  21. Dont think the farmers or keepers would be too happy about that suggestion, also everyone would lose their permission.f**k the ban keep diging.
  22. why look for a fight instead of telling them its your permission,i think you will be the one lucky if you meet the wrong people poaching He did'nt get the chance to tell them it was his permission, they ran haha when he approached them.
  23. If you work a hard dog twice a month allowing it to heal properly for a 6 month season as we start september finish in febuary thats in or around 12 digs as was stated at the start, why work a dog sore when all that will happen is it will jack, different story with sounders.
  24. The last time i bred a litter of pups was labs. The bitch had 9 so i weaned them of her at 4 to 5 weeks.I fed minced beef n tripe with plenty of lamb lac milk replacer and they trived on it,also from 3 weeks worm them every fortnight at first,i used parazan syrup, hope this helps.
