  2. It states on his post that they STARTED a dig to the bitch and STARTED a dig to the pup and then actually DUG to the bitch, read the post properly, and as far as geting wound up over the thread im too long in the game to let the likes of you wind me up,lol, happy hunting or diging to your super terriers.
  3. Gouldy you state that a farmer would not be a happy man if 3-4 holes were droped, well where did the man say he droped 3-4,he actually said he got a mark at .5 and letf it a while and new the bitch was not quite there but his bro started to dig and bitch showed. He then entered the pup and again just was gona start a dig and again pup showed and was lifted and he noticed that the pup had made contact in this particular place so entered bitch again where she went on to find and reach her quarry, end off,1 hole dropped, quarry accounted for.If she had stayed in the 1st place they would probably have
  4. No one really knows what goes on under the sod when they enter there terrier, maybe it was just too tight for the bitch to squeese through after the fox and she came out to try a different approach and it worked as she found again and the culprit was accounted for,as for the pup 1st time to ground it may have lost it after making contact or maybe not just got the bottle for it.I have seen dogs that are dug and dug hard season after season strugle on some fox when they just cannot reach them,a fox will get into very tight spots, unbelievable at times so just maybe she done the right move by comin
  5. Was on my local lake today{lough lene]for the 1st time this season to try for a trout or 2.My mate Eamon was with me and we were not out on the water 5 minutes when i was into a fish, reeled it in a netted and in the boat,a nice brown trout just under 3lb.The weather turned for the worse then but we battled on and Eamon landed a 2nd again touching 3lb.We then caught 3 more between us me 1 Eamon 2 and also lost a couple. The weather eventually got the better of us as we were wet and cold so called it a day after about 3 hours but a good start and looking forward to tea and a nice fresh trout.
  6. Just phoned a mate of mine who was able to give me some info on the tod dog that i had.Tod was of a bitch called Rags which belonged to BN and rags was mated to a lakeland dog called Jed that belonged to a chap called D Magee. As far as i know Rags was a grand daughter to the poker dog could be wrong but i do know that pokers blood was in there somewhere along the way,lol im not one for pedigrees,if they work to the standard i want thats good enough for me regardless of what the parents or ancesters were.
  7. Waterford was a very good show, plenty of working stuff at them and also lads that worked there dogs not posers. Does PD run this show? if so had a real good day there a few years back. Yes pd ran it when i used to go,that was a long time ago.
  8. Remember goin to a show in ballinlough about 20 or so year ago.Brian Nuttal was judging and it was ran by a very well known terrier man from the North of Ireland. It came to the class for the veteran's and i had brought along an old dog with me that had seen it all and worked up until his last days.As my daughter who was 5 at the time entered the ring the judge ran over to her straight away and ushered out of the ring saying she could not show the dog as he was too badly marked up.This dog was adout 14 at the time and had worked hard all his life so bound to have some battle scars, the same clas

  10. Had a dog that went back to phelens-nuttals poker dog.He was gave to me at 11 months old and at that stage working away.He was given to me by a man called D EDWARDS who was a mate of nuttals back then maybe still is as i have not spoken with D in a good many years. The dogs name was Tod and was a very hard mute type of worker,he ended up been stole on me along with a load more terriers, from what i remember there was lakeland in his breeding.
  11. Its a lesson learned so,dont show new earths to anyone else you dont trust,by the way,why did you not dig them yourself through the season instead of leaving them, maybe someone else found them accindental out shooting or ferreting and then went back and dug them.
  12. Lovely animals, ever see what they do to a pen of fowl ?,
  13. Totally agree with you, everything has a season in my mind. Many years ago a shooting man asked me if i would go and dig some cubs for him as they were in an area that he shot for pheasent,i said no and he actually got a bit strappy over it saying it was my job to do this as i kept terriers. This was in the month of may so i said no prob but can we go shoot a couple of pheasents 1st,he looked at me puzzeled and said, but pheasent season finished end of january,he then realized what i meant and said, now i see you also have a season for foxs,i replied yes.
  14. You may shoot some of them but you wont shoot them all.
  15. Well if you do run a shoot in your village god help the game birds your looking after if you dont or cant tell the difference between fox signs and badger signs.Look at the kick out for starters, then toilet pits very close to the earth + hair on branches or wire thats lying about near the earth also pad marks on the entrance all signs of badger + they will have a well worn path too and from the earth. If it were fox,Vixon with cubs for example, remains of dead animals such as hare, rabbit, lamb, also birds probably yours lol where the cubs would be feeding and the smell of fox to anyone with the sl
  16. If your terrier is goin in and out of it then you have nothing to worry about as either nothing at home or dog wont stay.
  17. See where someone said a border will use its heade and just bay its quarry, ive had the pleasure of diging over 3 very good borders down the years and all were as hard as any patt or any type of diging terrier.1st one came from a pet home in Dublin as the lady said it was annoying the neighbours cats. His name was Harry and 18 months old at the time.He was brought home on a saturday afternoon after work and took out next morn along with another terrier just to tag along and have a look.1st earth it ever seen it marked and was collered up and let go.Harry went and hit his quarry like a train and
  18. Brian Jones,he has a clinic in Blackrock,Dundalk, also has a clinic in Dublin somewhere.Sorry lost the No i had for him but he is very good and reasonable money wise.

  20. We had 3 digs to a small patterdale bitch belonging to wipeout off here and 1 dig to a little bullxpatt that belongs to another member of the team, next season will tell the tale on them 2,also gave the bullxs brothjer a look and he went very well but season has ended so hav to wait untill next season and 3 extra blacks terriers to start then aswell,so fingersx.
  21. Nowt should be getting them if you're keeping up with your pest control though Dont matter how much pest controll is done there will still be losses as you cant keep everything down, you can only try and keep it to a passable level and even at that there will be casaulties.A good friend of mine had a small shoot on which he released pheasant, partridge, and also had duck flights. He used to have a shoot day every friday and would release a certain amount of birds early in the week to adjust to there surroundings from a small release pen.1 night before he got to release his birds a badger payed
  22. I know of 1 man that is kicking the arse out of and still out with the lurchers every sunday with a pack of hounds, you probably know him as he hunted hares when younger with JK,PK, and many more,pk is his initials from county Meath,i myself done a lot of fox hunting with him for several years until he gave up the diging, also a very keen fisher man.
  23. Yes legal to shoot fallow using 220 swift in ireland.
  24. Do any of you lads use the 220 swift for small deer,as i have shot fallow with it and it seems quite capable knocking them where they stand at considerable distance.
