  1. He's what's called a "coursing dog" or "fen dog" on this side of the pond. The makeup is mostly saluki and greyhound but the breeding of most lines traces back to the late 70's or early 80's and going back that far there are often bits of other breeds too, some lines throwing broken coated and "wooly" dogs. More important than breeds is performance and they are bred to run hares single handed though they can excel at other quarry too. People try to get pups from sires and dams that have run well and that have similar breeding. Family trees usually show the same names coming up several times o
  2. Fook me, only took a decade but I finally agree with summat ye wrote haha
  3. Never used a dropper, never would and certainly wouldn't "handicap" a quarry. As for helping out on large game that's a different point altogether. When hunting big stuff was legal it was way more humane to finish things quickly rather than leave it to the dog or dogs. I pretty much agree with your second paragraph though......
  4. WTF is that Haymin? I see you've got it on your arm too.
  5. Shit,,,sorry mate,,I was being a sarcastic fecker,,,I assumed everyone realised,,after I ripped the shit out of socks a d Lloyd ,,for having a scan,,,I honestly think there a waste of money... Anyway good luck with the pups,,it will be a busy time ,,there will be a big litter in there 8 or more,,possibly more than10 I wanted her scanned mate its cost me £15 all In.Now the vet has seen the dog all I have to do is ring them if I need anything, front line, wormer, jabs ect. so pups get the proper gear exactly when they need it with out any messing about. Although the bitch is big I was concern
  6. Me too and I've always liked Keeganrees's bitch too.
  7. Has Millet still got them? He doesn't seem to post these days.
  8. Hi Remyd, 10 mins is probably enough swimming to begin with anyway. If you try yourself 10 mins walking and then 10 mins swimming you'll know the difference. Swimming is slower but heavier pushing. One of my own bitches got injured towards the end of last season, colliding head on and splitting muscle. I won't go into the early 1st aid as it doesn't apply to your case but when the healing started there was a lump on the muscle and then a dent under her skin. I swim the dogs through a river pool anyway a couple of times most days before exercise at this time of year because of the heat. I then
  9. Hat swayed it for me was that bird said keep the red one ... I knew then it had to be the merle lol ..... I picked the merle from my last litter, hes turned out a cracker! Cheers, D. I can't see his last rib. You've got him too fat.
  10. They are. I particularly like the look of the first fawn one, with the darker face and slightly stronger build.
  11. This should work https://www.donedeal.ie/dogs-for-sale/deerhound-type-lurchers/12549758 Nice deerhoundy looking pups. I think the sire must be second cross back to deerhound.
  12. Oh, and in answer to the query, make sure the worming's done and enough fat in the diet, add a good pinch of seaweed powder to the food and brush out loose hair each day, especially at this time of year. Some colours shine up easier than others. Black is usually easy, fawn not easy. Brindle is good because of the black in it. Beddy grey type fur is often linty and hard to shine up.
  13. Let me know if you do. I'll hop on the ferry and over to Cumbria to see that .
  14. What a cracking shop, good stuff Morton, thanks for putting that up. x 2. A proper leatherware shop. http://www.hargreavesandson.co.uk/category/leatherwork/
  15. Maybe it came on the ferry from Ireland? There're plenty here in places.
  16. I've found this thread more interesting than any on the forum for the last few weeks. The most telling post IMHO was the one pointing out that the cheapest working dogs (ie. lurchers and terriers) are the most common breeds to be found in rescue centres by far, (except for pure mongrels which are even cheaper) Think about it. Good luck with the litter Socks. Hope you get good homes for them.
  17. Not in my eyes , id pay the stud fee just for the pup id be keeping and not worry about getting the money back from the pups .. Fancy a game of cards sometime Chid?
  18. That makes a lot of sense but a to go a bit off the subject, why don't you have Tweed as your username? You're well north of the Tyne.
  19. http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/SearchResults?kn=lurcher&sts=t Thats a link to Abe books. The trouble with lurcher books is that most of them are rubbish and out of what's left the majority are only suitable for pet owners or are written in a dull way. (Think "watching paint dry"). I'd recommend the John Holmes one. It's not specifically about lurchers or hunting but a good training book. The Phil Drabble one (pedigree unknown) is OK too.
  20. You might turn something up and good luck with it. No-one likes a good looking runner more than I do but you'll find that people on here will be more interested in what a dog can do than what it looks like.
  21. The old rag racers got them going to a towel pretty much from the nest. The trick is to give em just enough to get them keen but not enough to piss them off with it. That's what I reckon anyway. I always introduce pups to most things at a young age but keep it fun rather than serious.
  22. The thing with collies, and especially border collies, is that they vary so much in both physical build and even more in temperament, that it depends on the strain of collie more than the breed.
  23. His forum name is Magpie but he hasn't been active on here since 2015.
