  1. It's basicly a swelling in the hock joint and can have various causes so I'm afraid I'm not much help here. In horses it can be caused by osteo arthritis or by inflammation of the tissues that enclose the joint and these in turn can be caused by poor conformation, overwork, working too young etc. but that's not to say that's the problem in your dog.
  2. Looks a fine animal. Bet you'll miss him.
  3. Looks a bit like what would be called a spavin on a horse.
  4. In Ireland a lot of people get their water from wells so it's not a red herring. If I remember rightly, few years ago someone high up in the deer society was prosecuted for dumping carcasses in a drainage ditch. Now almost all those deer have had the meat removed, except for a couple that may have been rejected for having fluked livers or something similar. Certainly the one at the front with meat on it has had the feet and head removed which suggests that someone started processing it then stopped after gutting it ???? I hate wholesale slaughter like that but it does go on where the populat
  5. Irish hares may be related to mountain hares but on farmland they run pretty much the same as brown hares do. Even on mountain terrain I'd say Irish hares run better than mountain whites. Just my opinion but I've run a variety of ground and all three species.
  6. I ain't got a passport so will never get to see em haha..take a pic for me lol Fly to Ireland Fuji, you don't need a passport. I use my driving license as ID.
  7. My youngest son has a wheaton/airdale/greyhound. She watches TV and growls and barks at some dogs on TV. She's a bit racist and dislikes border collies and labradors.
  8. It makes sense to me and most cats do that. I just wish they wouldn't do it in my allotment.
  9. I like them a lot. I reckon one of them would pair up nicely with me deerhound cross bitch over the rough country. Wish I had room for one.
  10. When you say"busy" I'm guessing she hunts up well.
  11. nice but how much deerhound in them.dog is1/2 deerhound 1/4 bull 1/4 grey and the bitch is same put back to a bull The dog looks a belter and now I remember seeing that pic before. I'm surprised he threw smooth coated though. Was he bred deerhound to bull/grey or deer/grey to deer/bull?
  12. 2 deer/bull/grey sound good.any pictures? I'd be interested to see em too. Did they come leggy or heavy?
  13. Why a plummer rather than any other terrier Gaz? Just curious.
  14. Is it definitely an infection that's stopping it healing?? Because while peroxide will kill some types of germs it will actually slow down the healing process. Like Mik, I'd say save the peroxide for punctures and bites, diagnose the problem (or if you can't then get it diagnosed by someone else) and treat it accordingly, possibly with appropriate antibiotics if it is infection. Lads on here often have good advice but they can't diagnose a dog without seeing it. Good luck with it anyway.
  15. As you say Artic, there's no doubt it's been done but with all four stages, 1)hunt up 2) run down and catch 3) pull and 4) kill or hold 'til help arrives. I remain to be convinced that any dog even does three of them "regularly" or ever has (with the accent on regularly which can have different meanings to different folk. Still, what does it matter, that's only my opinion and I don't care much whether anyone agrees or not.
  16. Sound... if everyone was prepared to be honest, both with themselves and others, the standard of lurchers would stratospheric. Sadly that won't be happening anytime soon.
  17. Why would you want to do that mate? he is hardly stealing the crown jewels at £100 a pup. How many people do think really know the breeding of there pup??? Half the KC papered dogs are made up. Why would you believe anybody when they give you breeding. Usually you are told what you want to believe. The only way to know is breed it yourself. This lad is probably just a bit desperate to get rid. Have a bit of compassion, you dont need to whip up an angry mob. I see what you're saying but it's not about the money. To my mind it's about someone wasting a year of their life on a lie, but fair
