the teckel was bred out of hounds( dachs bracke etc) and is a hound( although dandy diamand was bred into the wire haired strain). teh teckel is what you make of it, you want a trailing dog he is pefect( not for hot pursuit obviously) you want a fox dog and thats what he is bred for. good bushing dog and good for driving deer and boar. will retrieve smaller game. with the right training he is jack of all trades and master of all ( he wont point ) an all rounder,as with any breed you have specialists( bavarian mountain hounds, pointers, retrievers) who will perform a number of tasks in

you may find that brittish air ways will transport the rifle but not ammo. they had a big thing about this a few years ago. check with the airline and customs mate. atb

using a .243 sound moderator for .22-250
waidmann replied to JackWard's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
that may be true, but does the 22.250 not produce more pressure? check with the gun smith bud, better safe than barrel split with all of the implications. ggod luck a .22 is larger than a .177cf but the mod would not be suitable or proofed. other way around is ok( standard mod bore for both) -
yep spit doesit and regular handling, mine was a bitch to start with but is sound now( i rather flick the nose than slap!) as someone said with regards to dogs, mine are mad to play with the pup, he gets a bit pissed when they bite him and squeaks but it hasn't put him off at all. like a mad house when they get going! stealing of toys, hiding under sofas to attack the next moving thing........... great fun. how old is the terrier bud? has he been ratting? or just a game dog. if he has a strong head it may take some work. try getting an indoor cage so he can see one all the time, day and nig

have the scope checked mate. had the same on a 3006 rifle. great when they shoot but annoying when they don't. as advised check all screws, but my money is on the optics. good luck

the doc says all is well. and so the police must have good reason to revoke your certificate,as neither a risk to yourself or others they should have no grounds to do so. if no medication ( physco pharmica) are being taken( are you allowed to drive? etc) then i see no reason to inform them if any change in your circumstances( it matters to the firearms officer not if you have a bad back/flu so why would he want to know about this?) i understand your concern, but as most of the chaps say you should be ok. it may be worth checking with a basc soliciter just to be on the safe side.it should not

on the continent the boar are driven with packs of terriers( jagd, fox, russels) which are alot less likely to be torn up in thick cover( which pigs will take upon being rumbled) as they are quicker and lighter. in the olden days they used packers( normally big dogs with a dash of blood hound) which did as a rule not get old. a saying in german is " if you want the pigs head,be prepared to lose dogs heads" i have spent a fair few years with packs in germany and we have lost a few dogs( the more the pigs get worked the more likley to take the dog on rather than run on). it is not pretty. gutt

if the scope mists up then the seal has gone( if filled with gas it has escaped) and the scope is effectivley useless) when in temperature differences the scope will do the same( mist up) and of course in the rain. any decent make will swap it straight away( if not been tamperd with of course) as mentioned in a previous post. zeiss, swarowski, docter, etc etc good luck getting it swapped mate. p.s. what make is it if i may ask?

the only problem i had was with the cutting of the chequering. so i left it as it was and sanded down the rest of the wood.ironed out any deep dents and applied stock oil( with a red tint) with a soft cloth every day rubbing untill dry. after about half a bottle the shaft looked great. i then polished the side plates with a dremel( polishing bit) and some metal polish and the gun was in real good shape. a little time and the gun will look good mate. atb

they were discussing a ban on all lead ammo in germany apparently carrion being taken by large raptors( sea eagle/osprey etc etc) are containing lead splinters.forestry in brandenburg has it in place. a water fowl lead ban is in place. the general opinion over there is that anything other than lead is no good( not as good balisticly) i believe that scandinavien countries have the ban already. the spineless government will follow the lead of the eu no doubt, and probably put a tax on it too. happy shooting fellas.

need help on my beagle
waidmann replied to anthonytomo's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
yes mate. pason russel. your dad is a similar opinion as i said in the fist reply " beagle is a wide hunting breed". keep trying, the dog should learn. it wont be easy but take your time and keep at it. if you dont want him to bugger off keep him on the lead. atb -
i have been on shoots in germany where both gsp/gwp/and mvisla have worked on pheasant and ground game, good dogs. we also did aloy of rough shooting ( mostly next day) where the same dogs would work "short" to 2 or 3 guns. imo if the dog knows even in bigger drives that he works for you and not the whole line it will work in both situations. just an opinion. i like the hungarian wirehaired too, atb bud.

not sure what type of dog you have mate but i would only advise you to make it so that the draft can't get to him. hard to explain, if the door opening is on the right hand side, leave enough space for him to get in and block off 3/4 from right to left with a cieling high board ( quasi a zig zag entrance) this will reduce air movment/draft and enable him to raise the air temp in the hut. a bit of straw/other bedding and he will be insulated from the bottom too. is it just one dog? in winter another will keep him warmer ( i use this excuse as often as possible, will be moving soon so don

i find the hare is ground game, when on beats in germany he is just as likely to be shot as a pheasant, rabbit or fox. an saying is use them or lose them. hare are as prone to disease if they become too dense( tularimie, rhd, cocidien etc etc) and should be MANAGED as with deer and all other species we are lucky enough to have, not eradicated( if you overshoot hare they will take a few years to recover). that hare cause damage has never been my experiance( although i have never seen them in the density reported in some posts).at most fruit trees in winter, which i have always worked out by cu

other than that how much more ORGANIC can you get than having lived a healthy life outdoors( without anti biotics etc) than a rabbit? good food rich in omega 3 for nothing( the cost of a pellet/round) and to top it all its killed stress free in a humane manner. i have worked in slaughter houses and i know which way i would prefer. herded, strange place, smell of blood, squeals of the dying OR minding my own buisness munching someones crop and the last thing that goes through your mind is.....around 5.5 mm of "what the f*** was that!!" other than that i enjoy the sport. keep it up lads,ba

think i must have had a young one too, slow roasted covered with tin foil.the last 20 min without foil for some better colour. loved it.( potatoes roasted with it in the fat gives more moisture to the goose, carrots underneath so not boiling in the fat) and big buggers too.

i bring back the rabbit gutted and leave them in the cooler overnight( untill i get home from work) to allow rigamortise to end. then skin and freeze them.unless i cook them first( curry, stew, roasted) hanging allows the ph level in the meat to neutralise and this takes around 24 hrs( stiffness starts to weaken as with viagra so i'm told ) the personal preferance will prevail. one man says its hung well the other says its rotten!! ps. if the rabbit smells after a short time( as in other posts) are you removing the scent glands at the base of the tail/arse hind legs? or is this due t

need help on my beagle
waidmann replied to anthonytomo's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
if he can train a terrier he can give you some advice over breakfast or something, be nice, paint the fence or wash up bud all the best. get a grip of the dog as soon as you can mate( i can imagine it being very frustrating) -
i always use 185 grain on boar. 30'06. you want as much energy to stay in the pig as poss ( soft head, deformation) if going with dogs then try to get one with minimal splintering ( winchester silvertip,at short range a good choice). do not use the failsafe from winchester imo. if not used to leading with a rifle and are going through with the dogs some of mymates prefer to use a s shotgun( solid shot) beware of richochet!!!!!!!!!! hit em hard. stop em dead.

hi, the 308 does the job. i've always used 30.06 spr. the advantage of 308 and 3006 is the choice of bullet available. for the serious boar hunter the 9.3 calibers are very good as is the 8x57 mauser. as mentioned in another post you got to hit them in the right place( don't try to head shoot pigs!!!) as a blood trailer i have followed a few up,and the boiler house is the place to go( remember the heart sits deeper in a pig than you think) good shooting lads/lasses

if you speak german i can help you out on this bud. it costs around 30 euro a week and 30 euro a dayfor the flat( bargain) no limit on pigs, trophy free of charge. its in rheinland pfalz( german licence needed). there are loads of paid driven days all over germany with the forestry commission( between 50 and 150 euro a day) here you will pay for the trophy and be fined if you shoot the wrong pig( too big/female/ etc) i can only reccomend the pfalz. good people good sport good beer and schnapps pm me if you or anyone else would like the number

ideally a sow will be at a weight for breeding aroun dec/jan time( expected weight 40-50 kilo. though the season is controlled by the leading sow ( most experinced sow,not necessarilly the bigest or oldest) the problem being that un experianced shooters may kill the lead sow resulting in others of the group coming into season when they like, causing piglet to be born at anytime. in the german forestry comission you pay an enormous ammount for shooting a sow over 40 kilo on driven shoots.in alot the limit is 40 kilo overall and bigger pigs are shot from high seats( individual hunting or guided
