    Neil its not a big deal for anyone to take out the game at the end of a dig,i once had a dog that would bite you quicker than the quarry if you tried to lift him when he was up close.I dont think there is too many that wont get there hands dirty but some lads like to see there strng dogs or lurchers work in the end of a dig and if thats what they like then why knock it,everyone does different things while in the field.Is it not illigal to handle game at the end of a dig ?also if everyone told the truth we have all done it including yourself but some pricks take it another step and then it gets

    Some maybe late starters,but not all of them.We had a couple of borders of lads from the south of ireland some years back and they both self entered before 12 months old.I personally think its like any other terrier,i have seen some black dogs not enter until 2 year old and maybe with some not enter at all.I also think and this is jmo that it is an important factor in which the way the pup or pups are brought up to adulthood,locked away in a pen until there 14 months old wont do them any good,they need to be out in the field taking in all that is around them from an early age,i think they prog

There are men who go through the whole of their lives having never had a strongdog or a lurcher present on a dig. They are usual men who are brilliant with their hands and able to use a shovel. If the quarry is to be killed a firearms is used and if the quarry is to be relocated or freed they use their hands or step out of the way to let it by.     Never seen a pointerxspaniel work but neighbour had a labxpointer,very good dog on land and water,great dog on a winged bird or a runner,great stamina would go all day and worked cover like a springer but a lot more bidable.

    Running Sand is a nightmare but i have found that peat bogs are the worst as it can travell all over the place with the cracks in the peat and also very liable to flooding,a terrier can be very cold and wet after a dig in peat.

    Good looking pack you got there FD but just out of interest,would you not have 2 different hunts goin on with the harriers been a lot quicker on there feet than say the beagles or the terriersxs.I ask because a friend of mine used to keep a mixed pack of harrier and also had 3-4 beagles and you would always have 2 different hunts on the 1 fox,also the beagles if the fox was ran to ground were b*****ds for goin to ground after it.I bet ye do some pest control with that little pack,atb for the season.

    Well done the bitch Bull,great when they do a good job in an awkward place.Had a 16mth old pup out on Sunday bred from the bitch I had to retire.We droped her in what we always regarded as an easy place but this time it went under a huge beech tree and it was 2hr+ when we finially broke through to her well in control.I was well pleased as that's both bitchs dug to at 1st time of asking.

    We had a little blackntan bitch over 30 year ago that was a very good terrier on all game but if it was a cold day and you broke through to her you had to grab her straight away or she would be off through the earth to curl up and sleep and pointless trying to drop a hole to get her as she would just move to a different place in the end we would not feed her evening before hunting and always brought something tasty next day so she would hop out knowing she was getting a treat.

    im in balla co mayo fatman plenty of deer not far from me, plenty of shooters to so bucks like that dont come often, saw another 1 like him yesterday evening but he was on a island so hes still there. where r u. Westmeath Steve,i have both fallow and reds on my permission but some of it is tough goin.There is a lot of places about me which hold fallow but a lot of shooters know them aswell,lol,with the reds im the only one allowed on the land where they are.

    Just wondering how everyone's season is goin so far.Seems a lot a finding it hard to find game to ground as are ourselves.We have been at it since start of September and have got on average 2 digs per outing but same time last season had a lot more diging done.I know its early days but most I have spoken with say the same.

    Maybe so but without good breeding behind the dogs in the 1st place you wound not have the good dogs to talk about.Any man can put a dog across a bitch and produce a worker or 2 but to do it consistently each time you breed and to keep the same line of dogs goin takes a bit of know how would you not agree.
