Plummer Cross Bedlington Terrier
neil cooney replied to low plains drifter's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Something I always found strange was the fact that Mr Newcombe was anti badger digging but kept and bred what was possibly the biggest breed of working terrier, excluding the strong dogs. So was he a genuine bona fide digger of foxes ? Not speaking ill of the dead here but it's something I always wondered. Also, wasn't Tommy Dobson better known for keeping Bedlington / Fell crosses rather than Bedlingtons. Didn't he put a chocolate Bedlington into his own line of Fells ? -
Empty your inbox Peter.

Yes, I forgot about him but it's a bit far from Dublin maybe. I'll send that onto you Peter.

Any idea what line of Deerhound Andy Barons were Lurchers ?
-
Probably one of those freak things so. If it's a clean break it might help a bit.

The VHD is IMO worse than the myxy. At least with myxy some of them recovered from it and when it's rampant the foxes and buzzards get fat and leave everything else alone. With VHD the only thing that seems to get fat are the bluebottles you see going in and out of the burrows.

It's getting harder and harder to get flesh or tripe Peter. I know of one lad from the North who sells beef mince and tripe and he comes down once a week and delivers all over the South but he comes down on different days and you might have to meet him on the road. P.M. if you want his number.

In a brass band the musicians blow trumpets. Muslims blow themselves up and Gays only blow.........................you get my meaning, LOL.

Seen a few Swifts 2 or 3 days ago and the Martins were a bit late too. Haven't heard a Cuckoo yet though.
-
Possibly. They usually move up the coast but where I fish for them on the Louth coast there's a lot of seals and the boats are often catching them a month before the anglers are.A couple of friends always tell me that from the trawlers a mile out they just see a line of seals keeping everything away. Thanks for that Neil, do you use spinner or worm, or both? For mackerel I always use feathers and instead of a weight at the bottom I use a heavy Koster or German Spratt as you might pick up another mackerel or even a bass. When I hear that the trawlers have had a few mackerel a mile or tw

What lines were Andy Barons Deershounds ? There was an article or two in ED / RD on him and he advertised a few too. A friend had a 3/4 Deerhound ,1/4 Greyhound of him.

Mc Intyre Wheaten Terriers
neil cooney replied to THE GENERAL's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Sorry to hear that. Some of the nicest wheatens I've ever seen were of their breeding belonging to an old man in Drogheda. At least they have family members still carrying on working dogs. R.I.P. -
Not digging you out mate just curious to know what you mean by that comment......" politically correct contests " ?.......havent heard that before, how do you mean ? I hear ya Gnasher, I'm probably the first person to use the PC thing with boxing, LOL.When I did follow boxing you'd never see a ref stop a fight because a fighter was taking it hard but the whole McClelland, Watson thing knocked that on the head and maybe that was for the right. But back in those days I used to watch and read just about anything that was related to boxing. They reckoned in his day Ali would hang on the ropes a

I've a 70 litre bag I normally put all stuff in if I'm walking not on quad, can put 4 spades ,little pinch bar, bag of nets , and ur bait all you have in ur hands are gun and leaders That sounds like what I saw, although I wouldn't know what a 70 liter bag looks like. Is it bigger than a golf club bag ?

I have a couple of larsens on a couple of lambing fields at the moment. They're for Grey Crows which are more or less the same as your Carrion Crow (ye call them crows whereas here in Ireland we call the Rook the Crow) that have been taking the eyes out of lambs. A larsen at either end of the field with an intrusive call bird in it will account for the culprits quickly. I took 24 Grey Crows in 15 or 16 days with just one trap this year.

I have an old print on my wall of the contest between Dutch Sam and Medley fought in 1810 near Hampton. The purse was 200 Guineas ,the crowd was reputed to be 10,000 and it went 40 rounds in favour of Sam. I used to be a big boxing fan but nowadays I'd rather read about the Golden Era than the politically correct contests of today.

It's a good idea, no doubt. Dug with a chap last year who had a large bag that carried his tools, first aid , lunch and even a spare coat thrown in and it was handy.
-
Agreed, fresh mackerel is up there with the finest. Kills me when I see lads only catching them for bait.
-
Oh, OK, I know you boys over there love your attractors. Something I often thought about using for trapping.
-
I've been in that scenario for sure but it wasn't a rod I had in my hands, LOL.

The top pic says it all. The older one says when it's had enough and the youngster knows when it's over stepped the mark. It's good for them, dogs shouldn't be confined to solitary confinement. One of the hardest I ever seen would let pups swing out of it while he was eating with never a problem.
