FAIR POINT DEE MAC BUT THE POINT THAT WAS TRYING TO MAKE WAS NUTTAL HAS HIS STILE OF TERRIER WITCH I BELIEVE HAS NOT CHANGE IN 30 OR 40 YEARS ANYTHING OFF HIS YARD ALL LOOK THE SAME The dogs that BN has bred in the last 10-15 years have little or no resemblence to what he was breeding 30-40 year ago, just look at the size difference he now breeds to suit a certain market mainly america.I have seen stuff he bred over 30 year year ago and there is no comparision. they do fat man exactly the same and in the wtyb he was still going on about terriers that are to big 30 odd years ago Do

Nothing is perfect or bomb proof not even the b&f,collar can fail through been bit through or locater can fail then its handy to have the t-bar about. We might not always have it at the dig but its never far away and as the old saying goes,[better to be looking at it than looking for it.

Prison sentence too good for them Gem,how i would love to have the job of punishing these scumy b*****ds.

Are you saying that a young 1st season dog should be able to find the same as a seasoned terrier.I have seen young dogs lose there quarry in big places and not be able to find again and not through lack of gameness just lack of experience and when a seasoned dog is entered they find relativaly easy.Pre-ban when other game was legal to dig i have seen dogs come away from there game giving it time to get dug in and it then takes a real experienced dog to locat it again.Nobody knows what happens under the sod when the terrier is working its game, tubes can cave in between dog and quarry resulting

how to put out some of the fire out a black dog
fat man replied to patterdaleboy's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
A lot of terriers start hard and remain hard for as long as they work, but putting more in front of them or working them sore wont change there style of work imo it will just ruin them.If the dog in question is as hard as he says then it can only be dug every 3-4 weeks as it will need time to heal, but as i have often said before peoples definition of hard differs and others will say there dog took a right pasteing and it maybe only a few tips on the nose, everyone has a different opinion. -
Hope Tom gets them back, met him at a wedding a couple of year back great chat and craic with him,few weeks later he sent me down a terrier pup, true gentleman.

Strange things you have found or seen while digging
fat man replied to howsshefrom's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Once dug to a terrier to grips with a dead swan, reckon foxy had it stored for later, also dug 1 of them bob tail cats in an earth about 30 year ago how it got there i dont know but gave the terrier a right goin over, big f****r he was. -
I reckon there are still plenty of Frank's around, espesically in these recession times.
-
I would say its a lot to do with the work they do under the sod,its bound to take its toll on them.I had a red lakey type bitch that was hard as nails and in the end died from kidney failure brought on according to the vet by the stress from working to ground.

Ireland clonmel coursing festival
fat man replied to robadoo's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Dee a friend off mine from the local village has a bitch through to Clonmel,{YUKON GLORY} hope she does well for him. -
Dont think there is such an animal as a bolting terrier, any terrier will bolt a fox, hard or yapper as long as the fox has a way out away from the dog then it will go.Had a bolt from a shore only last week by a very hard terrier, bullx only for the fox to re enter same shore again and 2nd time round it did not get the chance to bolt.Once seen a smallish collie get up an earth about 5-6 ft and lay there barking its head off and after a few min foxy bolted further down from a different exit,as i say if it can get out it will go dont matter what sort of terrier is behind it.
-
Yes but people's definition of a working bull differ.
-
Graham i 1st started off with bullxrussells back in the mid 70s as thats what was about at the time for diging with the odd border or irish terrier x.There were also some wheatens on the go then around me but none of the diging lads seemed to use them in there earth dogs as they said they were too aggresive towards other dogs compared to the bullxs. Now the wheatenx i had was an aggresive b*****d as anyone that knew the dog will vouch but in the ground he was as good as i ever seen before or since.I now also hav a bullxpatt dog 4 year old and a very good dog to ground, hard as nails but thats to
-
In my experience a fox will only bolt if it can with nothing in front of it,but if a terrier pushes a fox up into a stopend it should not let it past him or her and a dig should be the finished product. As already has been mentioned a terrier that will let a fox push it about an earth is imo not 100% reliable and would not be kept by me,then im speaking for myself, what dont suit me could be usefull to someone else.
-
Never counted but he would have been up into double figures each season but also would be in sick bay at times all depended on the dig, some were shallow some were testing, depends on where we were on the day,he was often dug twice in a day in shallow spots then given a bit of time to recoup. He had the head of a wheaten and the build of a lakey so was strong and well able to take most of what was put in front of him without making a fuss..
-
Best of luck with the bitch Mustard, hope she keeps doin the buiss for ya.
-
As a 1stx they would probably come a reasonable size for earth work but to find the right glen that has been tested to the max would be the hardest job imo.I have dug over pure glens 30 odd year ago and they were not bad but i have also seen wheatens work and as i said no comparision, anyway hows your season goin mustard.
-
Well john, interesting stuff!! Do you know of a glenn dog doing the business?it would be a better cross,if you could get the wright minerals? Mustard, how would it be a betterx, the glens were never tested like the wheatens, not saying that the glen is a bad dog but no comparision to a working wheaten.

No pics sorry, even if i had could not put them on here,he was strong but not over big got most places without much bother.
