there are different height/weight limits for the three types kanninchen( rabbit teckel)/ zwerg( dwarf)/standard i know the standard goes to 9 kilo or something( traditionaly the fox/badger dogs) at a guess i would say that the dwarf would be from 4 to 6 kilo and the rabbit is anything below. check the teckel society ( some of the rabbit are tiny and you can use them like a big hob ferret that barks! well you know how i mean)

old fashioned methods are no longer acceptable.we want our dogs to work with and not for us? dominant behaviour needs to be nipped in the bud at an early age( not always possible i know). but general discipline and consequence need to be installed and upheld ( the down command is a good test and tool i find) no doubt they can be annoying,so can kids( now thats a case for the stick ) i don't know whether uwe heiss has any english books out,if so try to get a copy.he is shit hot as far as dog training goes. good luck with the dogs bud.

show the dog that you are the gaffer and that if anyone is going to fight ist you. making the dog submit as suggested should do the trick. an electric collar is mostly not much good and may make the dog start an all out attack( once aggression is up the reaction to pain is not predictable). as a training aid ok.but not as punishment lads. atb with the dog.

need help on my beagle
waidmann replied to anthonytomo's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
restart with recall training mate. beagle being bred as wide hunting dogs its the nature of the beast. get a long rope/lead and a pocket full of treats.( aren't they normally greedy?) i don't think it will be easy with a three year old dog but possible. persevere. if you have an experianced dog man near you,ask for some help( you never know). try to keep it positive, dont lose your cool with him( the dog). all the best and good luck. -
the teckel will trail anything from fox to deer and wild boar, the responsible handler will decide at the beginning if his dog is capable( the only factor that makes a trail unfeasable for a teckel is highly mobile quarry, leg shot etc) if a chase is expected you should take a lurcher too they will follow live/cold trail on the long leash( if blood trail trained) with an astounding ignorance of crossing trails( if you know your dog you will see). the smaller teckel will work to earth and are mobile enough to counter their lack of body weight. cracking dogs. the reason i asked abo

would you buy a second hand rifle?

i have had hakko hunter 7x50 scope. check its tight and not got vaseline on the threads( check it by putting it in the freezer and then at room temp if it mists up get rid of it. a real pain unlees you only want it for dry weather without temp differences. shouldn't be a problem but best off checking before you take it out in the rain.( easy if the scope has twist in mounts). other than this the scope i had was ok and i used it for a couple of years on my 30.06 spr.shot like the devil. -
on the line of knowing no better: they did a survey in berlin, big city/city kids from 5 to 15. multiple choice questions, a, what colour are ducks most chosen answear.......... yellow( mosyly depicted as chicks) b,what colour are cows.............................................purple and white( milka chocolate) the only thing they knew about were wild boar, habitat of course.........town parks and allotments a sad state to be in,most kids know more about lions/elephant than the sparrow or rabbit. these are the future tree huggers.who know naff all about what goes on but

it is a problem we have to live with( i blame f***ing bambi/watership down). the problem being that these people have no/very little knowledge of how important the "job" is that we do. not only do we reduce problem causing vermin reducing the ammount of livestock a farmer can hold on his land( four rabbits eating as much as one sheep apparantly) but also keeping the wildlife healthy mixy, tularamie, rhd, fox worm (echinocochen) etc etc along with this protecting endangered species of ground nesters, looking after hedges, keeping the countyside as it should be,IN BALANCE!!!! as long as crows a f

hi as i have my ferrets in the house i sometimes hear them cough. is this possibly a crumb of dry food down the wrong hole? i have a jill and her daughter from this year( she also coughs every now and again). a bit concerned it could be lungworm or something equally nasty. any tips? its usually a few coughs at a time. cheers
-
real sad mate. someone can't be bothered to keep ferrets all year and so steals them as the season starts. good luck getting them back bud. wont bother saying what should be done with the thieves.
-
sadly yes, both in our shoot and on permission i have are mixy. may do my young dog some quick learning but tragic all the same. hope there are some left for ferreting and lamping. atb all.

Sound Moderators, are they really required?
waidmann replied to andyf's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
having been abroad for a long time where you do not get mods they are new to me. i think on rimfire rifles for close rabbits they are very good. on bigger guns you will not cause so much disruption to the area you are shooting in( next fields, housing, walkers, horse riders etc). not to underestimate the benifits on the lugs.reduced recoil. and so on. i think the pro outweighs the contra( is there a contra? balance etc) we are lucky to be able to use them in this country. so yes they are usefull tools.not essential. atb -
nice one mate. are those white spots in the pic or just wet?

hi just wondering if anyone breeds beddys in the midlands or north wales? i and the mrs like the breed and i am thinking of getting one next season.just after some info,do my homework and decide whether this is a breed for me? or to stick with russels. cheers for reading.

go for a dog from working stock. what do you want the dog for mate? digging? bushing? if you look in the for sale section you can get an idea of prices and location of breeders etc. atb

yes that is exactly what i'm saying. as for sticking to teckel,i shall stick to a responsible breeder of whichever breed i need to work( lab/springer/terrier/lurcher). i think that performance is very important, but other criteria MUST be met, least of all that both dog and bitch are healthy. whether or no they are the perfect size, coat or colour( these being factors that may or may not be important to the buyer.but are visible to him/her from the first viewing). but to overlook a MAJOR health problem which is/could be heredetry is insane and irresponsible to the breed and possible buyer of t

at least good sense prevails with us two compo seems a dog man with a bit of common and a HEALTHY view of breeding direction/selection.
-
i'm afraid the point is getting lost. some seem to think that peformance should come first. a working dog should be bred from( irrespective of health and form/standard) if that be the case why have a standard for a BREED of dog? becaus if we did not we would have no specific breed at all would we? we would have working dogs with misformed skeletal build up(including teeth), long tails, etc etc but they would fit in a set and work like the devil for a couple of years (untill heart problems, hip displacia, eye disorders, hereditry deafness etc took their toll and he died of natural causes)

need helf on how to>>>>

does the bitch tend to pee alot anyway? or just in her bedding? could it be that she knows( as she should at this age) that the carpet is a no no and so goes on a more absorbant surface? if she pees alot anyway she could have a bladder problem ( difficult to say what alot is really). funny colour/smell? just a thought as no one seems to have considered a physical cause for the problem a yet. have any pesticides been used on her bedding? strong smell to which she may prefer her own urine? change of bedding ( if you leave her with the peed on bedding does she still do it? any compe -
dogs and humans have different systems (biologicly) a drug which causes swelling to go down on your mother may work,or cause kidney failure/heart attack/stroke or damage the digestive organs. in short NO. i would go to the vets and get him to take a look. if you take the packaging with you he can see whats in it and say yay or nay( more than likely nay as the stuff he will give you will be for dogs). some medicines used on animals are the same as those for humans, different dosage but the same stuff.if you are not sure then ask a vet. costs alot sometimes but the little treasures are wort
