  1. bonny thing.... hope she does you proud mate
  2. Its still just a twinkle in its sires eye lol but Il post its progress on arival, no worries!
  3. I guess it depends on what you want from your dog... your quite right though, the gwp and gsp do a great job, the lab crosses arent bred to compete with the pures, but to be a different working dog all together... for the grouse keeper/beater, the cross bred is the better dog for that line of work.
  4. why not just get a well bred gwp/dd, why bother with a cross bred which could for the most part be a lottery, contary to popular belief a gwp does not need calming down, ya just need to find good deer lines, stay clear of the trials bred shit as they have been bred to run. Of the GWP's ive seen, they like a lot of space to work, and rightly so, by using the wind they quarter wide, shame its a bit too wide for the beating lines here in the UK, and so many keepers have found that the lab crosses are far better dogs in the beating line than most pures, in fact every pure ive seen beating has
  5. nice clip, bloody efficient pest control too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m89lbzWODXE
  6. Its happens to me plenty, and I know why, its a head shot gone slightly wrong! Damaged the edge of the brain but not through the brain. The way you have made out, is that your shooting them in the head, right through the brain between the ears and its still on its legs doing circles, basically mate thats impossible, and putting it down to mixy is laughable!
  7. aggresion towards another smaller dog dont mean feck all as far as taking quarry goes.
  8. Id have no problems with cats if their owners were as sensible as Dawn B and kept them on their own property, (plus I doubt Dawns would be much threat to the local songbird population !!)... but as all keepers (and others who try to preserve game, or enhance wildlife on any land) will testify, cats can be predatory Vermin of the highest order! FACT!
  9. any dog bred for fox that jacks it in single handed, is a cull, no questions.
  10. I caught a water shrew once when I was a kid and it didnt bite me
  11. 96 grand in uk sterling... cheap init... and sounds like the air rifle would get some action too
  12. Just some thing about the dog i am struggling to get on with proberbly her lack of natrual running ability for the amount of runs shes had though shes still only a young dog.atb dell ah thats a shame, good luck with the future anyway.
  13. good luck kye, hope you knock him out...
  14. Id think hard about what quarry you want to be catching, then get the dog thats bred for the job(s) and dont restrict yourself to a certain breed.
  15. ... thats one game fookin pup mate, no time to waste get her lined! good luck for the season chez
  16. I use springs for feeding wheat to the pheasants. Red-legs tend to spill a lot out of the springs, so I prefer pans or other feeders for the parts... I dont like using pellets in the springs or pans, as it only takes a bit of wetness to get in and they get blocked, and its a pain in the arse to be constantly sorting them out.
  17. definately better having the variable option, very handy for wary critters. I had a variable striker, but often wished it was a blitz. With that bit more distance for the bigger fields/fells. Plus you will find the battery lasts longer as you can scan for eyes without having full beam on all the time.
  18. Hi Mate, the Kits are doing very well, growing well and nice to handle. The hob is a belter. Cant wait to get them to ground!

  19. I totally agree, i think the key is having your dogs fit before your first shoot day, i feed the night before as usual and nothing while hunting, if you are working them twice a week they should be fine, any more or they are looseing condition put them on 2 feeds a day on non hunting days. Mine hunt all year round so fittness has never been a problem. ATB Dave. I agree, fitness is the issue here, no dog needs a breakfast to put in a hard days work. My spaniel would have come out lamping after beating aswell if he had his own way! From the 12 august my dogs could be doing six day we
  20. Bad idea feeding before hard work in my opinion. Just feed the normal feed the night before and as long as your dogs fit, you will have no bother at all.
  21. Same here..... kielder forest- midnight- clear skies... feck all!
