Does anyone know of pick axe lines
fat man replied to Chopper2575's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I dug over all 3 terriers in question, was actually on Chilli's 1st dig.I know the chap that bought Chilli and he phoned me up asking what she was like before he bought her.I told him exactly what I had seen of her and that I could not fault her as she had never come away for the period of time had had seen her work, and I seen her dug plenty and also well testing digs. The Jack dog was also dug to plenty and when sold was 7 year old if memory serves me right and the 1 fault I could pick with him was that on occasion he would false mark as he was a bit too anxious when in the ground but he also n -
Strong terriers Bryan, best of luck with the pups, have you heard any word on freckles since he went to usa.

will i think your wrong fatman this is where the game is fcuked most decent men with decent terriers keep everything with he who hunt's together these cnuts say they have these big name terrier breeds but they are 99% shit bred with this an that???? these dog aren't borders with papers fs Wedgey you like me are intitled to your opinion. Its my opinion that if someone pays good money for a pup then that pup will get every chance goin to work where as if same person got it for nowt they would probably just say f this and knock it on the head before it got a proper crack of the whip,it owes

500 Sheets for the pup...... What price would you pay for a working dog? Stock broken, attended basic training classes, has done those agility courses, follows fox trail over ground, has stayed on over twenty digs over two years, now four years old and his house trained......... 20 digs in over 2 years,i would say the dog has not seen enough work and at 4 year old should have a lot more done'then again there are not many genuine men that will sell a working terrier.

Jesus Liam I personally pray you are never wiped out as the very thought of seeing you in a leotard wrapped around the sign post in cork is frightening to say the least, lol.

This argument over the price tag on a pup will go on forever.I personally think that if someone wants to sell there pups for whatever price they require then its there business, they are not bending anybody's arm in the process of selling them.I am well aware of how things are in the present day climate with unemployment and all that as I mysely am currently on the dole but if I knew where there was a litter I really wanted a pup from I would make it my buisnees to get the cash.£250-£300 is a lot of money when you have not got it but for a pup from good honest working parents and a good line of

What Makes A Good Diging Dog
fat man replied to stevensansom's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
How long are you diging, how many have you owned, and what do you call a good diging dog, everybody has different standards. -
When my own dogs were stolen we done almost every site that we were told held the same name as the people responsible for robbing them.On 1 occasion in Roscommon town we entered the site at 12 midnight,6 of us along with 6 guards who I have to say were more than happy to help out but we were out of luck as the people had moved on.Thats the trouble with travellers, they are on the move the whole time and it makes it very hard to catch up to them, they move from the rep to the north and also across to England so easy to move dogs within a few hours of been robbed. The end result was I never got my

There was a situation a few year ago where dogs were robbed[lurchers] on a chap I know who lives about 4 mile away.He got information that the dogs were on a site in the fingles area of Dublin so along with 2 local Garda he and his hunting mate headed up.1st stop was the Garda station in fingles where they were told what happened and that he believed his dogs were on this site, the guards in fingles did not want to know and said they would not enter the site just to get a couple of dogs back as it would cause too much hassle and maybe start a riot. Then the 2 local Garda and the 2 lads went them

Had a dog a few year ago{BUTCH} that lost its front leg right up at the shoulder. The stump eventually healed and Butch was dug to on several occasions afterwards, right up to its quarry every time, only time it hindered him was walking to and fro from the earths.

got to agree. if you dig it up just to let it go you dont have a leg to stand on when Mr Townie comes along and says its cruel because your only doing it for your own pleasure imo. either do the job properly or dont do it at all. too many people take the sport to heart it's not a job,,,,,, it's a HOBBY,,,,, you don't shoot yourself on the foot for the next time when hunting and if you do kill/shoot all try put back in what you take out it keeps the circle going your never going to dig to every single fox in the are in one winter anyway are you? If you were out with the terriers

Seen hounds at the farney show on sunday last,at least up to 10 hounds stuck in a galvinized trailer in that heat, better off at home in the shade.
-
That's a bold statement BGWM as there are a lot of lads on here that will say the opposite,a sounder beats a head on type anyday but then again everyone has there own opinion,i would have to side with you,who gives a flying fook what it looks like aslong as it does what it was bred for.
-
Fair play to ya Liam for putting that up,this stealing of dogs is not going to stop until some of them scummy b*****ds that are doing it are left wondering was it worth it.The worst thing about it is someone knows where that dog is,they hav either bought it or else they are part of the c**ts that robbed it.

sounds a handy dog fat man have you any pics Could not or would not put pics on here Brog.

I have in my yard a 1stx pattxstaff, very good diging dog coming up to 5 year old. This dog is smaller than any of the black terriers I keep and has a lot of serious diging over him in the last 3 half seasons. Can be dug pretty often even though he is mute and finds and stays in any type of earth big or small. We actually dug to his dam on a few occasions while short on diging dogs.A lot of lads knock the bullx's saying they are to big and to hard for earth work but with proper care when choosing the actual dog and bitch for the mating they are actually a handy little diging dog.Anyone that has s

I find the more natural feed is growing on a pond the better it is for wild duck, depth is not an issue as duck will land on any water and stay as long as there is ample feeding for them. The only bonus point of view from a deep pool with island in the centre is it makes it a lot harder for a fox to get at them as the element of surprise is gone when he has to swim to get to them.Having your pool situated in a good flight line between maybe a couple of biggish lakes also helps, and then keep it to yourself and not have every man and his gun shooting it.Many years ago I found a great little pool t

Very easy to wipe out that particular type of quarry in an area over a very short space of time, not like fox where you could kill a couple today and by tomorrow 2 more would have moved in to same area from as far as 10 mile away.Hunting is not all about killing the quarry, not in my book anyway, with me im more interested in how the terrier works its quarry and happy to release as long as the farmer or land owner don't say otherwise.

3/4Grey1/4Collie On Foxes Pre Ban
fat man replied to Robert morrison's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Have seen plenty of greyxcollie take fox either from bolting from an earth or pushed from cover in daylight but on the lamp its a different story.Once they start getting the sharp end they soon lay back and just course the fox until it runs out of the beam, but doubled up they will account for plenty and will hunt up.They are also a usefull hound to mark an earth. -
Like it too Glyn, also like the fact that they are allowed to dig the stuff legally instead of been confined to just fox.

Would not keep a half hearted terrier or any type of dog that would not give 100%,as for a terrier with a bad mouth if it worked to the standard I want it would not bother me if it looked like a gremlin and was pink in colour.I reckon its this sort of thing that has the terrier world in a mess, too much emphasis on colour, size who bred it,if its bred for work and does just that then it should not really matter what it looks like.

Well Dee,a mate of mine that used to run a smallish shoot on bogland, pheasant, partridge and duck used to have the same prob with his pools. As you are aware growth in bogland is very fast so when not been used after the shooting season the pools became over grown very quickly. What he used to do was cut back as much as possible that was above the water level then he used to get a chain with hooks coming of it in different places and throw it out in the pool, let it sink and then attach to the quad and drag it to the side, much the same idea as dragging a river for weeds, but it worked very well and
